  1. You say a "brand new build" Sam. So I presume an entire build, CPU MB and RAM etc.

So have you rejected Skylake, if so, I'm curious why.

Skylake is a tad faster, [iMC improvements] plus DDR4 and other advantageous features.

    Same question to Callum.

Mainly the price differences, for a Skylake system anything I configure seems to come out at around £1050-£1100, however I only really have the budget for £800-£850 Max. This is the first time i've built from scratch so i'm also not overly confident treading in to territory where not yet many people have yet been. (However that'll change after time).

I have definitely looked in to the newer processors and have seen the improvements in performance but i'm not sure whether I can personally justify an extra £200 for a machine that's the top end of today's standards when I can configure a Haswell system which will still blow away most of my games and simulators with ease.

  2. Currently asking myself the same question for a brand new build I'm doing. I'm basically telling myself:

    - The i5 4690k is base clock 3.5 with Turbo up to 3.9Ghz standard, and would need OC'ing to get any further.

    - The i7 4790k is base of 4.0 with Turbo up to 4.4Ghz standard.

Obviously the only REAL difference is the hyper-threading, which isn't really of any bother to FS users right now. However IMHO for future proofing and purely because of its base clock and how right now the processor would be staying stable, I'm probably going to go for the i7 to feel more comfortable. I want to get at least 5 years of comfortable gaming/simming before even considering upgrading as this is my first big proper build.

  3. Away from the discrepancies in accuracy of the flight data, this movie is about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse mixed with responsibility. Full of life lessons but also a gripping and, and certain points, quite funny film.

I enjoyed watching it very much when it came out in the UK!

  5. Something is definitely happening behind the scenes. And it is not only the FS9.1 patch disappearing from MS.

I don't know if you noitced, guys, but FSX SP2 packs were uploaded to the AVSIM library three days ago by MS.

The FSX Service Packs were uploaded by us - we had a "tip-off" that, as you say, things are happening behind the scenes (although we don't know for sure) and saw no reason why not to upload them to our servers. I hadn't noticed the FS9.1 update had also been pulled.. I think it would be wise to upload that too.

  6. Anyone who's flown to/from Manchester Airport in the past 10 or so years will know that there's a rather large mockup of a 747 by the runway...

    Here it is on fire.

Unfortunately no Kerosene burns today as the wind would have blown the smoke straight over the runway threshold... So we substituted that with 700 kilos of LPG. A tad better than a day in the office.

Pretty warm out there. You like??

  7. The 737 NG is probably the most noisy flight deck for a modern airliner. Alot of NG and classic pilots wear noise cancelling headphones to prevent the loss of hearing.

These figures are considerably higher than the airbuses noise output

One things for sure that the 'Buses are quieter than Boeings. However like the others, i'm quite certain you wont get 100dB in an airliner cockpit.

  8. No, it is more of trying to get the product out as cheap as possible doing that by reducing man hour research.

I completely disagree. I've actually been to Rolls-Royce's Derby facility just a few miles away and the showed me the research they've pulled. It's really spectacular. One of their Engineers said "We had a phase considering putting less research effort in, but after the QF incident we've completely ruled that out. Safety is and always will be our top priority, as we'll only ever make money with a safe product."

Saying that, though, it's another worrying feeling knowing that ANA exchanged a great deal of their engines due to "bad parts". Sound familiar?

  9. The sad thing for me, is that I'll not be flying this for a long while after it's released. I know for a fact that it's going to be a couple of years at least until I get the funds for a medium-sized PC for FSX rather than my FS9 laptop.

And yet, I feel happy looking at these images. The detail is astounding and it really is a nice aircraft to just "look" at!

    Great job!

  10. It depends. If the CFG corruption was the rear-end of a corrupted installation file, then no, it won't be in working order. However, it's more common that the installation process corrupted ("skipped a beat") which caused errors in that file - and that might not happen again.

Surely, if you do re-install everything and it doesn't work, couldn't you just go through the same fixing steps again? E.G replace the CFG with a new one which PMDG sent you before?

  11. 1. Start with the modified sim1.dll as Egbert has suggested - it makes a world of difference.

    2. Adjust the idle thrust in the air file - It is in section 1506 - adjust the value for 25% N1 (maybe also for 20% and 30% , depending)

I have replaced the sim1.dll and adjusted idle thrust on all my aircraft and taxiing is now a pleasure.

I've tried this before and all that happens is a CTD on loading the menus?? Could you send me the DLL that you have installed?

  12. There are multiple library managers, which is a big hint as to why the standards change. I will always change such a file into (for example) "EGNX - East Midlands Airport" and then the state (if applicable) afterwards. However, another manager could do it in reverse.

It's been encouraged to always look for a standard in another file, but unfortunately it's not that easy since the standards change over time, and it could take a while (we like to process a file as soon as possible).

A similar point has been bought up before about adding developer names to Author fields - and we finally agreed to try and add the developer into the field UNLESS it is an AI repaint. With the new Library in the making, I think it would be prime time to create a "SOP" guide for the library managers - to set a universal standard for all types of file which get uploaded thereafter. In fact, I'll try and get that discussed within the team and put into action soon.

  13. I'm swinging on it at the moment - The line-up doesn't really look that good this year, anyway. I probably will go because for my Dad's birthday I said I'd drive him there.

Getting hopefully a higher than standard ticket, too. See anyone who goes, there!

  14. Also loving the filter system :LMAO:

Yes, it's possible to change a file's **le in the Library. We can change the **le, Authors, Description, Category, sometimes the ZIP file name, and the download count.

Edit: I wrote about the filter yet still wrote T-i-t-l-e as one word. :fool:
