Bill, I went to see a reputable addiction psychiatrist.  The problem was he was also a flight simmer and that's all we talked about.
Sue, I do the Windows 10 optimization periodically.  My last one (before the one I did after reading your post):
Data (D:)  Hard Disk Drive  2/10/18 7:10PM OK (0% fragmentation)
But I just did another one and no change in load times.
Doug, I miss the Orbx forum too.  But for me without the Pilot's Lounge it would be too sterile.  Where could I post my bird and wildlife pictures and tell jokes and stories?  All Orbx and no play makes Noel a dull boy.

I've been rethinking this all again Bill.
Why do I have Europe and Oceania installed when 99.99% of my flying is done in North America?  Because I have it is not a good enough answer.
I once flew around Alice Springs because I spent a few months there when I was in the Air Force.
I once flew from Queenstown to Christchurch In New Zealand.
And I circled the Island of Pago Pago the day it was released.
I've flown a few times in Norway because it is my ancestral homeland.  I've not flown anywhere else in Europe.
I fly almost exclusively in California, Idaho and Alaska.  I've installed them all except Norway because when the dozen or so Norwegian-Americans here in Roswell get together for dinner and celebrate Constitution Day in May I'll hear about some places to fly to.
Which, at the risk of sounding political here, brings me to the question our president asked when the Prime Minister of Norway visited the White House several weeks.  He asked, "Why don't more Norwegians emigrate to the United States?"  My question is why would they want to?

I'm a collector.  I want it all.  I want everything that's available installed in my FSX_se.  So much that it was taking 12 minutes for my flight simulator to come up when I clicked on the desktop icon.  My simulator bypasses the startup screen and I load a scenario that puts my Kodiak in a parking spot at my favorite GA airport (Gnoss Field KDVO) ready to get in and start her up.
I'd start the simulator and then load the breakfast dishes into the dish washer, make the beds, and vacuum the living room.  By then the simulator would almost be ready to start flying.
I had every Orbx scenery plus many addons and almost 100 aircraft loaded in the airplanes folder.
I wanted to cut that time in half so I uninstalled everything and started from scratch, loading one scenery or sets of scenery at a time and then checking how long it took to load.  I wanted to cut the loading time to 6 minutes or less.
I don't know how each item adds to the loading time so I started out  with just my Kodiak and the Orbx North American Region sceneries.  The load time was just 1:37.  Here's how it went as I loaded additional sceneries.
North American Regions starts out at 1:37
All Europe and Oceania Regions - 3:52
Pilot's FS Global 2010 mesh for North America only - 3:52
    FTX Global Base - 3:56
Open LC North America - 3:56
    Vector - 4:14
Adding all the global airports and sceneries for North America (Bar Harbor, Eagle County, Telluride, Monument Valley, North American Airport Pack, etc) - 4:46
I'm going to leave it that.  It gives me all the Orbx detail for North America plus the  European, and Oceania Regions.
In addition to the Orbx sceneries I also have Aerosoft's Fairbanks and Dutch Harbor as well as FSAddon's Tongass Fjords.
I have Neilson's world wide shipping ai and MyTraffic Professional.  I set the airline traffic to 25% which gives me plenty of airliners at the gates of KSFO and a reasonable framerate of 18-20 when landing at that airport.
I know little about how all this scenery works and was surprised that Global Base, Open LC, and the mesh added almost no time to startup.  But Vector added almost 20 seconds.  Then all those Global North American sceneries a whopping 32 more seconds.
All I need now is the discipline to stay where I am right now.  That's going to be the hard part.

Mr. Young, most of us appreciate your hard work and dedication. You have a thankless, ( for the most part ) job.
Don't let the minority wear you down.
     Thanks

If you were the Forums Admin here and you did what you suggested and someone who's not a Forums Admin came on the site and said, "I don't like this, I don't like that", etc., how would you feel?  We have over 220,000 members (of course not all active) and I can take some recommendations/suggestions that I may or may not consider but we cannot have everyone coming on board and telling us how to set up the site and run it and to fix this and to fix that.  It just does not work.  If you do not like AVSIM's structure, please visit another site.  I do not have time to respond to all of these hundreds of thousands (potentially) suggestions.  But, I will take a look at your suggestions and I may or may not make the suggestions.  I just think you are very upset over my curt comment.  It hit you the wrong way as you expected me to make major modifications or a major explanation on why not.  I have done that and this is an extension to all of my comments so far.  This is not an easy job.  I have personalities all over the world looking into my fishbowl and watching every move I make as a volunteer.  Sometimes I do good.  Sometimes not but I don't think there's anyone who can satisfy everyone.  If I made your changes, certainly, someone would arrive and tell me how bad it looks.  I agree with others, you can use the forum software to hide everything you do not want to see.  Just click on the blue boarders and click on the arrow on the right of the boarder to hide everything inside.  That will make your surfing here a bit faster but most members use the "unread content" feature and zip right to the forum and the topic/post.

