    Thanks, Kalo. These regularly scheduled state specific flights are really a lot of just plain fun and also interesting socially. It also seems, especially lately, that unscheduled spur-of-the-moment group flights occure almost every day, particularly in the middle and late evening EST. I love the way new pilots are made to feel welcome and included right off the bat over there.

    We now have about 40 servers running fsopen with about 90 players so far and more joining all the time.

    FSOpen/sessions has become a most helpful resource for finding FSX multiplayer IP direct opportunities, all the more important with the demise of GameSpy FSX. FSOpen data has become indispensable to us in our operation of msFLIGHTS.net FSX multiplayer and this data is graphically featured on our forum home page. The efforts of FSX Beyond GameSpy and the gang from Boston Virtual is fast becoming a go-to source for resources available to the FSX multi community at large. We at msFLIGHTS.net will not soon forget the hospitality offered by AVSIM TeamSpeak one night when our own TeamSpeak server went down. Thank you again for that hospitality, AVSIM. I truly believe that we won't be missing GameSpy at all and I agree with Mr. Ambrose (FSMP) elsewhere in the AVSIM forums that this deactivation is probably the best thing that could have happened to the FSX multi community at large.

     

    This cessation of services by GameSpy is not unlike the benifits and opportunities we realized at msFLIGHTS.net when Microsoft killed MS Flight.

     

    Mr. Wave, I look forward to participating in your FSOpen forums soon as you approve my recent registration there.

    I endorse the efforts of FSX Beyond GameSpy enthusiastically. FSOpen/sessions is additionally a fine place to find FSX IP direct connections IMHO. I'm from msFLIGHTS.net. We're very active all day and all night, mostly FSX multi free flight, some organized hops. I do not think we (the multiplayer FSX community) will miss GameSpy at all. I agree completely with Mr. Ambrose (FSMP) that the worst thing that could happen to us would be for GameSpy to come back on line supporting FSX. Similarly, the best thing to happen to our community over at msFLIGHTS.net was when Microsoft killed MS Flight.

    I don't know what this means but I found this post on a Gamespy labeled Facebook page that I assume is official. The reply by "Gamespy" (?) suggests that titles no longer supported by their publishers were being considered for discontinuation from Gamespy's hosted session finder thingy. We over at msFLIGHTS.net continue to run our FSX community in IP direct mode to any one of three user level FSX multi servers. The MS Flight part of our group are as yet unaffected by any GFWL server problems. I've been away from AVSIM for some time now (since the demise of MS Flight) and I stopped by to read what your fine community thought of the Gamespy FSX disconnect of two days ago.

    Loki's continued handling of the difficult situation which he inherited impresses me also. I only wonder what limitations and restraints have been eased or lifted by MS Games Studios on the position of Contact Team Community Manager? That is to say, who does Loki report to now at MS and what might be that department's mission statement these days?

    I'm still here and I'll continue to read AVSIM daily, even if I seldom post. You see, I try only to post when I can add something. We've gotten together a little multinational group over at msflightforum.myfastforum.org with pilots of equal caliber to those that I find on AVSIM. Ms. Delafina visited us one last time to say goodbye over there. She warmed my heart, made me cry just a little bit. We're currently working thru the five stages of grief and barnstorming VC Cubs over there. I still have FSX and FS9 installed and will revisit them soon, I'm sure.

    Shall we all wiki together a "The Big Alaska Airport List"? I started taking notes while starting my "centi-explorer" quest on airports but I'm disorganized. The task overwhelms me. I'm starting at the south west end of the Aleutians and the more I zoom in, the more hopeless the task seems. A really nice airport directory was published by one hard working poster for Hawaii. A google map add-on was published. I used these every simming day. I'll contribute to the data collection but I don't presume to organize the effort nor decide the data needed to be collected. I propose we take an airport directory project into our own hands.

     

    Does the Stearman not have GPS coordinates on that little hand held device by the pilot's right knee?

     

    I can't wait for the gang over at FSWigets to finish their up with their paying stuff and fix MS Flight widget. They know what's wrong and have it on their schedule to fix it.

     

    Am I the only avatar that brought a coat? (Avatar # 4) Those are sectionals and an E6B I'm carrying in my vest pocket, I know my tie looks funny. My moustasche fell off but #4 sure looks like me 30 years ago, 'specially with the sunglasses on.

    Forgive me when I'm wrong 'cause I've been up AAAAALL night downloading and looking around. Unlike Hawaii, the navigational aids don't show up unless you map zoom in very close so they're hard to count but there are plenty of ILS and NDB. Similarly, there are lots of airports, big and small but, in map, they don't appear without zooming in to a much greater degree than Hawaii. Maybe this is 'cause the area is so much larger here in Alaska. Additionally, my big rig decided to quit yesterday so I'm doing this on Honey's powerful (?) laptop with newbie TrackIR and a Logitech G940. I had to rewire EVERYTHING tonight but mostly things went smooth. I'm still happy but now I'm tired. Just another short hop or two in the snow, the wonderful driving snow at dawn.

    I downloaded at 09:00 27 June GMT for about 40 minutes from Xbox live. I stumbled and searched for a part of that time until I figured out what the downloading software wanted me to do. Fairly effortless with no payment glitches nor other problems. I've flown for about 2 hours in the driving snow and I'm quite impressed. Thank you, Microsoft. I'm happy.

    I have no tip nor trick, no patch nor hack nor fix in this post. I'm a Flight fan, okay? The thank you that Microsoft deserves here with TrackIR and toe brakes and even the really cool weather is that their implementation in this free system update was a change for MS's production schedule and a laudable attempt to show that they are indeed listening. TrackIR and differential pedal braking weren't an experience pack in in-game Marketplace. They were an effort by the devs to accomodate the expressed wishes of their customers. Here we have Mr. Burne (Don) and others to thank. While I'm on this roll, may I express sincere gratitude to Jeroen and Chase and Mr. Allensworth as well as the frequent MS Flight AVSIM posters. I read your words daily and I am the better for it.

    Todays aerocahce is on the NW side of Oahu, NOT the NE side

     

    ...and the search term for the aerocache du jour presented after 03:00, Tuesday, 12 June GMT should read "John A. Burns Freeway, H-3". Does anybody also remember the reciprocal bearing VOR aerocaches of a few weeks ago ? Honest mistakes or navigational challenges, I don't know...

    Waimea Canyon run from Waimea town north 'til I couldn't climb my Maule out of the canyon and scored my first crash to desktop (the correct phrase?) was my first day (Feb 29th?) VFR "WOW" moment. The scenery passing before my windscreen engrossed me so much that I forgot to fly the aircraft.

     

    A month later, RV-6A Landing Challenge 5 was my more mature IFR "WOW" moment when Nawiliwili Bay lighthouse passed under my left wing, 300 feet below and Lihue runway 3 loomed out of the blinding fog, right where the needle said it would be.

     

    I, also, am interested in WOW moment anecdotes as this is the spirit of MS Flight to me.
