Thanks to everyone for the comments! It was my first flight sim flight in months, glad it still looks this good.

I didn't check the framerate, but it seemed to be as good or better as before with the B777.. nothing special. It ran well enough, especially considering I reduced my OC from 4.7 to 4.5 lately after some issues. I'd say it's pretty good! KSFO is more recent that the UK2000 EGLL as far as I can tell, but they both look amazing.

HA!! Yes, the main reason I've always "loved" this flight, especially with the B744, is because of that old ITVV video with Mr. Carter. Good catch!! Virge' 19.

    Hi all,

I just wanted to comment on the fantastic job the PMDG team have done on the new QOTSv2. I use FSX and have just flown from Bangkok to Alice Springs. I used sim-brief for the flight plan and weather brief; all loaded into the plane seamlessly. I used an on-line fuel planner which got the fuel load just right. This is the first time I have flown a complete flight without a freeze or stutter or OOM issues. I reinstalled FSX about a week ago and left every add-on off except for AS16 which I use for the 747's weather radar.
I have now come to the conclusion that all of the scenery addons I was using were contributing to the stutters, freezes and OOM problems I was having. So, after having decided I would rather fly the beautiful plane PMDG gave us than look at all of the flash scenery, I have to say, my flying is a lot more enjoyable. Well done team.

Another nice long airline flight with the PMDG 777!! I decided to make a video and take screenshots for this one, so I've also posted a thread in the "Videos" subforum.

I really, really enjoyed this flight... It was my first complete trip with FS2Crew and I very much enjoyed it. Most of you will probably find the video boring but I had fun, so here it is!

    Link to YouTube video directly
The video was recorded using ShadowPlay in 1080p60, even though the sim doesn't usually maintain 60 fps. I did not record my voice, so you will only see what I was saying to the FS2Crew FO in the top green "speech recognition bar", sadly. You will hear her voice though.

Have you tried to set your CPU to default clock speed? So no overclock. I have the feeling that soooo many CTDs are due to bad overclocks. People mess around with CPU clock speeds and have no idea what they are doing. Can't really blame them as with all the utilities provided by mainboard manufacturers it really appears as if overclocking is easily done in 15 minutes. But proper overclocking is not.
  15. PhilH gave reputation to carlito777 in P3D V 3.1 CTD Kernelbase every flight

A bad overclock does lead to all kinds of weird things. I could just be that the CPU gets slightly hotter and hotter over time and then malfunctions. There is no systematic misbehavior from bad overclocks that's why it is so difficult to diagnose them. Might not be the reason for your crashes but this is for sure something that can be easily tested. If you still get the errors then you can do all the uninstalling and reinstalling things which take much more time...

My post was not only meant to address your specific problem. It's just a general feeling that I'm getting. Even people who have no real knowledge of IT stuff get into overclocking and then are suprised to see that their system is crashing. Overclocking so that the OS boots up and you can run "normal" software without apperent problems is not difficult. However, this does not mean that it is stable. Achieving a stable overclock requires a lot of time and understanding. And A LOT of testing!
  16. PhilH gave reputation to Jim Young in P3D V 3.1 CTD Kernelbase every flight
This crash (exception code c0020001) is usually called if you have more than one instance of the app running.  For instance, you might have thought P3D did not open so you went and clicked on the icon again then the first instance opened up and you did not see the second instance as it was behind the first instance.  I've done this a couple of times with P3D as there is a long delay opening the program.  Not sure why LM did not program their app to open immediately to show everyone it is working.  Having two instances running requires a lot of resources.

When closing the program and you get exception 0xC000041d or Status_Fatal_User_Callback_Exception is harder to diagnose.  You have many programs installed with P3D that may not be fully compatible with P3Dv3 (like FS RealTime, EZDok, Reshade) and these apps could be causing the problem as they are not shutting down properly.  In other words, if you just had P3Dv3 and you got this error, I would say that it was P3D that was at fault but you have many addons that might have caused the problem too.  Best way to diagnose is to move your dll.xml to a temporary folder and do not allow these addons to run.  Does the problem still occur without these addons running?

FSX and P3D work well running by themselves in default configurations.  It's when you start adding addons when the issues start happening.

It all could be caused by your Windows Operating System too as the kernel.dll is a system file.  You should check your Windows 8 for corrupted or missing files - http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

The AVSIM CTD Guide has the following information regarding the kernelbase.dll:

Kernelbase.dll – No known fix but some have solved this problem by updating or reinstalling their video card drivers.  Scan your system for corrupt/missing files (click for how to).  Disable startup programs by opening the Run command on your computer and typing msconfig in the box.  When open, look at the Startup tab and disable all startups (they are all not needed for operation of your computer).

The AVSIM CTD Guide provides many more suggestions for troubleshooting as there is no known fix for your issues so you have to investigate the issue on YOUR system.  The link to the guide can be found in my signature.

I have provided my input and out of ideas so I'll let others provide some suggestions but there is no known fix for your problem(s).  If there was we would be joyously telling everyone about it.  Every computer setup is different.  I don't know how many times I have provided suggestions that usually fix a problem for someone and they come back and say that didn't fix it but I think I found the problem as I had thought I had disabled my photoscenery but I had 5 photosceneries running in the background.  Or I forgot to disable my ENBSeries module.  When I removed it, the crashes went away.  Or, I forgot to tell you, I had several tweaks in my fsx/p3d.cfg and when I removed them the crashes went away.  The BufferPool tweak puts so many resources on your computer system if not properly employed it crashes the system.  For others with the same parameters, the tweak works great.

