  1. Hi, I asked this yesterday but I think it got lost in everyone's excitement.

My question was/still is ,could anyone advise or explain to me please, I fly mainly photoscenery UK, would I gain anything at all by using this new software?

    Thanks Phil

Tonywob did answer that question earlier on page 2, but to repeat: In X-plane, photoscenery includes a mesh in itself, which usually is just the default mesh that comes with xplane 10 unless otherwise stated (simheaven photoscenery have special versions of their scenery which use HD mesh v.1 by Andras). So no, you will not see HD mesh if you have installed photoscenery in that area, until that photoscenery is remade to use the HD mesh v.2.

  2. There shouldn't be any pop-up with clouds... Something wrong with your setup. Especially in demo mode, where you can only download one set of weather info and inject it into fsx. You press the start weather injection button and you see the green bar inside fsx telling FSGRW is injecting weather, please wait... and then saying it is completed.

After that its impossible that it could somehow change the already downloaded weather info since you downloaded a static weather file? With dynamic weather it might be possible that it just updated the weather and downloaded new set of files and injected it, but with static weather download sounds like an error on the user side.

I personally haven't had any problems with weather injection. Simple program with simple setup. Can't really go wrong.

  3. I also concur; the turbulence feels very real from what i've flown so far and the wind seems lot more accurate aswell (varying direction where its coming from and varying strenght, i recall with AS2012 wind being very... stable)

I haven't went back to AS2012 since getting the FSGRW demo!

  4. I like what I see with FSGRW... Except just now; flew around Helsinki with dynamic most current weather, looks appropriate otherwise but i see lightning in the distance! Checked the 24H thunder radar for finland; nothing in the proximity of Helsinki earlier today, or even forecasted. So something with FSGRW's weather reports was wrong... But i'll keep testing and observing the weather :P

  5. Tabs - I have seen that video before, which i was referencing with my post + my own experience based on the video..

1.0 might be realistic but it looks awful imho: I went the other direction and use a zoom of 0.4 (with =TRUE)!  ^_^ Yes, you get some sort of fish eye lense view but textures look sharp, you get extra peripheral vision and a greater sense of speed. 1.0 makes me feel claustrophobic. Obviously (and as usual) this is all very subjective.

Yeah, I also try to use 1.0 nowadays and do too with TrackIR, when looking around is easier with higher zoom. When just using hat switch i prefer to zoom out a bit, 0.7-0.8 which doesn't yet give fish eye (at least my eyes can't see  ). But yes like said 1.0 with =TRUE on a wideview monitor is closest to what your eyes would see in a cockpit... but sometimes that might not be most usable option, and IMO anything between 0.7-1.0 is okay for me.

  6. Possible fpm =/= usable fpm for a commercial flight. Without knowing too much about the subject, i can think of few reasons why 6000fpm climb wouldnt be ideal for passenger or cargo flights.

I haven't bought the ramzess and im not sure i would buy the pmdg either. Mostly cuz i dont fly too many long-hauls, but that might be possible with pmdg. But then again i like to aim for max realism and speeding time up isnt that. So ill stick with short-haul jets :)

  7. Wideviewaspect=false : zoom 0.40 is same as zoom 1.0 with true on, if i recall correctly. With True, 0.3 - 0.5 zoom is way too far out, resulting in fish-eye effect.

I personally use =TRUE always and zoom ranging from 0.7 to 1.0 depending what I fly and do I have TIR enabled.

  8. Don't think that will work because afaik you HAVE to download the weather data from their servers: you can't input it yourself. All the converting and rendering or whatever you call that from the weather data is done on the FSGRW servers: you only download a small file on your computer into FSGRW and that's it.

You mean you can't try out historical wx?  or what? Maybe I misworded it; I ment that in order to test some different conditions i would download historic weather, like from july and april. That is atleast listed as a feature for fsgrw, I hope it is also available for trial mode?

