I was running a 12900k and a 3090. I wasn’t happy with performance on p3d and msfs with my 4k monitor so much I went and bought a 1440p monitor. One day I was at microcenter and just decided to buy a 13900k on a whim. I was blown away with the amount of frames improvement I got over the 12900k. I am using my 4k monitor again and getting 45-60 fps in both p3d and msfs. I was struggling 30-35 fps at 4k with the 12900k. I’m extremely happy with the 13900k.

Did you OC your 12900K? 13900K? I’m in a similar situation with my 12900K (5.2ghz) and wondering if I need to pull the trigger on the 13900k.

It really depends on your priorities... if you have flown the F1 or RXP GTN 750 in P3D or XP, the TDS version is the one to get.  It uses the actual Garmin code and behaves like the real unit.

The PMS version is closely tied to the Asobo flight planning system for better or worse..

if you have never used the GTN.. the free PMS50 version is OK while you figure out your options.

Thanks - that makes it easy, the TDS is the one for me. Appreciate it.

    Hello Simmers,

    Hope everyone are ok.

    I'm plannig a new build 90% for MSFS2020 connected to a 35 UW Monitor, LG35WN65C (3440x1440). Latter i don't know yet if i will change it for a 4K 50"Tv, but for now it's this.

I saw a lot of threads and some youtube videos and i reached 2 builds and now i need to understand pros and cons of eah one.

     Build 1:

    Intel i9 12900KF

    Corsar 4000D Airflow

    Corsair H115i Capellix

    Corsair RMx 1000w

    Corsair Vengeance Pro SL 4x16GB 300Mhz Cl18 DDR4

    Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite DDR4

    Gigabyte RTX 3080TI Gaming OC

    Seagate Barracuda 4TB

    Corsair ML140mm Pro (x2)

It's better to stay on DDR4 memories and save some money ou go to DDR5 (more expensive)?

    Build 2:

    AMD Ryzen 3800X3D

    Corsar 4000D Airflow

    Corsair H115i Capellix

    Corsair RMx 1000w

Corsair Vengeance Pro SL 4x16GB 300Mhz Cl18 DDR4 for AMD

MSI MEG B550 Unify-X (Used but with warranty from a store in my country)

    Gigabyte RTX 3080TI Gaming OC

    Seagate Barracuda 4TB

    Corsair ML140mm Pro (x2)

So 12900k ou 3800X3d? What do you think simmers?

NOTE: i have 1 ssd m.2 WD SN750 Nvme 1TB and 1 ssd m.2 Kingston A2000 512gb to install in the new build.

Thank you in advance for your opinions.

    Regards,

    Ricardo

For what it’s worth….Just bought a new PC a month ago

    i9 12900k

    EVGA 3080TI

    Lian Li 011 Case

    32GB DDR5 6000 hz

    1000w PS

    Lian Li SL120 fans

Never have seen below 50 FPS (locked) using that exact same monitor running 3440 x 1440. I also overclocked to 5.2GHz and temps between 40-60 when using MSFS.

    All the normal payoff aircraft/scenery.

  4. For what it’s worth, I’m getting 50+ FPS (locked) on the ground at JFK in the Fenix, running the cockpit displays on the integrated CPU graphics.

    2K (3440x1440) with Ultra/High settings. 150 LOD Terrain. 100 Objects. 100 Render Scale.

Now that graphics card prices are coming down, it made sense for me to invest in a new computer and what a great decision it has been so far.

  5. I never understand some people and their perspective. PMDG and other developers keep this small hobby of ours alive and thriving - without third party developers working hard to bring these new add ons to life, our little hobby is done. Complain all you want but my attitude is appreciative of their efforts to keep things moving forward. You don’t like them? Fine don’t buy it but don’t complain and insult people that are making a difference in this hobby? What the hell are you doing to help this hobby? Rant over.

  6. Hi all,

Can’t seem to figure out this puzzle - this happened in P3D but affecting any sim. Had some CTDs happen so I installed the latest Nvidia driver (and deleted P3D cfg). I always use full screen mode (P3D, Xplane, MSFS) and use 2k resolution in the sim (2560 x 1440) but after the update, now I get black boxes in full screen mode, which doesn’t take up the full screen.

Nothing else changed - monitor the same, display port, no windows update. The only difference is a new driver. If I switch to the 2k resolution (from the native 3440x1440)  in Nvidia control panel, I get the same non-full screen view with black boxes. Going into the settings to change aspect ratio, I can override it to “full screen” but then the image is stretched and it’s not crisp/proportional to the monitor.

I have a 1080TI with this monitor (https://www.lg.com/hk_en/monitor/lg-35wn65c-b) but can’t figure out why this changed all of sudden. Tried to roll back to previous drivers, three different ones in fact but still same issue.

appreciate it if anyone has any thoughts on this - thanks!

Well in the first place, I'm not claiming to know all the answers, nor even suggesting that what I suggested was going to lead to perfection, so nice straw man there; but if progress is your desire, you don't need to be a rocket surgeon to see that this approach they've taken is not going to lead to much of that.

Not claiming to know all the answers.....this approach they’ve taken is not going to lead to progress. Says you  🧐

I think if all of us took a glass half full approach we would be a lot more civil and helpful instead of always complaining.

That would only be true if the people demanding a beta test like this, were the same ones saying this was a cack idea. But that's not me. I never said a word about needing a beta test, I just commented here because as a quality control function, this is a cack-handed half @rsed way to go about testing stuff, and it most likely won't yield any useful benefits.

Above anything, if they were going to take this approach, they needed to pick a broad cross section of hardware users with different bandwidths and such; not go: 'roll up, roll up!' to the first three hundred people who were up and about at the time the gates opened. It's preposterous.

If I wanted three hundred people of varying ages to test read a book, I'd at least have the good sense to pick people who liked to read, of varying ages, not go for the first three hundred people who I saw in the street.

Oh man, if I had a dollar for every expert that knows all the answers....

    Progress, not perfection.

Well, I just did another flight and I'll still have to figure out some settings that I can work with, if those even exist. I never liked HDR, and never used it in V4.5 or before the hotfix came out. Too bad they now require it for trueSKY. As much as I like the latter, I may have to dispense with it after all, unless they make HDR optional again.

Go into your CFG file, find HDR=1 and change to HDR=0. HDR is now off, although Auto Exposure still will be on.

There's three (albeit major) components in which FS2020 easily beats X-Plane 11.

    -ATC

    -Scenery

    -Weather

In everything else I can think of right now (including flight model, controls, default planes, interface, performance), it can't hold a candle to X-Plane.

Even in my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine a real world pilot chosing FS over X-Plane for training.

    I’m a real world pilot and I chose FS over X-Plane. 🤯

  11. The simple matter is this, IMO, is going to be the future sim for all of us for years to come. No other simulator has come close to what MSFS offers when you look at the big picture. Of course there will be problems at launch and probably 6 months from now. Go buy it and make your own onion. We all use this simulator quite differently and no review will be perfect for how you use it.

It's $60 - about the cost of two payware airports. Go out and try it. Support the future of flight simulation as a hobby.
