  1. NBC has video footage of the collision coming on right now. Looks like the plane was in a climbing right turn at impact.
  2. In the virtual airline I fly with, there are a couple members who are real life simulator techs for the same major carrier we emulate. They sometimes allow some of us to travel there and fly the big simulators. For the most part all these guys have managed to set up and fly their respective approaches to an acceptable landing. Some of them are teens. There are other members I notice who have 400 or more hours on Vatsim and get on the board and ask: "whats a VOR radial?" We have 13 year olds who get on the board and whine when they mess up flying a perfect DME arc. We have 30 year olds who have been flying sims for years and auger in consistantly. So, would we all be successful landing a real world heavy jet, absolutely not. Would some of us be successful, absolutely.I guess my point is...the sim is what it is and can be very "realistic". Its us who are the wildcard. And in the end remember this:NEVER trade luck for skill!CraigG
  3. Brett,I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I just wanted to say thanks for your part on the Citation X. I can't stop flying it!CraigG
  4. I'll be waiting for the new Eaglesoft model, myself. I hope the FMC finds its way into the X also. (hint...hint)As for now theres a new freeware Citation X out, but on another site. No FMS but it incorporates the GPS nav data into a very convincing rendition of the Honeywell Primus 2000 glass. Plane flies like a dream. FSX only. Really whets my appetite for these updated Eaglesoft entries :( CraigG
  5. Mark,Look at your intended destination airport on th map. If you were to extend an imaginary line out from the runway which you are going to use, you will find it intersects some small triangles on the map. These intersections have 5 letter names like MAFFE or whatever. Find one thats on the transition list in the GPS that gives you best angle for your approach and highlight it with the cursor. Now highlight LOAD to enter that approach complete with your chosen transition. Now somewhere about 30 miles or so out from your destination, go to the GPS, highlight ACTIVATE and enter, and a magenta course line will appear from your present position to your chosen transition. Your now flying the approach. This is a very simplified explanation and does not take into consideration ATC or proper IFR rules, but it will help you work through using the GPS. Happy Flying!CraigG
  6. Thanks for guiding me to the update. That fixed the minimized issue and the "sim connect cannot find SP2" message. The map graphics are still not showing up. FYI, I'm using a Dell laptop with an Nvidia 8600 card. I've got the latest drivers (174.31) tweaked with nhancer. They are however about a year old. I think I'm pretty much stuck using these proprietary drivers. To answer your question, there is no dark blue in my ASA frame. The center portion is the same color as the examples in the documentation. The outer portion is my default display color (light blue) There is no dark blue border like in the documentation.CraigG
  7. Well, I just fired it up to take a look and now the whole ASA program is not visible. It goes to the simconnect cannot find SP2 screen, I click thru that, and then the program continues to load minimized. I started FSX to check and ASA is running . I cannot get it to display however. CraigG
  8. Hi, I'm a new user with ASA. Upon initial install, I was presented with the sim connect not found screen. I followed the instuctions and uninstalled acceleration and in its place installed SP2 from the fsinsider site. The sim connect screen persists. However, when I started FSX I found ASA to be functioning, with the exception of the map which is not rendering. If i pass my mouse cursor over the map area, it highlights station info, but no joy on the graphics. My computer skills are limited, but I can hack my way thru most situations with a little direction. CraigG
  9. I would have to say my favorites are the Milton Shupe trifecta: Beech D18, Howard 500, and the Spartan Executive. These oldies but goodies are on a different level from most freeware craft. My current favorite GA ride is the Justflight C-152 because it brings back memories. I just downloaded the new release Mitchell B-25 in RAF colors. Only flown it for about 5 minutes so far but seems like a real keeper.CraigG
  10. I don't know what kind of flying you do, but here's what I do for realistic airline routes. I go to here : http://flightaware.com/analysis/route.rvt and plug in my departure and arrival airports. This gives me a list of real world airline routes for my flight including SIDS and STARS and preferred cruise alts. I then take this info here: http://www.simroutes.com/ go to the "generate route" section and copy in the route I just found. I can now make a downloadable flightplan in the MSFS format of my choice. Hope this helps.CraigG
