  1. Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the reply. I am using the latest OpusFSI (bought earlier this morning).

Been through the Camera Editing window, and i have definitely assigned aircraft upon importing. Maybe this is down to not having a default camera. Seems ok now.

Also, its strange that OpusFSI doesnt recognise stick inputs for the PMDG 777, but seems to see them fine in the Q400. I can assign a keyboard shortcut for the cam in the 777, but the view doesnt move. Again, fine in the Q400.

Thanks again, i appreciate your help :)

  2. Hi guys,

Really at a loss here - I have created a few cameras in the Editor, and assigned aircraft types to them with the Assign Aircraft Types to the Camera button.

I then exited FSX and Opus, in order to create cams for a different plane.

With the idea of backing up in mind, i exported all these cams.

Thing is, Opus wont recognise the aircraft type when i load FSX - it always defaults to the Majestic Q400. I have gone through it all and i cant find why this is happening.

Also, after a reboot, Opus will no longer allow my to assign joystick buttons to cameras, even though nothing in FSX or FSUIPC is assigned. FSX sees my hardware fine.

Can anyone please help me out with this?

    Thanks for your help.

  3. 1. Yes, but change the drive letter to the original letter in Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk management. Right click the drive -> Change Letter and Path (something like that, im going from memory here!). You wil need to change the old drive's letter first though. Backup first, and go careful. Plan your strategy and understand what you are doing and why you are doing it before you do so! If you just copy your original FSX installation to a new drive with a different letter and expect everything to run happily, you could be in for a world of pain. I would do this:

        a. Copy the contents of D: (current) to E: (SSD)

        b. Change the drive letter of D: to any available letter so the letter 'D' is available for your new drive.

        c. Change E: to D:

    2. See #1 - unless the new drive signature trips a need for reactivation. You may want to deactivate your 777 in the FMC first and then reactivate - up to you.

    3. Might as well, it wont hurt.

    4. No FPS / VAS benefits if thats what you mean. Faster loading times would be the main reason to get an SSD. Might reduce stutters as FSX loads scenery as you fly along, but dont expect miracles other than loading times. I found a normal drive could keep up with the speed that heavies fly at, though.

  4. Hi guys,

Really loving this plane, and im enjoying flying patterns to get the hang of it before i take it to my virtual airline.

    Need some pointers if poss:

At what speed to i start dropping the flaps for landing?

Does the FMC provide an optimal cruise altitude? If not, how do i work this out?

What is the 'general' cruise speed for this bird?

Thanks for taking time in helping me out!

  5. Very, very handy indeed!

This is now part of my flight set up for the Q400.

    Thanks for your efforts.

@christian what you need to do is open FSUIPC -> Buttons + Switches tab and press the button you want (stick / throttle). To the right, you will see Select for FS Control. Tick that and you will see the script in the drop down. I wouldnt use the V button as that is already assigned in FSX to take a screenshot.

  6. Thanks for the reply, really helpful. I that case, if i fly over an addon airport, that will load also, even at FL390? FSX does not unload these airports, right?

I guess FTX England falls under the photoreal category in that case... Not sure about FTX Global, will see how that goes.

I have changed my REX 4 settings to DXT. Are 1024 reolutions the 'FSX standard', or should i drop those to 512?

Iv only had one or two OOMs with the 777, so this is more preventative rather than a cure - doing another long haul soon. Never heard of VAS until the mention of it in the documentation, so im streamlining things to what i need.

    Thanks again! :)

  7. Hi guys,

Can someone please clairfy how airport addons affect VAS usage?

Say im flying from EGLL to KORD in the PMDG 777. If i have an OMDB addon installed and checked in the Scenery options, will having OMDB activated increase VAS, even though its 6 hours away in the opposite direction? Or does FSX only load areas within a certain radius?

  8. Hi Guys,

Im looking for some help setting up various practice scenarios for landings. I would like to position the plane in the air (say, 45° to the runway at 3000ft about 10nm out, alt hold on, AT on, etc.), pause and then save the flight. That way, when i need to try the approach again, i can just reload the flight and soft-disconnect the AP and not have to set fuel, take off, position, etc. My question is, does the 777 / 737 NGX support saving midlfight? I know we need to load a default aircraft first (i have the aircreation glider spinning on the screen before i hit Fly Now anyway).

Maybe pausing the sim, saving FSX and saving a panel state?

    Thanks, and happy Christmas!

  9. Hi guys!

Hope you can help me out here - all of a sudden ( as in, its worked perfectly for ages), the Linda console shows an error " [E] Hook Error: can't find .37 in SIM1.dll " and in VISUALFX.dll.

If i close the console, its seems fine, but i dont know what this error could be:

  10. Since 1.13 was released, the Saitek Switch panel works a treat.

Thought i would try the autopilot panel , and that works as well! nice bonus!

Just wondering - the screen does not come one automatically - although the buttons work, the screen doesnt come on. Is there something that can be done?

Thanks, and apologies for asking if its been asked before.

Ignore that - the reason that the display is not working is because of Windows 8.1

  11. Niiiiiice!!!!

So, in a nutshell, LINDA will look to the addon assignment first, and if there is no assignment for the addon, it will go to the FSX Default?

Danny - how do you mean "set no other switch to gear in any of the third party modules". Does that mean that if i have the gear on FSX Default, i cant have one addon using a different assignment or that will stop all modules from using Default?

Linda is becoming seriously powerful now - especially if we can get the Saitek Multi autopilot panel going! :)

    Thanks for your help guys!

  12. Hi guys!

Just a quick question - Can i assign a control to replicate across all aircraft, rather than configure each type seperately?

For example, my Saitek Switch panel's gear control - can I set that once for all planes?

    Thanks!

  13. A registered FSIUPC gives so much more than just joystick mapping. Its one of those must-have addons, that to be honest, is pretty necessary given the configurations you can do with your controllers, and the ton of extra options that it has.

You make a fair point, though - God knows iv spent more than i should have over the years!

Thing is, iv bought a lot of addons that i never use, and probably never will, but FSUIPC is just essential.

  14. This is all you will need:

    http://forum.avsim.net/forum/424-linda/

I have the same Thrustmaster, and i have the NGX engines, APU, Fuel Cutoff levers, etc. mapped via this addon.

LINDA supports many addons - check it out, it'll change you simming experience! :)

"Are the cut off levers actually an FSX 'item' or are they purely a simulated element within the PMDG VC?"

No, they are a PMDG thing, LINDA 'exposes' those controls via LUA events.

The controls are already there available  - press the button / switch on your stick, select the NGX / 777 / [insert addon name here], press save and done - your control is mapped.

Cool thing is, you can get LINDA to fire an event when i switch is selected, and fire another one when it is released - Very useful to map the fuel cutoff switches!

  15. Nope, you're not likely to get LOC and GS capture, ie, autoland in a fighter. That said, some can tune in to these frequencies, such as the VRS F18. This helps with landing the plane normally (note the word normally - not automatically. In the real world, autolands are not used that often).

Fighters use what is knows as TACAN navigation - in FSX, these are VORs. Check out the Wiki on the VRS site - its explains pretty much everything on this topic, including one of the best tutorial flights i have ever followed.
