  1. +1 Also, cutting to the chase...... While the Milviz 737 is not yet completely finished, (there are frequent Hot-Fixes, which will eventually lead to a SP), even as it is, with some functionality not yet working, it is still far more functional than the CS, or Just Flight 737s. VC is far better, optional DX11 VC Lighting is now EXCEPTIONAL, and what is completed works as expected. While there are some feature yet to be completed,( most of which also don't work in any competitors "Steam Gauge" 737s,) the plane is still readily flyable, and the plane is still in "active development", to complete what is missing. Unlike the other "Completed" 737s,( That claim to be Finished, and will probably never have their many Bugs corrected), the MilViz is getting better and better each week. Also, during this time, you have the unique opportunity, to contribute to what it will end up being, by making suggestions etc, on their forum. No, it is not a PMDG 737NGX or PMDG777 level of detail, but it is far more detailed and advanced than any of the other "Steam Gauge" 737s out there. My Advice... If you want a good "Steam Gauge" 737, get the Milviz 737-200 NOW, and you can actively contribute to it's final development. If you delay, and wait till the SP comes out, you may loose the opportunity to get corrected anything you find later, that "BUGS" you. The only NEGATIVE to getting the Milviz 737-200, is that if you have the CS 737, or Just Flight 737, you will probably never want to go back to them, and they will end up rotting in your hanger !!.
  2. GREAT Video -- quality is outstanding. Shame about the Audio - or lack of it. Watching a Mouse pointer click around the screen, without any commentary from the pilot as to what they are doing, makes for a disappointing video, compared with some other recent examples. Maybe you would consider dubbing an informative audio track onto this excellent video footage ?
  3. While it seemed to be amazing that he was at the controls of a 737, there was really no danger, as the qualified pilot was there, to take over at a moments notice. What was more interesting was the accelerated program to solo in the smaller plane, where he was by himself. Where did he Solo ? it seemed to look like a old, deserted ENORMOUS runway !! Something he could not miss to land on !! Any yes, of course I am Green with envy !!!
  4. Out with a big fat golden handshake no doubt... with FS the furthest thing from his mind.
  5. To to to the bottom of this, I still think the key thing you need to do is find out what ADDON is calling msvbvm60.dll Once you know that, you will be a lot closer to a solution.
  6. And you have every right to disagree ... but the reality is that PMDG probably higher propriety things to deal with, at the moment, than spending what may a considerable amount of extra development time, in reducing a spool up settling time by a couple of seconds, and to do it CORRECTLY, (not just FUDGE the Gauge) If PMDG was to announce, that they were delaying the release of the 777, because Arjen had persuaded them it was more important to correct a minor issue in the 737, I think you would get lynched !! I do not think, by now, anyone is saying that what you have proposed in incorrect, but at this late stage in the release of the 737, it does not seem to be that critical, and is only causes an issue during one small part of a flight. Also, that fact that nobody from PMDG has come back to you and said anything, is probably good sign .. at least they have not said they are NOT going to look into it. A case of "No news is good news"
  7. As previously stated by other.. "probably not worth the time and effort to need a change", and I don't think anyone is actually expecting PMDG to change anything either. However, it is a "Technically Interesting" thing to discuss in an "Aviation Forum", and I find it amazing that so many people are contributing from real world experiences. Apart from a few "negative" posts, from those who seem to thing they can dictate what other choose to discuss, this is probably one of the most enjoyable and informative post to follow.
  8. Begs the question -- WHY is Intel using such a poor performance Thermal Compound within their CPU chips ??
  9. I do not believe that native FSX uses VB anywhere. So it must be an addon that is causing msvbvm60.dll to be evoked, and run incorrectly ? Try backing up dll.xml and exe.sml and deleting originals, or just renaming the originals ( add a .orig extension maybe) Do the same with fsx, cfg. (so FSX build a new clean one on restart). Try FSX then, loading say the MS default C172. IF that works, you can start adding stuff back in, till you find out what is causing the issue.
  10. I believe that P3D does not have the "TRUST" screen. So any addons you install, will automatically be "TRUSTED"
  11. Even when P3D2 has DX11, developers will still need to learn how to leverage the new features of DX11, so that they can do, for example, the DX11 lighting effects you see in the Milviz 737. It won't just Magically happen !!
