  1. Very nice screenies, Mitch. I have to agree with you, Global, Vector, and Open LC NA, are the simmers dream combination. I made a successful jump through the unified lclookup hoops of Hades, and am now enjoying the work of art that has been created by the Orbx team. Shorelines, that look like shorelines, and not the lines of a kindergarten colouring book. Townships that resemble their real world counterparts. And highway lighting that puts P3D over the top. Heaven in a simmers world. Jazz
  2. Hints of P3Dx64 arriving sooner than later, have been dropped here on Avsim for the past couple of months. There's nothing new in that regard. As for x64 itself, we all know that x64 compatible content will be non-existent in the beginning, but, will arrive shortly after release. I expect Orbx, and FSDT, to be among the first that will release content for LM's P3Dx64. With the majority of developers joining in the fray soon after. After all, money talks. Jazz
  3. Since version 1.2, Vector has added several thousand, very accurately shaped lakes, streams, and other water bodies to Ontario/Quebec. It is these additional shorelines that cause many memory problems. Disabling the tertiary roads, small rivers/streams, shimmery bridges, and tunnels, etc, will help during a tubeliner flight. Also, disable orbx library objects, as they eat up a considerable amount of memory and are a major source of shimmering objects. Good luck, Jazz
  4. Hey Rob, Is this a subtle hint of P3D x64 on the near horizon, Rob? It's a rhetorical question. I don't expect you to give up any LM secrets. Just feel free to continue dropping the innuendoes. It gives us common folks something to dream about at night. ;o) Cheers, Craig
  5. I'm liking the longer draw distance for the night lighting. The overall look is much improved over the old orbx lights. Jazz
  6. Are you not using a download manager? You would be able to download all 4 parts simultaneously, and use 4 different servers to do it. Jazz
  7. I was having a similar issue. I decided to switch to a different server and re-download part 2. The second download finished in under 30 minutes. I think it wasthe CDN 1 server. On another note, has anyone checked out the new night lighting. In a word, Awesome! Jazz
  8. @kaosfere, It looks really good. In a couple more minutes, I'll be able to try it out for myself. Cheers, Jazz
  9. Thanks, kaosfere. 17Gb's isn't that bad. BTW, in your screen shots, are you using vector as well? Jazz
  10. Does anyone have an idea of how much hard drive space this installation will take up? Thanx in adv. Jazz
  11. I am able to reach the store front page, but accessing 'my account,' is unavailable atm. Fortunately, my current downloads are not being affected.
  12. Already in progress. Speeds aren't great, but my internet provider's speed is never great. At least I have all 4 parts being downloaded. Jazz
  13. I know, kingm56. My comment was meant to be a little bit sarcastic. Flight simmers, me included, are a very impatient lot. I do think that FSS can be given a little bit of a break. They are just a flight sim retailer, not the US Government. That being said, it's time to start dl'ing this thing. Cheers
  14. Orbx have tens of thousands of users. And every single one of us is trying to download that 10 Gb file at the same time. There isn't a server in the universe that can handle that much bandwidth. I think we can all afford to give the FSS and Orbx a little bit of leeway here. Jazz No, I am not an Orbx automaton.
  15. Deleted my original comment. It is quite sickening, to think of such things as being plausible. My sincerest apologies if it may have upset anyone. Jazz
  16. If he was suffering from depression, with suicidal tendencies, his thoughts were probably more inward thinking. His most compassionate thoughts to the passengers and crew, would be, turning off the bleed air during the climb, to put them to sleep. As cold as that sounds to us, it probably made perfect sense to him.
  17. Maybe he wanted to secure the insurance money for his family. Any evidence of him looking at an actual flight chart, or a path, out of his normal routine would raise suspicion during an investigation. So why not practice on the best simulator possible without drawing attention. Right now, all we know is that the plane has gone down, and suicide is only presumed. His family could still be eligible for any life insurance owing. As it stands, FSX is just a game, and alone, is not enough concrete evidence to prove anything sinister. Just my .02c, on a very intriguing discussion. Jazz
  18. According to their forum, with the release of FS Force v2.9; "All settings can now be programmed from the Profile Manager user interface. You no longer have to hand-edit the FSForce.cfg file." See here: http://www.fs-force.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=453 It is a bit pricey but worth it. I have been using it for a couple of months and it is working really well. I couldn't imagine flying without it now. Trimming an aircraft finally "feels" the way it should. And flying through turbulence, is a whole new ball game. FS Force 2.9, P3Dv3.35, the Majestic Q400, and the Iris Dragonfly VR = game, set, and match.
  19. That is correct. As an extra security step, block FTX central from internet access with your firewall. If you are not buying any of their latest sceneries, you will have no need to update their "orbx libraries". So you should be safe from the orbx unified lc update from this point forward.
  20. With DTG's new x64 flight sim just around the corner, the fsx user base is about to get a whole lot smaller. If LM finally decide to release a 64 bit version of P3D, it will shrink even further. This product will be hard pressed to find a significant user base willing to dump big dollars on an obsolete, 32 bit sim, such as FSX/SE. just my .02c
  21. Thanks, Mitch. I have copy and pasted your instructions as a reminder for when I do migrate this weekend. BTW, Your screen shots look amazing. The lighting in the last shot is phenomenal. Cheers, Jazz
  22. That's really good news, Mitch. I too, am waiting for the release of Openlc NA, to go with Openlc Alas/Can. This coming weekend, time permitting, I will give the migration a second chance. Fingers crossed that it will be as successful as yours. Regards, Jazz
  23. I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was forced to update to the unified lclookup which resulted in a huge drop in performance and blurry textures developing gradually after a few minutes of flying. After an uninstall of everything orbx, I re-ran the installers again, but this time I blocked ftx central from accessing the internet. Everything installed fine. Zero blurries, and excellent performance once again. Blocking ftx central with the firewall is the only way to avoid this forced update from orbx. As you pointed out, Sesquashtoo, unticking the "check for updates" boxes does absolutely squat. I am not ready to update to the unified lclookup file as I want more information on how this will affect the usage of other landclass/vector products. Not surprisingly, Orbx haven't exactly been forthcoming with information in this regard. Besides, there will be a new sim on the market in just a few months, and we'll have to spend, spend, spend, again. Jazz
  24. Not if you decide to stay with FSX/SE/P3Dv2/v3. With x64 simulators coming out, none of these sceneries or any other scenery, will work without the dev doing some re-development. You can pretty much guarantee that DTG's new sim will not be compatible with LM's P3D. The cash cow days of cross compatibility among flight sims is coming to an end. For better or worse. Just my .02c Jazz