If you find something sickening about this hobby then life must be very good for you. I can think of many real sickening things in this world but nothing in this forum or hobby come anywhere close to that.

It's not just planes, this is getting out of hand everywhere. My local grocery store had to put a sign at the entrance saying that legit service animals (guides for the blind etc) are welcome, but please don't bring emotional support animals into the store. People are abusing this "emotional support" stuff so they don't have to leave their pets at home.
There is a growing sense of entitlement for this kind of thing, and I don't know how it started. I vaguely remember when people were more respectful of others around them. Can we blame social media? Everyone gets to live in a closed bubble of like-minded people now, including fans of "emotional support" pets.
BTW, I'm not knocking any genuine help an animal gives to someone with autism or PTSD, but clearly this is being abused by many people now.

Haha, nice to see the various reactions. I didn't expect anything to happen really: I just noticed the popularity of the P3D forum and decided to have some fun here...

Read somewhere that the main issue with the hamster was that if it got loose, it could easily chew through the wiring of the plane.

Yes I don't get the flushing part either, if that animal was that important to her she wouldn't flush it. We kept hamsters as kids and they were treated equally and cared for just as anything else in the house. No way we would flush a hamster down a toilet.
Having them as support animal seems harmless too but I think these days you could probably pay a doctor for just about anything, you have to draw the line somewhere

It's the "flushing the hamster down the toilet" part that annoys me. What the hell??

It has got out of hand.  Yes service animals help for a lot of illnesses, there are cases where these can be psychological, should be properly registered by an approved body.  As it is the idiots who want to take their rattlesnake are making it bad for everyone.
There is no reason an emotional support animal could not be a hamspter, small easy to take with you and something for the vunerable to stroke when in need of support.  It looks as if this one could have been one of the rare genuine ones.

No worries mate. As Jim said Tom built this over a long period of time and Microsoft Flight Simulator has always been the anchor for Flight Sim for many of us. FSX Forum still has 789,414 posts, more posts than any others and will for a very long time to come. Consider it like the 747-400, many great years of service and she isn't ready to roll over just yet

    Change, here?
    Surely you jest.
The change is in the products, not in the way we think or organize ourselves!
    Shutter the thought!
Kindest regards, and carry on! :)

For all of the reasons above.  Is there something wrong with AVSIM?  You cannot find what you need?  Next month (or tomorrow) someone will say, time to put [Insert Forum Name Here] to [Insert Location Here].  I like suggestions for improving the site but this is not an improvement.  I'm not about ready to begin the slow destruction of the ever popular FSX and FSX-SE Forums.  Plus, moving the forums would require the approval of the CEO and the Board of Directors and I'm not going to spend a lot of time justifying a move below the P3D forums.  Not saying more as my comments will only be placed under a microscope over this weekend.  Tom Allensworth built this site and the forums, not me.  You will have to check with him if you want any changes made...

I'm with Matthew.  Keep it traditional.  The real world is changing too fast for me now...my penance for having lived too long.  AVSIM and Flightsim.com are the last bastions of normalcy that exist on the other side of my front door.

Successful Falcon 9 Heavy launch! There is now a Tesla roadster in space. Watching the simultaneous landings of the two boosters back at their respective pads at the Cape was a joy to behold. Shame the camera on the barge suffered a glitch.

When I am old and crazy I would like an Emotional Support and Mobility Horse to give me emotional support and ride me around everywhere. That way I won't need a mobility scooter either, just ride my horse.
I started Flight Sim when I was 12 therefore when I get to my seventies I will be crazy like a fox and will need a horse, and a western style saddle and dress up like the duke and shoot one liners at everyone...can't wait

These threads always make me laugh. I flew on Delta today and behind me in the 3 seats were (drumroll) a young woman, a woman with a baby and a woman with a puppy in an approved carrier under her seat.
The baby slept the whole way. The puppy did not make a sound. But the 3rd woman didn't stop talking and she had a loud voice like one of the rodents from Alvin and the Chipmunks. The rest of passengers were ready to kill her and resorted to wearing ear plugs and headphones.
    You just never know.