  12. Very few, if you purchase the full COMMERCIAL License.
  13. If you have a strong interest in the technical side of control system, in Flight Simulators, there is a good article about the development of the Autopilot in FlightGear. While this is not the Engine Control System of a 737NGX, it will give you some idea of the potential complexities of such systems, and how complex they can be to model. http://www.geoffair.com/fg/site/Docs/XMLAutopilot/ :p0504:
  14. +1 It would help if those responding to something posted, actually read and understand what others have said before, before they launch into disputing what has been previously said. Could cut down on a lot of disagreements !! An NO, no matter want you do with the air files, you cannot change the basic code algorithms that FSX is using, when it uses the air files as parameters for its engine modeling calculations. The bottom line, is that FSX's modeling of Turbine engines does not provide the flexibility to simulate this sort of detail. If you want the N2 gauge to follow a profile, that the air file cannot provide, then the N2 gauge would need to be "programmed" to "appear" to be indicating the characteristic that are required. Same goes for EGT, to accurately "simulate" Hot Starts, and Compressor Stalls.
  15. Limitations of the air file, and FSX's modeling of Turbine engines. There is no way to modify the air files, to achieve the spool up dynamics you have so accurately measured in the real plane. There are so many limitations in FSX's modeling of a Turbine engine, that this is really one of the more minor deviations from real world. The fact that even a Real World 737 Captain did not notice the difference, would tend to imply that there are more important things to correct, than the N1 spool up characteristics, In the Sim, I would just pretend that my engine needed some minor adjustment at its next service, and maybe even an ECM software update. Could be worse -- your batteries could be melting down and catching on fire !!
  16. One company that MIGHT be able to do something significant in the FS market is GOOGLE. They have the Earth Mapping technology. They have more money than they know what to do with. They are innovators. If they decided to get into the WORLD SIMULATOR market, then a spin off "could" be a Flight Simulation. The problem with Flight Simulation, is that is a small market compared with other markets that have a higher ROI, with less initial investment. However, by the time the world's economic situation has improved, there will be so many other "distractions" filling peoples life, that a time consuming hobby like FS, will only appeal to a diminishing population. 7 years ago, a $60 Flight Sim seemed "reasonable" Today, just a single plane can cost from $50 - $100. Is it so unreasonable to not expect a new Simulator to be $200+ In that case, if later versions of P3D advance to better graphics, and eventually 64 bit, that may well be the future. Currently, for $200, anyone can purchase P3D with little to no restrictions on it's use. BTW: The argument about P3d's flight model being crude, is becoming a non- issue... as it is becoming increasing easy with each new version of P3D, to use an external Flight Model Engine. ( already being done by some developers in FSX ). Microsoft appears to be out of the FS market -- while initially painful, in the long term, this is probably the best thing that ever happened to FSX and future FS development.
  17. Kattz, Most interesting reading .. thanks for taking the time to describe your Real World experiences, in such detail. Love this technical stuff .. and it is amazing what Real World aviation information, one can get from a Flight Sim Forum !
  18. 6pm Easter Friday .. Avsim Video streaming -- there is a MJC8 Q400 being flown LIVE. You can text chat with the pilot as he flies (and his Instructor) http://www.twitch.tv/captiainaviation

OK, let me re-phrase my question. If the plane is "dark", someone has to turn on the 1st light ? How is this done, what sort of lighting is 1st turned on, and where is that switch etc. Does the 1st person on the plane, have to use a Flashlight and find their way to the cockpit ?? Is any such light, on a timer, so it turns off, if left on for too long, so not to flatten the battery. ? Are there lights that always go on when cabin Doors are opened ? (ie like a car ?) While is probably more a real world question, than a FSX simulation question -- I am just Curious, and I would guess there are some here that have the answers ...
  21. Just "poping up" a a new "view" as a separate window, is a built in feature of FSX. Easy to do -- anyone can do that at any time. Putting a view (ie camera) within a Gauge in the VC is not easy to program ( it is "outside the box" of the FSX SDK). That's not to say it is not possible to do (it has been achieved in a few other planes), but it takes significant extra development work. Edit: As previously mentioned, for example, TacPack is one addon that has developed this feature.

AMAZING video /// Thanks Kyle. Please forgive a complete 777 noob, so one question. At the end, when you did the shutdown, and finally turned off the battery, why was the cockpit still lit ? What did I miss ?? Which raises the question -- how does the pilot see to get in and out of the plane, at night, when everything is switched off ? Lighting, that is independent of the battery switch, ? and if so, how is that controlled ?
