  1. Here is the picture they posted today:PMDG Beechcraft 1900C, Tamsworth YSTW, New South Wales, 11:53am: Gear up for another short hop
  2. Interestingly enough, PMDG posted a new picture on their Facebook page today of a B1900C flying out of YSTW (Australia).....completely unprompted... and unrelated to their NGX pictures...Could it be...???Or maybe a red herring to distract from the NGX...??
  3. Surely it has to be the Piper Aztec? One of the most requested Carenado aircraft in the other thread (What aircraft do you wish Carenado would make next..)...and no FSX models built ever!! **unless I'm wrong?**Here's hoping anyway
  4. Heya Shivers,As was mentioned, been too busy flying this bird to write a review! It is a fantastic aircraft to fly in FS. I fly the DA42 in real life, and this is so accurate!Speeds/power settings are spot on. It is great being able to apply RW procedures to a FS model and it works out the same.Even the sounds are realistically recorded and modelled. It was funny cos on the ES forums someone was asking about the engine shut down noise, but it is just like it is in real life.I don't have the Mindstar G1000 as I'm enjoying the ES one at the moment. I don't really think that extra $$ needs to be splashed on the G1000 when ES have done such a great job doing there model. I think the MIndstar may be more functional, and that's fine if you wana shell out more $$.The visual aspects of the DA42 are fantastic as well. Interior VC, again, everything modelled like the RW a/c. Exterior visual model is great too. I love autocoupling the APR mode onto an ILS and switching to the outside view and watching it slide down the glideslope - taking in the awesome job that the designers have done on the exterior modelling. It has the Mindstar KAP-140 autopilot which works like a charm now too.I've been waiting so, so, so long for a good DA42 for FSX and this one definitely cuts the cake for me!Small enough to do your VFR low terrain flying in, yet sophisticated eough with the G1000 to handle all aspects of IFR flight.Cruises (our SOP's) at a nice 140kt TAS (but can handle faster). Slow cruise 120kt - approach speed 105kt & Vref 75ktHope you get the opportunity to give this plane a whirl!I know that's what I'm going to be spending my time on over the next few months!
  5. For those of us holding out......how much holding out is required for the FSX version?I'm running low on reserves in this holding pattern... :(
  6. Anyone have any idea what website this will be available to purchase?Definitely getting me a copy of this baby! :(
  7. Did you find out about the QNH?I could never seem to activate my account on the ES forums under ctcav8r, so have re-registered as nzpilot. Was able to activate straight away under a different email address...Anyway, you mentioned about beta testing in a previous post... you can send to my gmail address via my ES forum account.I wonder if my hotmail account was blocking something?I sent you a PM about this as well on the ES forums site.Any more news/screenshots re: DA42 Twinstar?
  8. I may have already mentioned the Aztec, but I've recently been searching high and low for a good Piper Aztec...... nothing.Aztec seems to be a very popular choic so I hope Carenado make one...**fingers crossed**
  9. Nice! Cheers Ron - you guys are awesome with quick feedback! One last quick question... can you change the QNH to HPa?Always fun trying to do a conversion from "Hg - HPa in flight on top of doing airfield arrival checks! :( I think there's a way of changing it through the G1000...?(I know there are FSX settings for metric? but I don't think it changes the subscales in aircraft altimeters - just usually ATC units. I found this out through the other 2 DA42's I have - can't change to HPa)
  10. Cheers Ron! I sit my Instrument Rating on the Twinstar this Wednesday... fingers crossed... which is why I snapped up the Iris DA42 (unfortunately) to get some practise.Look forward to being able to provide you with some RW feedback. Absolutely. Our whole fleet of DA42's all use the Bendix/King AP as do most others. And as you mention the G1000 for the DA42 is custom designed - not a "one size fits all"Just a question after looking at your interior pics on the ES website, will your G1000 display DME distance and Bearing Pointer 1/2 options around the HSI?(Eaglesoft Screenshot)(Pic from DA42 G1000 I use)Comparing these 2 images - you can see in the 2nd pic the black solid shapes around the HSI with DME in top left and the 2 bearing pointer options bottom left and right (ILS on Nav1 and ADF on Nav2Only reason I ask is that all of your screenshots on ES don't show them...Look forward to taking the Beta for a flight! :(
  11. Bought the IRIS DA42 today... not really impressed at all to be honest...G1000 lacks sooo much. * No Bearing pointer options (PFD softkey not there)* Autopilot differs also as they are push buttons on the MFD* Where the autopilot 'usually' is, there is an ADF/DME control panel* Might just be me, but ADF bearing pointer doesn't seem to 'deselect' itself - i.e can't change it 'back' to NAV1/2 after an NDB has been selected.* Landing - doesn't seem to like low speed. Find it hard to bleed speed off in the flare - just keeps 'hovering' along the runway at low speed. Maybe that is just me lol :( But even with a VRef of 76kts - gets down to about 65-68ish and doesn't like to bleed the rest off... hmmmm :( * Not a big fan of rotary knobs that you have to mouse click - hold and drag. Hard to get settings without a lot of playing dragging left and right.Exterior model is very nice - as is VC. Very easy on FPS.But Eaglesoft model looks far superior from what I have seen from preview screenshots and feature list.Wish I hadn't rushed in with the ol' credit card so soon... Perosnally, would definitely wait for Eaglesoft. It's looking great Ron!!!!
