  1. I think that if something didn't get installed properly, you would notice that something was wrong. Ok, I am home now and at my gaming rig and can help you with the refresh rate for the displays. I've noticed a difference with this one. Maybe you will get a frame increase too. In the NGX, pull up your CDU by either clicking on it in the VC or in the main menu (Views --> Instrument Panel --> CDU (left)) With the CDU open click on the button on the Right side for "PMDG Setup". Next Click "Options" on the left side. And then on "Performance" on the Left On the Performance Tuning you will see what's called "FPS Limit". This is where you can speed up or slow down your frame rate of the displays on your dash. I can't remember what the defaults were, but I have all those eight settings at "15", meaning 15fps. I didn't notice a difference in the way the displays behaved, but I noticed a difference in performance. To set it, just input 15 or what number you would like in the keypad at the bottom and then click the button beside the display you'd like to change. You can even disable the First Officers displays if you wish. But I find that a little more extreme. Give that a try and let me know how it works for you. I hope it helps you get a bit more out of your system. Good luck. ^_^
  2. I think so...Not positive though... Might want to Google that one. I think 21" and 23" widescreen monitors are 16:9, and 24" widescreen monitors are 16:10. I know that resolutions like 1024x768 and 1600x1200 for example are 4:3. Also a big tip here... Make sure that you backed up your FSX.cfg file at least twice(for good measure) before attempting to modify it. you'll shake your head with frustration if you made changes that totally screw up your flightsim and you can't remember what changes you made. Back it up if you haven't already. And I get the “skeleton airplane” thing too when flying online. I think it's just the massive amount of polygons that is trying to load at once is too much for the RAM to load. You have fast RAM, so I don't think you will see much of that. I use to get a lot of this when flying FSX with the PMDG 747X in Windows XP. Only having 4GB of RAM was a killer for me and I use to get the "Out of Memory" crashes. But many others had no issues like that. Maybe they had their CFG tweaked like you mentioned to have it run better. I will have to try those myself to see... Thanks
  3. LOL... Not sure about that one. I always install my stuff in it's own area to keep things organized. But I would of thought that it would of been the other way around. I thought that it would of been beneficial having it in the programs directory because this is where it would think of looking by default...lol. You got me with that one. I'd go with what you got and try not to install too much into it yet and give it a good test for a few days or so. What you can do it any software like FSCommander, REX, ActiveSky, PlanG, etc. Any software that you can install out of that Program Folder area, just try and install it somewhere else. I created a folder on my C: drive called "FSX_Addons". This way i have all my addons like the ones that don't requited to be installed within the FSX directory into one place for easy management. Little things like that you pick up on after reinsallying flightsim a thousand times on my PC over the years...lol One last thing. If you can remember (I have a hard time with this one), when you are installing anything. try to remember to Right-Click on the EXE and select "Run as Administrator". You some times get softwares that don't install everything if you don't do this. very rare, but for an extra click, you are certain.
  4. I never read the manuals. I fall asleep when I read...lol. Posting questions on the forumslike you did is the best way to go for getting feedback. Some things work and some don't. But you get to figure out some new things out along the way too. It's all good. Hope you get those frame rates up. ^_^ And if you don't have any payware scenery to test it with. Check for demos, there should be some available. Fiddle with your settings and you'll find a happy medium without having to overclock.
  5. Oh, also one thing that helped me quite a bit. Go into your NGX aircraft menu in the CDU or FMC (what ever it's called). Go to the settings for the refresh rate of the displays. Turn them down. Way down. I think I have mine set yo something like 50% for the captain and 25% for the first officer's displays. You won't notice a difference, but you should see a frame rate increase. I can't remember exactly how to get there in the CDU(I am not at my gaming PC at the moment), but it is in there somewhere. Give that a shot.