In future updates to the AVSIM CTD Guide, I do not plan on posting probable causes/fixes as what works for one does not work for another.  I went around the Internet looking for solutions to certain problems and put the fixes in the guide.  Most of those will probably go away and I will put more emphasis on my troubleshooting sections so that one can easily troubleshoot the problem themselves.

Good luck finding the solution to your problem.  I know how nasty and frustrating crashes can be but you will need to do some investigating on your own.  If nothing else works, reinstall Windows and FSX/P3D (I've done this a lot but it definitely fixed the problems).

    Thank you all!

Jim, it's hard to tell.. I haven't used an FPS monitor for a while, and honestly although I bought P3D v3 in October when it was released, I only really started using it about a week ago. I had only used FSX before.

In my opinion, I've never been happier! I haven't used FSX for several weeks, don't forget, but I feel like my simming has never been better than now. I am really happy, a part from the CTD I get on every single flight so far, but it's most likely me that screwed up at some point in the install a couple of months ago.

The FPS while on the ground in major airports (I only have UK2000 EGLL and KSFO FlightBeam for now) is fine for me, I haven't checked.. maybe 25-40 FPS? I do remember from my FSX days though, when I used to take-off, I sometimes got some really bad stutters on the take-off roll... I really hated that. It feels much smoother now.

On one of the flights from the pictures above, I discovered that having "cloud shadows" on in P3D made my frame-rate drop to like 10 FPS when it's full overcast in a busy airport, and in the PMDG 777. Just turning that option off gave me so much more smoothness, and it doesn't look THAT bad without cloud shadows, FSX doesn't even have them anyway!

TLDR: I am happy with the performance and smoothness, and the general LOOK of the sim just makes me want to never go back to FSX. I think it's mostly the lighting that makes me so happy.

Look at these 4 shots, first from FSX, and then from P3Dv3. FSX doesn't look BAD, but I find P3D's look much more satisfying...

    P3DV3-2

I hope I kind of answer your question!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, in the pictures above (first post) with all the London buildings, I had forgotten my scenery density sliders fully right... I don't usually flight like that. In the VC, with all the buildings in clouds, I was getting 16-20FPS. I didn't mind landing with that framerate because it was still relatively smooth, and looked great on the screenshots! I haven't flown more than 4-5 full flights (12h+) in P3D yet, but I have had 0 OOMs. And I don't need to disable sceneries I don't fly over anymore. Everything is left ON.

Yup, I always pair up the ETOPS destinations in PFPX, such as NSTU/PHTO then PHTO/KMRY etc. Also you'll see a significant decrease in fuel carried to destination if you let PFPX auto select a Redispatch Point.  I just figured this out a few months ago and now use a RDP in the planning on all long hauls; I may select different airports but I found that the fix selected by PFPX yields the best solution.

I purchased P3D + PMDG 777 a couple of months back but I hadn't had the time to do a full flight like I used to. I did one last night and wow, I am really happy!! It feels smoother than what FSX used to feel for me anyway, and the lighting looks so good. Here are a couple of screen shots I wanted to share.

The flight was Air New Zealand 8, and here is the full set for those interested. The highlights are below.
    Enjoy!

Just thought I would let you know I have finally gotten to reinstalling FSX and a few addons. I'm quite impressed with the improvement over the stock clocks! I haven't done much yet, only having installed the PMDG MD-11, but I'm getting a solid 60 FPS in default SFO, inside the VC at 1680x1050, which isn't that bad!

I had quite lower FPS with my i3 if I recall.

I'll post again once everything is setup and working properly.

I've been wandering how you were getting on, so thanks for the update.
    With regard to voltages this is listed as part of the product information for all K series Sandy Bridge CPUs on Overclockers.co.uk and I understand that this information was given to them by Intel;
    - Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
    - Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
    - Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
    - Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
    - These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
    - All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

You might find the information on the spreadsheet here interesting it lists peoples prime stable overclock speeds on their Sandy Bridge CPUs and the voltages required to obtain them - http://www.overclock.net/t/968053/official-the-sandy-stable-club-guides-voltages-temps-bios-templates-inc-spreadsheet

When stress testing my 2700K occasionally calls for 1.424v and my core temps hit just over 80c but because I use Offset voltage mode my CPU very rarely if ever gets that much voltage or that hot in every day useage, i.e. in FSX it is getting 1.384v and temps are in the mid 60s (with a silent fan profile). I find it encouraging that you were able to get prime to run at 5GHz so think 4.8Ghz 24/7 should deffinately be on the cards as long as you are happy to up the voltage a bit and you are using Offset rather than fixed mode.
I think you've got a decent setup and as long as you're happy with the graphics card then it should last you a good while.

You're more than welcome to the advice and I'm glad to have been able to help you choose your kit. The H60 should be fine and allow a decent overclock, like you I think it was the best solution for your situation, due to your space limitations any air cooler would have been a compromise and so performance would have been compromised also.

I believe that the Appdata folder is designed to allow unique customisation of single applications for multiple users, for example in an office or domain environment where everybody will be using the same application but will want it set up differently. Because the actual installation of the base application has to be the same for everyone I would suspect that the installation proceedure doesn't look at the Appdata settings until after it's up and running and needs to check for any individual customisations that apply for a specific user. So in effect it's your Scenareo #2 (positive) and that's definately been my experience in the past.

Here's PMDGs guide to completely removing FSX it mentions deleting the relevent Appdata folder so it looks like you should do this if you want to do a totally clean install http://support.preci...nstall-fsx.aspx
