  1. So why refer to it as Terrain Radar? As for FSX weather, it's not so much stupid as practical. There would be no value in wasting a lot of computer resources in simulating weather down to individual cloud level.Kevin Hall
It shouldn't be referred as Terrain Radar. It's mistakenly named as a radar because it has a re-draw sweep. I still remember the first time I got in a flight deck and pushed TERR. I asked my instructor how come we can activate this radar, but not the radar while parked at the gate. My instructor answered briefly that the EGPWS is not radar. It just uses a re-draw sweep engine to display the terrain data. So yeah... it's a mistake almost all of us make.

  2. Hey Captains Update: I just got 2 airlines that will offer me the use of their logo if I pay. Jet Blue and Westjet. While my executive team votes, It's your time to vote. Voting will close at 12:00 noon Pacific Standard Time on August 31st 2011. My team will vote. While we vote, I have decided that it's your time to vote as well. Just PM me with your votes and I will count them and give you the results at 1:00 Pacific Standard Time on August 31st 2011.Your choice, your VA.

  3. Update- Yes, this will also be open for all PMDG aircrafts and even the defaults. I just mentioned the NGX since this post is in the NGX section. Our voters will vote on the following airlines: Since I'm from Canada, there will be Air Canada and Westjet. From Europe: Swiss air, KLM, and British Airways. From the United States, there will be: Alaska Airlines, Southwest, and Jet Blue. The results from our voting will be announced shortly. Since I'm already part of Virtual Alaska Airlines, there will be little chance that ASA will be voted. I am assuming that our voters will vote twice, once for the country or continent, and once for the specific airline. We have 17 voters, so there will be no chance for a tie. Looking forward to the sign ups via PM!

  4. Hey Captains There will be a Virtual Airline avaliable soon for NGX pilots and the airline will be announced after a team votes. If you would like to be part of the new staff and fly your NGX in this VA, PM me with your full name, an email I can contact you at, and what staff position you would prefer.I look forward to be working with you guys.

  5. Hello Captains I am starting a virtual airline, Westjet Virtual. I have already bought the domain name and I am waiting for activation. As you all know, a Virtual Airline needs staff to run the VA. If any of you would like to be a part of my staff, please PM me with your full name, email, why you want to join, and what position fits you the most. I am the President (CEO) and Webmaster of this VA. I need a Vice President, Flight Ops manager, Fuel and Payload manager, Flight Scheduler, Route manager, Assistant Webmaster, and an Airline Operations Manager. That is 7 spots open for grabs. When you qualify, you will be getting an email with the list of the selected staff. Only 8 members will run this VA. Myself and 7 others. I hope that I will get some applications. Thank-you for applying! I will get back to you all with an update shortly, and if you are a webmaster, I will get you admin rights to the site. Thank-You all. Henry

  6. Usually when flying with pax you will use on and off. Turning it on while descending through 10000ft, is a good indicator for the flight attendants to start securing the cabin. As in the cockpit you also want the cabin sterile. You don't want pax up walking around and having to get everyone secured as you configure. Turning it on at 10,000 allows time for the flight attendants and pax to secure the cabin. Imagine flying into Denver in which the approach comes quickly after passing 10000. We would only set auto during prefight when there is only crew onboard or during pattern work.
Not really on topic, but are you a real world airline pilot? Thanks. I'll take your advice for the AUTO!

  7. To affect FPS like is being alleged here would mean we made major changes to the way the displays draw or something like that - we have not.
The way displays draw. ........Displays draw. Hmm. (thinks for a while) Whoa!!!!! Are you .... Could you..... Are you saying....... Terrain display... update sweep.......... yes!!!!!!!!! Is that a hint that PMDG is considering to put in the ND terrain display update sweep option?

  8. I was looking at some pictures that I took onboard a 737 when I noticed something about the EGPWS that I think we should all be able to use since we got addons like OrbX, FSDT, or something similar.PMDG, in a future service pack, can we get the RAAS runway awareness system on the NGX?

  9. I think pressing SHFT-E 2 will activate them if the plane is parked just perfectly. Problem is that using this command ( which is the FSX default command ) will also close the L front entry door. Use the command a 2nd time to reopen the door. I have successfully used this a couple of times but, as you know, FSX is very fussy about exactly how the plane is parked. Most of the time I find it to be annoying since once activated it continues to repeat and usually just about when I am ready for pushback with all doors closed it has set itself up to load more baggage! Craig
Pressing Shift+E+2 will only bring up the panel that allows you to dim or brighten the displays. It won't do anything else unless you delete that keyboard command.

  10. This is totally off topic, but the words "ACT" in the screenshot above was added by PMDG after taking note of my suggestion! (I told them to add the words ACT after activating and executing since the real FMCs I've used all do that. If you don't believe me, look at Nick's takeoff video, the one that's an hour long. The FMC Perf Init is activated, but no ACT.) WOW! Makes me kind of proud inside! Sorry. Off topic. lol. Back to your question.

  11. Hello all I was taking some screenshot with the PMDG 737NGX when I compared them to other user's on this forum when I notinced that my displays are a bit darker. For example, I thought my terrain display had the correct colours, but it turns out that the amber colour doesn't look that light and the red is too red. Is that normal or is my monitor having colour troubles? I just calibrated it with a Spyder 3. What colour temperatures are you all using and what brightness adjustment on the NGX knobs are you guys setting for the ND?Thanks!

  12. Here is the decoding of the solid green colour on the EGPWS.According to Honeywell's manual, with terrain peaks mode on, solid green means:Shown only when no Red or Yellow terrain areas are within range on the display.Highest terrain not within 500 (250 with gear down) feet of aircraft altitude. Even though this might describe your situation, I highly doubt that the terrain is actually that flat. You should be getting a combination of dotted green and solid green.

  13. Just completed my first full flight with the NGX 800WL from KVCV to KBFI. The aircraft performed flawlessly in every regard with the exception of this terrain problem. Approaching KBFI on the Olympia 7 arrival, I started getting the red blocks and "pull up" messages as I descended below 4000 feet on a right downwind for a visual approach to runway 13R. Before departure from KVCV, I turned peaks mode OFF, and "show water as cyan" was also turned off. Time enroute was about 2 hours. Based on what others are reporting, this issue seems to be related to the amount of water in the vicinity of the arrival airport. LFMN, KSFO, KSEA, PHNL, KORD - all places where people are seeing the false terrain warnings, and all airports which are immediately adjacent to, or surrounded by, large bodies of water. Either that, or perhaps the simulated EGPWS is not transitioning to approach mode. The EGPWS computer receives status signals from the flaps and landing gear, and its response to terrain should change once the aircraft is configured for landing.
I think PMDG got this warning during landing on addon scenery as well. Check out the 10th picture starting from the top in this forum: http://forum.avsim.n...es-and-the-ngx/That's the one with the interior. As you can see, there is that Terrain written in yellow on the ND for a precaution.