  6. If you can even keep yourself at 20+ frames per second, it's enough. You'll only see lag once you get maybe even below 15fps. And even if you have 8GB of 1600mhz RAM, GTX 570 and an i7 2700, it will still run at a low frame rate if you have everything up on max(Ultra). FSX is all about the CPU. Not how many cores you have but the speed of the core. Higher Mhz = higher fps. Video card, RAM and Hard Drive won't help much for your frame rate. And 3.5ghz is great, but watch for OC'ing your CPU that you don't fry it and void your warrantee. I did that once... Try this: - Turn the Water down to the mid 2X or High 2X. - Turn your Autogen down to Normal or Dense. - Get rid of Ground Shadows from scenery objects. - Git rid of Ai cars, boats, airport vehicles and set your Ai aircraft traffic to 25% or less. - Turn your cloud draw distance to the min(60 miles) and set cloud density down to medium. I betcha you just doubled your frame rate with those settings. And you won't notice much difference in your visual experience. I know, you are saying "I have a big new PC and I shouldn't have to". I said the same thing and just had to bite the bullet and drop it a little, not much, but a little. I always think of it this way. Am I getting in the NGX for the flying experience or for the visual experience? I'd prefer to have it run smooth and enjoy the plane for its technology. Rather than getting chop on landing and not have it controllable, but yet have it looking prettier outside. If you are taking screenshots, crank the settings up. If you are in the plane to fly, turn it down. And remember that you don't need more than 20fps, but if you can get a solid 30fps, then you're sitting pretty. Oh, watch out for flying in the ORBX areas. Beautiful scenery, but not so much fun with the NGX flying at 5fps... What I do is have a slew of different FSX setting and take screen shots of the settings. This way I have a reference to what the settings should before where I am flying. Sorry if it sounds like I am complaining. I am not, not by far. I just see where you are coming from with the frame rate and have to make compromises. Good luck, and sorry for rambling on... ^_^
  7. Thanks jahman. I'll give that a shot tonight. I usually don't use FSUIPC for assigning axis and buttons. I usually just use the assignments area in the FSX options. I have a registered version of FSUIPC so I should be able to do this. I should start using FSUIPC to it's full potential. I bought it a long time ago to be able to use LUA files for my PMDG JS41. Thanks again for the info. I hope this solves it. It's very annoying having your plane doing rolls when on final. My friends online call me a showoff, but I tell them that it's doing it on it's own...lol Cheers,
  8. Not sure I understand. You mean I save a flight and then resume my flight from a later time? I usually start my flight from the "Free Flight" page. I usually load a flightplan that I create in FSCommander 9. But some times I just jump in a plane and fly with no set destination in mind. The only thing that is saved I guess would be my default flight. I have my my own startup flight. But it never gets used because I always go through Free Flight. As for autopilot. I've never experienced this with autopilot on. it's always when I am flying a plane hands-on. Seems to be flawless with autopilot. And this doesn't happen every flight. Sometimes it could happen once in a flight. then another time it can happen 3-4 times in one flight and do this in the next few flights that I go on. Thanks,
  9. yep, I have no spikes. It might flicker a tiny bit if it's not perfectly centered. But i have a small null zone set in FSX that should clear that up. other than that, my controller seems to be doing fine. To me it doesn't seem like a hardware problem. If it was my yoke, I would think that when I am in autopilot, I would see some abnormalities. But once autopilot is engaged, I never see an issue. Thanks,
  10. Hi CoolP,I'm doubtful that it has to do with wake turbulence. I don't have any AI turned on, and the people I fly with are not near me. The last time it happened, there were a few of us at the airport. But I was the first one to take off. And we were all in Cessna's.The feel of this problem is like I were to take my yoke and slam it to one side and continue to slam it back and forth. Almost like road rage and i was smashing my car into the side of another car as we raced down a highway. And it's weird because it can happen even if I am not turning. The last time i was lifting off the runway and got up around 200 feet and then it started doing the glitch. My axis on my joystick can't fight it. it's almost like someone has taken control of my yoke. And as far as I know, my yoke is still in top shape. It's very weird. Thanks for the feedback. =)
  11. Hi all,Hope I'm not duplicating a post here. I did a search for my issue but am having problems searching for something that I can't really title. If this topic exists already, a link would be awesome. But if you have any advice to share on how to fix my problem. That would even be better. For a while now I've been randomly having a problem with my ailerons in FSX. I could fly a bunch of flights and be fine but on occasions this would happen. My plane would violently crank itself to one side in a very jerky motion. I try to fight it, but it does no good. it's like I loose control of my aileron axis for a few moments. I still have control over my rudder, elevator and throttle. Like I said, it's very random. Sometimes it will happen just once for a few seconds. And sometimes it can happen several times during the flight. I don't think it's a hardware issue because I calibrate and inspected my axis and they all seem fine. I am using a Saitek yoke with the SPAD driver. I am also using the latest version of FSUIPC that I purchased. So it is a registered version. I have also enabled the option for reducing controller spikes or something like that. I also checked to make sure that I don't have any conflicts in my control assignments and my axis. Things that I have running when I fly are: FSX FSCommander 9 ActiveSky Evolution EZDok FSHost I've noticed it happening with some payware aircraft that I own, so I don't think it's a problem with the aircraft. Some of my aircraft that I've notice this happen are my Carenado C210, PMDG B737NGX and my Wilco Airbus Series 1. I mentioned FSHost because I'm not sure if it is a coincidence. But I'm not sure if it is just happening when I am flying online. But maybe it did happen offline too can't be sure. My computer specs are as follows: Intel i7-950 12GB DDR3 ATI 5970 I am not getting any lag or anything when this happens. My frame rate is good. Another little tip, is that it never happens when I have autopilot engaged. Any ideas on why my plane is freaking out some times and rolling uncontrollably? I have a friend that this happens to from time to time when he's online too. Thanks in advance. Steven Bond
