  1. I pass on repaints with a lot of lines or details in that area for that exact reason. You know how Mercator projection maps tend to make the countries at the top and bottom look much larger than they look when projected onto a globe? It's sort of like that. A lot of pinching and warping takes place. You have to compensate on your paint kit for the warping of the texture that will occur on the 3D model. I find the bottom of the tail and bottom of the nose to be particularly challenging. I've all but abandoned Southwest Lone Star One for now because of an area of distortion right where the star goes over the top.
  2. I asked to have the fire extinguisher replaced with a bottle of Windex.
  3. Fun is subjective. And if my idea of fun becomes "overboard" before yours does, that does not mean I'm attacking the way you do things. It varies with the individual and how much time they have to devote to the hobby. I'll never forget a poster telling someone they should uninstall their NGX because they wanted to fly under a bridge. I never got that to make sense in my head why someone was undeserving of the product because they didn't follow SOPs and fly scheduled flights on VA's. It shouldn't matter. Enjoy yourself!
  4. I generally stick with my preferred airline along with their SOPs as much as possible with the exception that I pick the route and when I fly it. I use flightaware to get my route and turn on LiveATC.net on another computer so I can hear what procedures they're using in the real world, plus it adds nice ambiance. I don't want to go overboard, because at the end of the day, it's supposed to be fun.
  5. I think I painted that bird! Great pics! Thanks a lot, Mike!
  6. Well, as a repainter, I've never experienced any problems due to the VC registration texture. All VC numbers are edited. The VC N number is not a mod. It's a texture just like the outside. It should no more have an effect on the gauges than the exterior paint does. It's included with the paint kit and all of your planes have a unique one given by the repainter. It's not making any sense to me why it would matter any more than a red plane not working because it got painted blue. If you delete that texture, you get a blank box, but no other effect occurs. Have any other repainters encountered this phenomenon before? I'm really curious why I've never encountered it if it is a VC texture issue.
  7. We give unique registration textures to each repaint we do. I can't imagine altering it would have any effect on your gauges.
  8. Ah, I gotcha. I'll be uploading a new WN 800 soon with the new set included if you're interested in having a look at them. The effects with v2 are very subtle. I had to really play with the sun angle and the position of the plane to catch the detail in the screen shots. In most instances, I can't see them at any distance.
  9. Mark, maybe you can move that topic to the repaint thread. This is for the enhancement pack 2 previews. And if you'll have a look at the OP you'll see that the bump files you have are being replaced soon. Have a look a the pics. Peter, I'm going to send you a beta set of v2 for you preview sometime tomorrow. I'll send you a PM when it's done.
  10. Smasher, Those items aren't included in the paint kit, but I am trying to modify the existing textures as much as I can. I've been able to darken the outer walls of the tires without losing the detail, and I've altered the exhaust on the Southwest paint to make it brighter and the effect isn't TOO terrible. BUT, that is achieved on the diffuse textures and I don't include those in the enhancement packs. It would have to be part of a repaint. Henry, I've got the airstair texture finished also.
  11. Thank you, Bryan and Simon for the work-arounds. Sorry for the trouble. So far, that would be my only nit-pick. It's otherwise working wonderfully for me. It's worth every penny and more. I try to brag about it as much as I can in other forums. Thank you once again.
  12. I understood the first time. I was asking you to troubleshoot common problems, but since you've chosen to get rude, I'll let somebody else help you.
  13. Are you sure it's the engines and not wind noise? You may try pressing the Q button twice to turn the sound off and on again. This sometimes fixes a "stuck" engine noise.
  14. Hey there, Jev, I'm not at my home computer at the moment, but I'd like to have a look and see what I edited on that file. I may have edited it for a specific livery and included it in error. I'll get back to you as soon as I've had a chance to look at it. Sorry about the confusion. If you're interested, I'm planning a major update within the next week or so and I've posted previews in this new thread: http://forum.avsim.n...2-preview-pics/
  15. I'm afraid I can't remember which post it was in, but I believe the official word is that they are still planning to release them. I have no idea what the timeline is, but they haven't been forgotten.
  16. Classic or the refit? I'm partial to the refitted 1701 (the movie model). I've been a Trekker longer than I've been an aviation nerd. Thanks for posting those!
  17. Thank you, Henry! Yes, I'll include an extra file for liveries with airstairs. That's on my agenda for this morning, actually.
  18. And once again, in spite of pleading and instructing from the mods, this has degraded into a legal discussion. Can we get this back on track for those of us that are interested in this platform? If only folks followed forum rules like they do the EULA....
  19. I'll get that taken care of, Thomas. Thanks for pointing it out. Carl, that's my plan. I favor the clean models too, so I'll definitely keep the option available.
  20. I need to do some tweaking to the tail section and the bump maps will be finished, then I'll move on to the specs once again! Here are a few before and after shots with the default maps on top and the newest set belowrivet shots
  21. I don't envy you. If I ever get bored with Southwest, I'm only going to paint white planes with straight cheat lines from now on. :(
  22. It's the ultimate eye candy for ground ops. The push back features are fantastic with animated tugs and wing walkers. No more magical invisible pushback. On my lower end system I get a few jerks when the catering trucks and baggage tractors are in motion, but nothing I'm not used to on my system. I would definitely recommend it.Al, that is so very true. :(
  23. I just save my modified cabin texture to the livery's folder and it packs it with the ptp file. I haven't tried tinkering with a fallback system like that yet. I was afraid I'd mess something up. lol
  24. I had FSX paused when I launched the FS2Crew gauge, that causes FS2Crew to pause when I un-pause the simulator and vice versa. I minor inconvenience, but I did have to end the flight and start over to fix it.Forgive me, but I should read the manual to see if I can unbind the sim pause button from the fs2crew pause. I have not checked the manual yet to see if that's possible.
