  1. I suspect one of the reasons you are seeing a longer load time is the increased amount of memory that is being used. I bet if you compared the amount of RAM that P3Dv4 uses (skies the limit) upon finishing loading to the amount of RAM that P3Dv3 used ( which could never load more than 3.5GB), that would be where your difference lies. P3Dv4 is loading more into memory because it can (64-bit!) causing a longer load time, whereas P3Dv3 was ALWAYS limited to less than 3.5GB.
  2. To you gentlemen as well, thanks for all your hard work on these presets. I'll be checking out your v2.1 tonight after work.
  3. Looks like it isn't, here's Eaglesoft's Q&A for P3Dv4 compatibility: I cannot wait to see what they cook up for P3Dv4 though, they are one of my favorite third-party AC providers.
  4. Just the EaglesoftDG Piper Twin Commanche, which I don't know if it's compatible with P3Dv4 or not: http://www.eaglesoftdg.com/Layouts/ptc.htm It's a very dated VC but great simulation. I had a lot of fun with it in FSX when it was released.
  5. Hi all, I've been using joysticks since the early days of Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer (probably ran at 3 FPS on our old Apple IIGS... ) I've owned multiple CH, Thrustmaster (F-16 model), Logitech (remember the Wingman series?), MIcrosoft (FF2), and Saitek models over the years. Recently, my CH Fighterstick finally starting having finicky travel on the X-axis so I went shopping for a replacement. We truly are in a blessed time for flight simulation, with sticks from Thrustmaster, CH Products, Logitech, etc. available at all levels of pricing. I receive the X-Plane.org newsletter and was caught off guard by a joystick they were advertising, the VKB Gladiator, so I decided to check it out. I ended up purchasing the VKB Gladiator Pro Mk II and plan on getting the MCG Pro when it is released to replace the WW2 replica handle that it has right now. The VKB Gladiator Pro has metal gimbals for added life and accuracy, and has replaceable handles (albeit their options right now are limited to just the WW2 style until September...). They also have a Gunfighter model for those building cockpits where they want their base on the floor (akin to the Thrustmaster Warthog base without any buttons), with a long stick between the actual joystick handle and the base. They also have other products in the pipeline. I have to say I absolutely LOVE the feel of the Gladiator. The resistance is perfect (it comes with 2 other sets of springs to customize), and dead-on accurate, and has a slew of accessories like an adapter for the Thrustmaster Warthog joystick handle. If anyone is considering on getting a new joystick, I highly recommend checking out VKB, this is without a doubt the best joystick I have ever owned. https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product_cat=vkb-controllers
  6. They may be waiting to fix it for the 'redux' version of the 310R that Colin mentioned was coming soon, but then haven't heard anything more about it. If you haven't tried the Alabeo C310R, she's a great ride and pretty to boot.
  7. You have to set up the hat switch in Chaseplane. Go into Preferences -> Controls and there are settings for Pan Up/Down/Left/Right that you need to set.
  8. Unfortunately, the lights are still offset... Noticed this yesterday taking her for a spin in P3Dv4 with the new installation package.
  9. Even though it's a bit dated and the VC could maybe be considered "crude" compared to say, Carenado, JF's DC-3 package is perfect on price-point, performance and what you get. I wish they would update it for P3Dv4, but it's highly unlikely.
  10. Here's a good writeup on Technet on how to use Task Manager and Resource Monitor (it's written for Windows 7 and 8 but works the same way in 10): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_8/how-to-use-task-manager-and-resource-monitor-to/79d0e537-6c62-4fcc-866a-ab16c713727c
  11. Because that may be true of the Samsung SSD to WD Blue HDD, but for the price of one Samsung 256GB SSD, I can buy one Seagate 2TB Firecuda HDD... 256GB for $100 = $0.39 per GB 2000GB for $100 = $0.05 per GB For me, waiting twice as long (measured in seconds) for the scene to load, is worth the cost savings...
  12. Yes. In my opinion, it's not much of a sim. It feels like a mobile game put onto PC with better graphics and control options. But it's fun for what it is.
  13. The other thing to consider is what impact it could have on your SATA port availabilty. On my MSI Z97 Gaming 7, if I use the M2 slot it disables the Sata 7 and 8 ports, effectively trading two ports for one. I'm sure this differs from manufacturer to manufacturer and board to board, but wanted to mention it just in case your motherboard is like mine.
  14. Do you have Pan View in the sim set to the same control? e.g. Chaseplane pan X and Y and the sim (P3D) controls pan view both set to the same hat on your joystick.
  15. Same problem here. Went back to CP v2.5 but now it won't start because it cannot reach the CP servers... frustrating with this always connected @%*!.
  16. I've started running my locked at 32 FPS, seems to be more consistent for my system. I still stand by using unlocked in urban areas and locked in rural areas.
  17. Am I the only one who feels like they are using a toy while flying in AF2? Maybe it's the mobile-like menus, limited scenery, lack of "deep" aircraft, etc. etc. etc. currently available, but I just can't seem to get into it like I do MS or XP sims...
  18. Hey Leon, First, I've owned a lot of different graphics cards going back 20+ years to when they were first showing up for consumers. In my experience: Reference (Blower-type) Coolers: Run louder Run warmer (1 and 2 really go together here) Keep the inside of the PC cooler (exhausting the hot air instead of blowing it around inside the case) Are more reliable Are harder to keep clean Open Air Coolers: Run cooler and quiter (usually due to larger and greater quantity of fans) Keep the hot air inside the case and contribute to warmer environment inside the case Are less reliable Are easy to keep clean Based on all this, I typically use a high airflow case and the open air coolers because of their quieter, better performance and are much easier to clean due to their more open designs. That's just my preference.
  19. Wow, I forgot how toxic and unforgiving AVSIM's userbase can be... must be why I don't come here very often anymore. But seriously folks, we are in a great spot in flight simulation. So many options from so many different companies. It almost feels like the 90's again!
  20. Yes, they substitute for rudder pedals. As for the original question, I've owned a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, a regular CH Yoke and a CH Eclipse Yoke. My favorite of all was the CH Eclipse Yoke because of the following reasons: Fluid elevator movement (the Saitek has a detent in the center which makes it extremely difficult to use during landing) Lots of buttons Easily repairable/modifiable Rudder pedals on the yoke (for when I'm too lazy to dig out my actual pedals...) For me, #1 is the primary reason I prefer the CH yokes (either one really) over the Saitek yokes.
  21. I just took her out for a flight from Bremerton to Tacoma Narrows in P3Dv3 and all was well. Thanks again Steve and F1.
  22. I haven't used them, but there are a few reviews out there: https://www.google.com/search?q=thrustmaster+flight+pedals+review&rlz=1C1CHZL_enUS738US739&oq=thrustmaster+flight+pedals+review&aqs=chrome..69i57j0.9116j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 The guy in the following video doesn't seem that impressed because of the narrow pedals (more so than the CH) and it looks like the base seems to move quite a bit.
  23. Really generous of F1 to do this. I bought it back when it came out but had to abandon it with the move to P3D. Glad to see it's been updated, can't wait to try out the new installer tonight!
