  1. Gentlemen,

Whilst I didn't want to hear it, I think you were both right. Not so much over controlling but more so incorrect use of the trim...I was in the middle of typing my rebuke when I thought I better go and do some testing before I argue with you. I have found what I was doing is rather than progressively trimming as the airspeed bled off, I was simply trimming too much...ammature mistake, thanks for helping me realize what I was doing...a bit too used to the MD-11.

Sim pilot since 2008, always learning....I need to go and have a good hard look at myself...

    Cheers

    John

  2. Captains,

When I disconnect the autopilot to handfly my approach I get big variations in vertical speed and can not get it to hold a steady descent profile....I'm aware of the fbw trim indicator and I have it positioned for my approach speed but no matter what I do it wont sit steady...it'll drop the nose and all of a sudden im descending at 1500fpm so I intervene and pull the nose up a little and it then reduces the sink rate to the point where i end up high..so basically i end up wallowing up and down the glideslope...anyone have a similar issue? Do i have a bug..need a fresh install?

Just for comparison, I have no problem in hand flying and getting good steady descent profiles in the 737 and MD-11

    Thanks in advance

    John Davis

  3. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. When I bought the MD-11 back in 2010 i think, I also found the TSS sound pack online and bought it straight away....thought it was cool and I think I made a similar post on this forum, one of the PMDG staff also advised me that the sounds were not accurate and that the sounds in the PMDG MD-11 cockpit were correct.

I have recently bought a new gaming PC and still fly the MD-11 and no longer have the TSS sound pack, I'm not sure what I was thinking before, but the sounds that PMDG have recorded are amazing! Particularly during engine start, I get a very nice deep basey rumble as N2 builds! Absolutely love it, and also the sounds during the cruise, what sounds like the wind over the fuselage is much more enjoyable than hearing the TSS sounds constantly adjusting the engine speed. So I say, great work PMDG! Again, just my two cents. Blue skies to all and bring on the 777!

  4. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents, if you haven't already bought it after all these positive reviews! Here's another one. The PMDG MD-11 was the second Airliner addon I bought, after the LevelD 767. I've had it since 2010 and have not stopped flying it since, I got bored with the LEVELD 767 although it is very well done...but for some reason the MD-11 still captures my interest! It is great to hand fly and as someone else suggested, get the AoA flight training vids and you'll be set! Hand flying VORDME ARC and visual approaches in this bird are just so rewarding! Happy days

  5. G'day everyone, I have had this problem too...aircraft seems to run out of thrust and therefore airspeed begins to bleed off...usually above fl200...even disabling A/T and manually advancing thrust levers makes no diff...i have to pitch down to build up airspeed.....funny thing i have notice....i have another addon, the LevelD Boeing 767, it also happens on this....now the Boeing 737....i don't know if it is something i am doing wrong with the Boeing product because I have never had this problem with the PMDG MD-11...regards John

  6. Do you mean by adjusting that in the FMC? Just have a small other question... I have a laggy computer so it explains. In the exteriorview I have about 20 FPS locked, but when changing to VC, I have about 12 FPS for about 10 seconds, and then it goes down to about 8 FPS. 10 FPS is still fine for me, but below that number, it becomes annoying. Why can my computer handle the VC for a few seconds at 12-15 FPS and then drops to 8? All textures are already loaded so it doesn't have anything to do with that I guess. Have done everything explained in the intro, so guess there should be another explanation... Thanks in advance!!
Yup, go to your FMC, press menu, then PMDG setup, then options, then performance ...you'll see your frames for VC on the right...type 99 in scratch pad and then lines select key r1,r2,r3,r4....give it ago...see what happens

  7. G'day everyone, just wanted to share another option for improving fps.I spent a bit of time trying different settings within FSX...(I guess all comps will be different, also set the target fps to 99 in fsx settings), added to that I have also set in the ngx fmc...menu-options-performance (i think) the 3d targets to 99..all 4 of them...(i left the 2d at 15)This seems to have made the best improvement along with the fsx settings...I am now getting an improvement of about 5-6 fps which doesn't sound like much but it is enough to make it run smoothly....this is at night time with all lighting on plus HUG plus both capt and FO displays working and approaching the runway.Hope this helps some others.I'd almost given up hope and parked the plane until i get some new hardware...but not now! time to stand em up!!

  8. G'day Guys and Gals,Everyone seems to be reporting improvements in Frame rates over previous pmdg stuff, however the NGX VC seems to be sucking my frames down alot....i usually get around 20 and now im down to around 8 in the VC.The PMDG md-11 runs well on my computer.....any suggestions to help improve it? I've tried lowering all my scenery and traffic but no real improvment....Thanks , John

  9. Cool thread! My Qantas MD-11 is hangared at the moment, getting ready for my first long haul flight EHAM-KCVG on Cross the Pond, very much looking forward to the flight! I have spent a fair amount of time planning for the event, hopfully all goes well. usually I fly EHAM-EDDF or EDDM , short haul I know but there is usually plenty of ATC at those two airports..always good fun!

  10. Actually, sorry Ryan, scratch that i figured it out....easy really....thankyou mate thats great!

The lights issue is well known - REX and those addons are modifying the way the default landing light works and that's what causes the issue. We used the stock lights. You'll need to restore your backup in REX to place the default light back in and then go into the options and tell it to stop replacing landing light textures.
