  1. I'm three weeks into Prepar3D v4.x and four weeks into using my new PC - first Windows machine in 14 years! I have an MSI Gaming Pro Carbon MB, 16 gigs of G.Skill Flare 3200 memory, Samsung SSD and EVGA 1080FTW. I have the Acer Predator 27" IPS w/G-Sync. Wasn't sure if that would help with FlightSims but I intend to do some other gaming so that's the why behind that. Initially (base install) I was hitting 70-90 FPS. I have added ORBX, AS/ASCA, Drzewiecki scenery for NY Aiports, Milviz F-4 and Beaver. I am extremely satisfied EXCEPT when I hit the metro airports such as KEWR, KJFK. At first I was down to FPS in the teen's. I tried numerous changes to the settings without any luck and then changed Affinity Mask to 4092 (there was no entry in the .cfg file). I'm now hovering around 30 FPS in those areas. Just looking for any tips on further settings/optimization. Still very much learning my way around Windows/PC's here. Perhaps killing some background processes would help... I've posted screenshots of my current P3Dv4.x settings...
  2. I thought I'd group all my questions into one post. First off: MVAMS or ACM? They both configure (mostly the same) settings? Second: En-Route Navigation. I default to 'Ready To Fly' and have also selected Auto Position Update and Auto Waypoint Sequence options. I have watched a YouTube tutorial on the INS; not having much luck here. I can navigate to a VORTAC whose channel I manually input, and that is about it. I don't see a Target 2 position on the INS?? (S Model) Approaches: With the ILS sytem powered on, and a correct frequency set via MVAMS, I get the correct morse identifier and also course deviation needle on the HSI. On my attitude indicator I get glideslope info but the localizer needle is off to the left. Third: Autopilot. I know it is a basic system but I cannot get it to follow heading or to switch from couple to engage. I read about a test switch but have not been able to locate. Fourth: Turn Radius with NWS. I have NWS mapped to a joystick button... I can see the noswheel turn, but even with diff. braking the radius seems limited (esp for carrier ops). What I see externally is that I can pivot the nosewheel to an almost 90 degree off center position but as soon as I start moving the angle decreases quite a bit. The rudder moves as well, which I don't think should happen - but perhaps that is just a programming issue. Thanks in advance...
  3. No worries... awesome piece of software you have here!
  4. Ok, so you gave me enough of a clue and I think this is resolved. I had to go into VFX Central > Preferences > Registry Editor and UNCHECK the box next to P3Dv2...
  5. I have/had - this did not clear the error.
  6. Well I am dead in the water with ChasePlane. I can't get the camera to move around at all, and I lose my hat switch functionality as soon as it loads. I hope this is all related to the above error message...
  7. http://tinypic.com/r/20p909e/9 The error message references P3D v2??
  8. I am getting the error message that CP can't access this cfg file on start. I am running the program as an administrator...
  9. I would have thought there’d be more discussion? There must be other opinions, techniques?
  10. I’m using Saitek’s X-52 system; I’ve dusted it off after years of non-use. I’d like to be able to use several profiles: one for small g/a aircraft, one for PMDG, and one for the Milviz F-4. The X-52 stick has a profile selector which I think works only if you use their software to set up a profile. There’s the built in configuration that Prepar3D uses and Milviz has a configuration tool as well. Oh... and FSUIPC which I don’t have yet. So what’s the best method to achieve what I want?
  11. As you are probably aware, RNAV refers to point-to-point navigation. In the US, RNAV has become more or less synonymous with GPS. There are several types of GPS based approaches utilized when the instrument approach procedures for a particular runway are labeled ‘RNAV’. These are LNAV, LNAV/VNAV, and LPV. LNAV provides localizer type lateral guidance and uses an MDA. Accuracy does not increase the closer you get to the runway, so higher minima is required. LNAV/VNAV is like LNAV except GPS provides altitude information so minimums should be lower. LPV provides ILS precision based on GPS position and WAAS altitude data. Accuracy increases as you approach the runway; this is the “best choice” for IFR operations, when available and your bird is properly equipped.
  12. My new build uses a Ryzen 1600X, EVGA 1080 and as of now an LG 29 ultra wide which is 1080p. I want to move to 1440p; budget is $600 although I’d love to spend less. I’m eyeing the Acer Predator 271 and wondering if I’ll miss the ultra wide? Gsync might be nice but I have no clue how useful it really may be in P3D or other games... I guess general thoughts and possible monitor recommendations are appreciated. It doesn’t appear that I can swing ultra wide with Gsync...
  13. I tend to go for short hops. I'd like to explore various areas around the continental U.S. as well Quebec, Nova Scotia. I lean towards GA and military. I've added FreeMeshX and am in the process of adding Adam Mill's textures as well.
  14. I think I mis-spoke out of ignorance. I need the Global Base in order to use the OpenClass LC for North America. I appreciate the input so far. I have REX Essentials + HD from years ago and so I paid to license it in Prepar3D, and I am also going to install FreeMesh to get started!
  15. But do I have to have ORBX Global installed to use their regions?
  16. I built my system yesterday and am enthralled with Prepar3D so far. Naturally, I'd like to up the ante on the visuals. I am looking for general recommendations on where to start and what to purchase. I used REX Essentials Plus years ago on FSX, that is my only experience. I believe I need a mesh product AND a texture product?
  17. Great catch. Alternative MOBO recommendations, if you don't mind please?I would assume just switch to the ATX version of the same board unless there's a better one at that price point.
  18. Ok so I've got everything in the cart and ready to go. Plan on using existing 250GB WD drive and Radeon GPU (4500 I think) until I get more cash. This was a budget built for a system that will only do two things: run FSX and Xplane. I use REX, PMDG 737, and various other add on aircraft. I'm a pro pilot so I don't anticipate spending more than 10 hours per month in the sim. If you think I've $%&@ up with my components, or know of cheaper ones that will work just as/nearly well... please speak up. I'm a Mac devotee and have been trying to school myself on PCs. Major considerations were upgradability and SLI ability at some point. Thanks!!!
  19. I do. Going to use my WD hard drive but need everything else. I know it's a tight fit but money is not there for much more.Currently using a core duo 2.4 ghz Dell xps 210 with REX and things aren't too bad until I use PMDG's 737 or Captain Sim. I'd like something I could upgrade the CPU when $$$ is better. Thanks.