Well, actually now that I'm home i'm going to try it.  :P

Edit: Yes - Downloading historical WX and loading it into sim is easy and just couple button presses away... first impression is great!

  9. Read thru this topic... Fsgrw seems like a nice option indeed, so far i've sticked with AS since 6.5 but feel the need.to try something fresh... And XPX support in the future too! I haven't seen yet tho if xpx will be extra cost or free upgrade for FSX/P3D customers. Any info on that?

Already thought of some nice tests for the trial once i get home from work, windy and stormy weather lately here in Finland, and I was at Madeira on holiday early April for 2 weeks.. have DL some of the weather back then and try it out, granted I remember which days were raining/ gusting alot

  10. I unfortunately found out that after when after having installed the newest version of AoN the taxiways and apron in ENTC were covered with green grass. I have also FTXG but nowhere else has this happened.

    Petteri

Oh yeah, I have the same problem, with AoN 3.42 and 3.50... I can see some markings on the ground but taxiways disappeared, just grass everywhere.

edit: Silly me, read thru the posts too quick and didnt notice installing the photo set would apparently fix that. Still downloading it but installed the airports pack. (300 kt/s :( )

  11. How many "competitors" have tabs openly discussed and said publicly he flyes? It's no different, devs are simmers too, and interested in advances in the industry. Tabs made many comments regarding majestic's Dash-8, which is direct competition to their dash-8 which they announced long while ago, but I believe since then has been terminated due to Majestic beating them to it. (No need for 2 100% simulations of 1 aircraft, wasted resources better used developing other aircraft that have not been done before) Tabs even reported some bugs with the majestic dash. But i don't have any inside info or don't know if the dash-8 has officially been discarded

I do not see any problems with devs publicly talking about using other products... they too are simmers just like us.

  12. Tim

I believe that  the Majestic Q400 is the only FSX Turboprop aircraft that uses an external FDE  ( JSBsim )

However, I do not yet have it  .. waiting for the Pro Release,  so I cannot comment on how realistic it is, or it fidelity under failures   etc.

I'm not sure you are aware, but you can upgrade to Pro version when it comes available  by just paying the price difference then? So buy Pilot now and pay the price difference when Pro comes available (20€ or so, cant remember anymore)

Basically there isn't any reason to wait for the pro version. I'm gonna upgrade to pro too, once it comes available but already enjoy the pilot edition fully :P

  13. I just recently formatted my PC for couple purposes, mainly to clean out my sims for what i've decided now. Followed NickN's fsx bible (funny thing how people don't notice his caution that it's just to spice the guide up abit, for comic relief... So it wouldn't be too boring to read) and got my windows set up nicely now.

For sims i now got FSX set up with NGX, AXE and MJCQ400, UTX and some airport addons to fly around europe. FSX is reserved for airliners only.

Then XPX; I got my carenado aircraft, OSM data and photoscenery for europe... + truscenery airports. That's it

And so I have my sims set up for when I want to fly IFR, VFR or helicopters even.  :yahoo:

  14. Surely, everyone wants and would enjoy FSX with DX11 and 64-bit. It's what most of us are used to now and sticking with it is the most comfortable option for most.

But realistically, currently the future doesn't look so bright for that, and I've given hope for fsx. Surely it will do for now, with NGX and other airliners that can't be beat in xplane yet, but X-plane is already where we want fsx to be... 64-bit. X-plane has a lot higher chances to fix the little quirks in its software to make it more enjoyable and realistic (most recently irritating thing is the high-altitude earth orbit textures visibility range... Blurry mess that you can't change!) but those are lot easier to fix, and  devs are still working on it with their own sourcecode that they have developed from the ground-up. Same can't be said for FSX and its ancient code, that's locked away from flight sim enthusiasts to fix.

So... While I still fly FSX for the airliners i've already bought, I don't intend to support FSX any more and have my sights in X-plane; which has the brightest future of all current sims.
