  1. Ben, I am really enjoying this series. Just finished the video on flight planning and, while I use Simbrief a lot, I learned a ton from Capt. Ashcroft. Can't wait to see the others. Great job on a fine series!
  2. I've settled on UTX lights and really like the way my nights look now. There are recommended settings by NickN in the UTX forums and they really do make a big difference.
  3. Still holding my breath.....
  4. Does anyone have a set of alternative passenger sounds for GSX? I have a good replacement ground crew voice set but looking for better boarding sounds (especially the hellos). I checked the library to no avail. Thanks!
  5. Yup, I love it and the new Alpha is even better.
  6. Thanks for the tips, guys. I installed the 2 new DIMMs and selected the XMP profile 1 in BIOS which was the profile I wanted. When I check the 'Memory' tab in CPU-Z I get this: DRAM frequency: 1199.8 MHz FSB:DRAM: 1:9 CAS Latency: 10 tRCD: 12 tRP: 12 tRAS: 31 CR: 2T Under the 'SPD' tab, in the Memeory slot section I get: Slot #1: Max bandwidth - 667 MHz Slot #2: " " 800 MHz Slot #3: " " 667 MHz Slot #4: " " 800 MHz I'm not sure what to make of those readings. So, I am running 4 x 4GB DDR 3 2400 MHz RAM 10-12-12-31 1.65V (all 4 are G. Skill Trident X)
  7. Currently, in my AsRock BIOS, the XMP profile is set to 'Auto' but I also see an 'XMP Profile 1' and 'XMP Profile 2'. I have no clue what those profiles are for. The auto setting is what was recommended when I first purchased the mobo and is what I have been using with 2 DIMMs.
  8. I currently run 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) of 2400 MHz DDR-3 G Skill Trident X RAM in the B slots. I just purchased an additional 8 GB of the exact same RAM with same timings. Do I need to change anything in the BIOS before inserting this RAM? Should I add it to the A slots or move my old RAM to the A slots and put this new RAM in the B slots? Anything else I need to do before adding this RAM? What is the best process to add new RAM? Maybe I am overthinking this, but just wanted to make sure I am not missing anything. I just purchased a Noctua CPU cooler so I know I can fill all 4 slots now, just FYI. Thanks!
  9. What he said. A GTX 1070 is about $400. Your CPU should get you through another good year or two. However, you should consider upgrading your CPU cooler. Like you, I have the Hyper 212 EVO and, while I do like it, am upgrading to a Noctua NH-15S, which is probably the best $80 you can spend. It performs on par with (and even better than) many liquid coolers, and you can still use it when you do eventually upgrade your CPU.
  10. Keven, Just purchased ChasePlane yesterday and so far I am enjoying the heck out of it. Setting different views in the VC is so easy and smooth. I'm really excited for the future of this utility. One question: When outside the airplane I would like to move around the aircraft using the center mouse button (just like inside the VC) but I am finding that I can only move side to side. I am unable to move up or down. I apologize if this has already been addressed, but is this a known "bug" that is on the list to be addressed or have I missed something in the settings? Keep up the great work. Todd
  11. Interesting article, Bob. After reading it I, discovered this article, which is pretty cool: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2035700/how-displayport-multi-streaming-delivers-new-levels-of-multi-monitor-madness.html
  12. What do you use? Which is better and why? Would I see any difference/benefit going from HDMI to DisplayPort? Or is this just a Ford vs Chevy kind of thing (to use an American automobile analogy), i.e. each has its own following?
  13. I have a full size Corsair Carbide case, so it looks like it'll fit just fine.
  14. I've definitely decided on the Noctua cooler. Right now I am running my CPU at 4.5 GHz and I don't plan to push it further. I just want better temp control. Thanks for the RAM advice.
  15. If you like the Q400, Norway is a great region to fly. And between Orbx and Jo Erlend Sund, Norway airports are getting lots of love. Think challenging approaches to short runways over beautiful terrain in overcast conditions. Good stuff. Todd
  16. This year I am upgrading my computer but I am hoping to get another good year or two before I upgrade my CPU/Mobo. Currently I am running an i7 3770k at 4.5 GHz, 8BG DDR3 2400 GHz RAM, GTX 770, Hyper 212 EVO Upgrades I am considering: 1) GTX 1070-already purchased 2) Noctua DH-15S CPU cooler 3) 16 GB DDR3 RAM I am wondering if the RAM upgrade makes sense. I know 32-bit limits me right now but if P3D goes to 64-bit in the next year, I want to be ready. Is the RAM upgrade a worthwhile "investment"? Any other thoughts on this system getting me through another 2 years? Thanks
  17. You can get a GTX 1070 for around $400 on Amazon. Just watch prices regularly as they fluctuate.
  18. I think there is reasonable caution to take with anything that costs $1500-2000, especially when it depends on a large cooling block or pump circulating liquid. I suppose both can send a lot of money down the drain quickly if proper precautions aren't taken. I sincerely appreciate everyone's opinions. Please don't let this discussion get out of hand and turn personal. Everyone has to choose what is best for himself (or herself) with the info they have. I'm thankful we have a lot of experienced and intelligent people on these forums who are willing to help out their fellow simmers. Let's not forget this is a hobby meant to be enjoyed. I've certainly learned a lot in this thread, so thanks to everyone!
  19. I recommend spending some time shopping around for components. MicroCenter is good but I would also check Amazon and Newegg. When I built my computer 3 years ago, I purchased parts from each outlet and saved a lot of money that way. This year I am upgrading my GPU and CPU cooler and just bought a GTX 1070 on Amazon for less than $400. Prices fluctuate more dramatically than the stock market, so I would be patient.
  20. TFDi 717 for me Isn't the AS CRJ still stuck at T-minus 9 days a year and a half later?
  21. Giving life to an old thread rather than starting a new one.... After a few months with AS16, I'm curious about experiences of those who upgraded from ASN. I tried the AS16 Demo a month ago and personally didn't see enough to make me want to upgrade. But that was only after a handful of flights.
