I always thought Dovetail's cancellation of FSW was "bizarre". If indeed Microsoft wanted them to give it back, then that makes sense they would have had to cancel it...

Finally got the confirmation email!

Tried to sign up several times since Monday. I never got an email to verify my email address.

1 minute ago, 188AHC said:Don't load the GeForce Experience. There have been reports of it causing some CTD's. Try one thing at a time and I'm sure you will find the culprit.
One question, however. Why are you using Alt-Enter?
But without GeForce Experience there is no recording capability from my Nvidia GPU, recording is now called Share, former shadowplay. So, no GeForce Experience = no Share/shadowplay. A few days ago, all was fine. Nvidia Geforce experience was updated recently; Nvidia Geforce experience won't allow the use of a previous version, and when there is a new version, launching Nvidia Geforce experience will update it to the new version! So I can't put the previous version back! Nvidia website doesn't have older versions of GeForce Experience; the only older versions the give are older drivers versions!
Alt+Enter toggles from full screen to window, and vice versa.

Hi Jim,
Well, after uninstalling then reinstalling the Nvidia drivers + GeForce Experience, the CTD still happens.
As low settings in FSX SE don't solve it, I am at a loss to what is the cause... maybe the GeForce Experience version itself, so of course the latest version gets installed, so the problem remains.
Regards,

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your help: you are the only one, so priceless.
So I tried to lower the FSX SE settings:
Global texture resolution: to the left, so basically none
Aircraft: very low
Scenery settings: ALL to the left: So a World of blurries.
And the crash after shadowplay, then alt+enter still occurs, terrain.dll!
I can't get any lower in settings, I think, and the crash still occurs. It can't be settings.
I think next step is to uninstall GE force and Nvidia drivers with Display Driver Uninstaller DDU, as advised 2 years ago by my PC manufacturer, Chillblast. At the time it did the trick for another problem.
I send a feedback to Nvidia via GeForce, let's see...
Have you got any idea?

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your reply. The AVSIM CTD guide is indeed good! I did try most things until page 11. In the process of testing, I got 4 crashes, all involving terrain.dll: started FSX SE, started a flight, pressed alt+enter about 10 times, no crash, then used shadowplay for a few seconds, pressed alt+enter up to 4 times (sometimes I needed to use shadowplay a 2nd time for a few seconds), and the crash happened: first in full screen, then in a maximised window but all black, sounds cut for < 1 second, then still black with sound of the aircraft, then after ~20 secs, CTD. So, crash only after using shadowplay; a few days ago doing the same was fine!
To me though, the problem must come from the Nvidia GeForce experience update in late March 2019, as I hadn't changed anything in the FSX SE, and I use it in the same way as before with Nvidia Share/shadowplay. It didn't happen before that update. But GeForce experience won't allow to reinstall the previous version!
SFC /scannow found no problem.
I removed FSX.cfg, crash still happened
I removed scenery.cfg, crash still happened (I put both my originals back of course)
I don't have any AI aircraft software, no FSDT, no big airliners, but several ORBX add-ons (last Orbx addons installed about 3 months ago!), a few other scenery add-onds, a few planes addons, but no new ones in the last month either. I don't have FSUIPC. I have Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.1 .
As AV, I use Security Essentials, which never caused problems.

Hi,
In the last few days, after using Nvidia Shadowplay (even for a few seconds) to record a video of FSX SE, if then I press Alt+Enter (to go from full screen to a window of FSX, a back to full screen...) a few times (usually 3 times), FSX starts going into a window, but it is all black, the sounds cuts for less than a second, then after ~20 seconds FSX SE crashes.
I have Windows 7, and FSX SE is in a dedicated drive D: (so not C:).
This never happened until the last few days: I could use shadowplay, and switch from full screen to a window and back, many many times without problems. I do this to go to the PC and use other applications, change music, answer emails, etc...
If I don't use shadowplay, I can use alt+enter many times without problems.
There was a Nvidia Geforce experience recently, but Nvidia Geforce experience won't allow the use of a previous version, and when in a previous version, if there is a new version, launching Nvidia Geforce experience will update it to the new version!
I wonder if there is a solution to this problem. Has anybody experienced it?
Here are the errors I had so far:

Aha, dang... But I don't see this only at sunset, on a recent London - New York flight in full daylight I saw this all the way!
Yes, me too, during the day, and all the way.
I never managed to get rid of this.

Do you defrag your hard drive?
Thank you, yes it was defragged. I forgot to mention... Solution just below...
Blow your cpu cooler with compressed air, your pc may be throttling back due to a dust build up causing excessive heat.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 2
Thank you kevin7898, you saved me! I dusted my PC and voila! Before: ~7 to 13 FPS, now 60 to 96!!!
It was dusty indeed!
Have you tried a System Restore to 4-9 days ago?
Thank you anyway. IT manager at work thought it was that too, but the removal of dust was the answer.
Conclusion: after McAfee, and Norton Ghost, the other FPS killer is dust!
Thank you all very very much!

FS2004 LOW FPS
If windows update is the only thing that is changed, you should look there... Check what is updated, maybe fs9 don't like new nvidia driver for example, which is now updated automatically btw
Not sure how to check for any new ATI catalyst driver (don't have nvidia)...
I checked in Application Events: there are many 'Performance counters' events for 'for the ASP.NET...' and 'Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile'.........There is also this: 'Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 -- Configuration completed successfully.', and other events like 'Performance counters for the .NETFramework (.NETFramework) service are already in Performance Registry, no need to re-install again'...
Not sure what to make of this.

Hi,
I have a 7 years old PC, and till 8 days ago FS2004 was between 24 and 70 FPS (set to unlimited).
Everything was fine.
But in the last 3 days, the FPS is between 7 and 20! I haven't changed anything. There was a Windows update (I have Win XP, SP3) as usual, and a new iTunes version. That's it.
I don't have McAffee as AV.
The FPS are now about 2.5 lower than 8 days ago and before. It is all the time: no change if the GPS is on or off.
What I can see is that there is a slight delay when clicking buttons: they move ~1/3 of a second after I click them.
I ran my AV, and all is fine.
I haven't found any new processes in Task manager.
I recreated a new FS9.cfg, but no change.

I am not a pilot, but I have been flying Cessnas and Pipers Pa 28 several time. Basically, the pilot did the take offs and landings, I flew the rest in-between. Once Piper PA 28 in England on a very windy day (23 September 2007; for those who want to check the weather that day!). About 5 flight in Cessnas and Piper over the Alps in Switzerland.
"Random pitch" is easily taken care of with attention of the pilot, ie trimming. Actually, I find real life GA aircraft stable, but I do enjoy the balancing in the air.