  12. Yeah, GCTCH hit the nail on the head there.Sorry Jim, but I think I would know if I had a type rating on an a/c or not :( In NZ we need type ratings for each individual a/c we fly...We're a bit backward - downunder :( Would be good to just have an endorsement as you mention.Ron, I tried emailing you but I haven't heard back...
  13. Hi Ron,Another eaglery awaiting fan.I have a DA42 type rating and am doing my multi engine IFR training on the Twinstar.Loving it - a great piece of machinery to fly and very smooth handling!I tried to sign up to the Eaglesoft forums to track the progress of this product but haven't received an email back to activate my account.I'm almost certain I entered the correct email address (fingers crossed), the FAQ's say to contact the board administrator but I can't seem to find out how to do that either...As I say - your screenshots thus far of the DA42 look stunning! And I can't wait to fly it. I own another certain company's DA42 at the moment and it is a "dog"Does the job to help me with my IFR training, but sooooo, sooooo many differences from the real aircraft! As I hold a DA42 type rating, let me know if you would like a beta tester.
  14. So it sounds like I need to spend some dosh...Can anyone with a bit of nouse (and a good setup) give me some advice on the following upgrades:Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz - upgrade to Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (and overclock?)RAM 4.00GB - not sure about this... with amounts (size) and brands and speeds... What does Tri band mean? forums I've read say i7 processors need tri band memory...P5K SE Motherboard - upgrade to X58 Motherboard (what brand? Intel?)Windows 7 32 bit OS - change to W7 64 bitNVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (latest driver installed) - upgrade to GTX 260 216SP - again what brands? I thought NVidia made them lol (Amaze, Asus, BFG, EVGA, Galaxy, Gigabyte, MSI...????)400GB main Hard drive - maybe add an internal HD for FSX - Western Digital Velociraptor 16MB 300GBCooling... don't know what I have. but it seems to be controlled by SmartDoctor.. advice? and QUIET as poss!!!PSU... again not sure... ideas pleaseWD 1TB External Hard driveFunny thing is, sounds like a complete rebuild! *sigh* Will prob do step-by-step - processor first? Thanks for all the advice so far - people are pointing me int he right direction of good upgrades without spending too muchTHANKS HEAPS!!Phil
  15. Cheers for the good advice so far guys!A lot of things to try out here.I may have got confused as to why I installed W7 32bit... I thought I'd read on a website for something to check in System Properties and it told me 32bit.. but this was just probably Vista 32bit... will definitely try reinstalling W7 64bitRegarding another Hard Drive, the only things that are on my C: are system files and FSX (plus a few other niggly bits and pieces) would it be more worthwhile to partition C: as someone else mentioned? All other Program files are on Ext HD.Regarding GPU - happy to look at buying a newer graphics card... is it worth waiting til the new ones get released? Don't know much about them - just heard lots of people in these forums saying to wait til the new ones come out so either a) you can get top spec :( 2xx series prices will come down. Also, I'm a sucker for spending $$ where I don't need to, I want the BEST graphics card I can get - without getting something that my system can't handle or won't get full use out of. So what would people suggest if I take the advice of people on here and make changes mentioned eg W7 64bit, new HD/partition, OC to 3.2MHz, CPU cooler etc - what Graphics card would be best (probably sticking to the NVidia GEForce series)Thanks for the links Ryan, I will have a look at theses.Regarding staying out of major cities.... lucky I live in NZ!! :( :(
  16. Regarding fps, I used to get fps between 20-30... back in the good ol' days! :( I might experiment with sliders. I have been using the recommended settigns that come with my addon scenery.Windows 7 comes with a 64 bit installation disc... how hard is it to switch?I'm guessing a complete reinstall...? And what are issues/limitations regading this?My FSX is on my internal HDD - as I mentioned before, I deliberately did this to limit other program files clashing and taking up space. My Internal HDD is 400GB and is about 45% used.I had thought about partitioning... would that help drastically? My laptop used to be partitioned, but that was done for me.I might consider investing in a diff video card. I remember at the time when my computer was being built, the guy doing it said I'd need more power. Thanks for suggestions so far!! Any more ideas, links, suggestions... keep em' coming! :( Phil
  17. Same question as many more before me no doubt, different outcome I hope!I had the following computer assembled for me about 1.5 years ago:Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHzRAM 4.00GBWindows 7 32 bit OSNVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (latest driver installed)400GB main Hard driveWD 1TB External Hard driveRunning an FSX profile in NHancerASUS Smartdoctor fan/hyperdrive controlFSX AccelerationVarious Scenery addons (Mainly New Zealand/FTX Australia)Various addon Aircraft (Level D 767, PMDG J41, Carenado a/c.... etc etc etc)Anywho, I have the following problems ALL the time:* FSX takes about 5-8 minutes to load* FSX hangs in 'Free Flight' menu when I click on "change aircraft", "change location" (for about 1-2 minutes) and then again when I select an a/c / location* Getting frame rate of about max 10-12 fps* WORST of all is that it continually crashes saying there isn't enough virtual memory available* VC displays when cycling between diff views (say between outside views and then back inside) only a pale grey VC texture (no instruments etc) for about 30secs - 1minute then it goes back to normal.* Other 'visual' problems - black boxes where landing/taxi lights should be (again for about 30secs - 1min)Boxes at major aerodromes where lighting is (say PAPI) and textures take ages to load like VC problem above (everything 1 tone pale grey texture - 30sec-1min)Slow loading of scenery when I fly over it (blurries)I'm not saying this is an amazing setup (hardware), but I'm sure I shouldn't be having this many problems with FSX...I've tried tweak after tweak after tweak (can't even remember how many), reinstalled FSX (good to start with - then gets progresssively worse again), installed ALL program files (except Windows & FSX (and FSX related files)) on a seperate HD so as to keep disk space free.... I do have most settings turned up, but believe this system should be able to handle it..I'm new to AVSIM forum and have read so many good pieces of advice that I hope someone would be able to help me.Happy to provide any more info people might need.CheersPhil
  18. PA23 Piper AztecPA44 Piper SeminolePA31 Piper NavajoSee the trend... twin pistons...DA42 Diamond TwinstarLove your aircraft so far!!!Can't wait to see what will be next!
  19. In saying this it is an 'older' model...Would love to see it given a 'refit' by the guys at PMDG.Great plane!!Would like to see more interactiveness in the cockpit and higher definition panels etc...Or am I asking too much lol :(
  20. I've become quite the turboprop fan lately...* PMDG B1900D/C (update) - I'd love to see a complete "PMDG-all-the-bells-and-whistles" update for the B1900 D/C. Love this plane! Question? Is it more difficult to upgrade a current model, or start from scratch?... Would love to have a more interactive environment in the cockpit, and better definition panels. A popular download and a joy to fly! Would be nice to see it given a 2010 makeover!... Come on... you know you want to!!!! :( * ATR 72-500 - Probably my favourite a/c to fly. The Flight1 model was good but seems to have so many bugs in it (not the crawling type :( ). And again this was made in 2004 (FS9) and updated for FSX in 2007. Oh how far FS has come in 3 years!!! (Amazed at what I've seen for the 737 NGX so far... :( )* Dash 8 Q300 - seems to be on the cards already..?? maybe?? I'm sure I read somewhere that it was... Another very cool turboprop a/cI guess this would actually be my dreamlist for PMDG to do and probably in that order as well!!Keep up the great work and making FS magic to fly!