  12. I didn't get a chance to convert the textures yet. But I manage to get a 1.5 hour flight in last night and it didn't give me the OOM error. The difference was that I took off and landed at default airports. I did not come close to an addon scenery airport. So i guess it is like everyone says. When you come into visual range of the airport and it starts loading textures and objects, it is just too much to handle for an WinXP machine with the amount of applications and addons that I have running. I still have to find time to try to do some texture converting (after backing up everything that I will modify first). I think your suggestion will be the one that might have me landing into a big airport with addon scenery loaded for that place. Thanks again. I'll give you an update when i get a chance to get it all done and put a couple of flights in. :(
  13. Thanks for the reply and the help. I copied your info down and will make it a project for the weekend when I have spare time. I've used DXTBmp many times before with aircraft painting and scenery design. So I shouldn't have many problems. If it doesn't solve the OOM error. I'm sure it'll for certain make things run smoother. Never hurts getting more frames.ps. Sorry I spelled your name wrong in the last post. I know many Shawn's and popped that one in there without verifying. :Sleepy:Thanks Sean
  14. Hi Shawn,If you don't mind me asking. What software are you using to convert the textures? I'd be willing to give it a try in hopes that I can solve this issue and complete a flight. I'd really like to fly this plane but cannot at the moment unless I do something to clear some memory to avoid the OOM error. I was wanting a bigger challenge in flying after using the Wilco Airbus for almost 2 years. So I was debating going with the PMDG MD-11 or the B747-400X. So I said that being I am going to be grabbing the 737NGX when it comes out. I'd might as well get familar with the Boeings. I am getting familar with the 747 using the FMC and autopilot, but am not getting much practice with landing...lolI think there are options in REX2 to lower the texture type and size. It's odd when it's about to crash. Everything starts to lag and then if I were to look at my plane from external view. All I see is the 747's skeleton, just the frame and seats, no shell... Kind of creepy... Then moments after I am pleasures with the error window.Maybe if I can lower the texture quality I can complete a flight. It seems to happen when I am entering visual range of the airport. I'll have to try flights to default airports to see if it still happens. Thanks,
  15. Unless you are running a 64-bit operating system with a crap load of RAM, don't bother...I've been having the infamous "Out of Memory" errors after about 1 hour of flight or when approaching my destination airport. Seems like this plane is just too big of a drain on the system to run under a 32-bit application. I purchased the B747-400X a couple of weeks ago and still haven't been able to complete a flight without getting the OOM error. I've gone through the forum trying other peoples suggestions and nothing worked, even the "Save" did not work. Seems like when your addon scenery kicks in, there isn't enough memory to continue and then it pukes. And PMDG's suggestion on how to fix the problem is to go out and buy Windows7(64bit). Sorry, that's not always an option for a lot of people. Let's everything run out and purchase Win7-64, and then backup/reinstall everything onto the new OS hoping that nothing gets lost on the way. Just so that we can spend hundreds and many hours doing this to be able to use their $50 plane that they can't make run on multiple operating systems. Don't get me wrong. I love this plane. It's just going to have to sit on the shelf until I upgrade. Maybe I can run it without my addons and flying into an area with default scenery... :( My system is as follows:Windows XP Pro (32bit)Intel Quad 95504GB Dual Channel PC2-6400 low latency RAM1TB WD Black hard DriveATI 5850 Video CardDual Monitor SetupWhen I fly I use the following:- FSX (SP2)- PMDG 747-400X- EZDOK- FSPassengers- FSCommander- ActiveSky Evolution- REX2 (only textures, not software running)- Payware Scenery- Airport Enhancement Services (AES)I know it's a lot to have running. And I know that WinXP will only use 3GB minus the video card memory. But why is it only this plane that gives me the OOM error. Why doesn't the JS4100 give me OOM errors that I purchased? To me it is a lot more graphically enhanced over the 747. Maybe it's the technology behind the 747 that requires the hefty load? Is there a setting within the 747's menu that can lower the load? Can there be a "Lite" model added for people who spent the $50 on a plane that they can't use? Maybe not having a virtual cabin? Maybe that would help?Sorry, just had to get that off my shoulders. I fell better now... :( I'm hoping that the 737-NGX doesn't suffer the same issue? Been waiting to buy this one for a looooong time... :(
  16. The Jetstream is an awesome plane to fly. It takes a bit to get use to because the engines don't behave the same as many others do. But once you get used to the plane and it's startup sequence, it's a plane that will have you spending many hours flying to smaller airports in cold climates to use the deicing system. And also be ready for the WOW factor when it comes to the virtual cockpit. Almost everything in that plane is clickable... Very amazing...I hear ya about the rain effects. MS forgot many little features when they did FSX. But it could of been added if ACE Studios was still employed and applied those things in a patch. But I guess we'll never know.
  17. Hi Robert (Svapo3),I would think that it would be included because they have rain effects on the windshield of the JS4100. The wipers also worked for clearing the rain from the windshield too. They also had icing/frost effects. if you didn't have your anti-ice turned on when you had freezing rain. Your windshield would be covered with a thick layer of ice. This made for a nice realism effect. I would imagine that the NGX will have this included into it's huge list of its awesome features.Looking forward to it's release. Going to be sweet... Steven Bond
