  1. I love the plane but I too was disappointed to find out that the "speed" hold mode was using the default FSX autothrottle to hold speed, and not adjusting pitch to do so.

This is what Carenado were doing on their earlier planes - even the little SR22 piston had an autothrottle! ........ It removes credibility from an otherwise great product IMHO.

But it's not stopping me enjoying this F27 - I just don't go near the SPEED hold mode, and I've marked the AutothrottleAvailable=1 entry in the cfg, to 0.

Thanks for the suggestion, does that disable it entirely so that there is no risk of accidentally activating the airspeed mode?

  2. That answers my question above

Don't hold your breath waiting.  It's not an easy fix, in fact I wouldn't call it a bug but a deliberate decision by the developers to keep things simple (using the FSX autopilot capabilities).

Well, in my opinioun they should have stayad away from it entirely instead, because as it is now it is entirely unusable. Either you climb at full power or you stay level on a low power setting.

  3. I belive I have found a bug: While in airspeed hold mode the autopilot takes control over the power levers, which is incorrect as far as I understand it. It should only modify pitch to maintain the selected airspeed. JF has been notified and hopefully it will be solved soon.

  4. Bought and did a short flight from my home field and back. Took of at MTOW and the 2600 feet runway was just long enough for a safe takeoff. Regarding ground resistance I thought it seemed pretty realistic. However, the Darts do, as someone said earlier, require some time to spool up. The first time I applied way to much power so the aircraft set of a lot faster than I wanted it to. Second time was much smoother, just give the engines a few moments to do their thing. The aircraft does not move at idle thrust, at least not at MTOW, and the brakes can easily hold full power.

System wise it's much better than earlier JF offerings, just about everything is clickable and all switches have sounds, something I really like and earlier products didn't have. The F27 flies well and feels really heavy - just as I imagine the real thing does. She is extremely stable. The landing was the trickiest part, even at flight idle the engines produce a lot of thrust.  It was a bit tricky to get it down onto the runway, you need to be slow early on to put her down properly. Ground roll with full braking was about 500 meters which is the same as the manual says.

So far I'm very happy with this thing.

  5. Is the F27 a STOL airliner? I am curious to know what runway length is required for this aircraft in an empty configuration (plenty of fuel, but no passengers or cargo).

Just over 1000 meters (3000 feet) at MTOW according to what I've read, so absolutely a STOL airliner.

  6. All the primary flight instruments and the most important engine gauges are operational (manifold pressure, RPM, etc), the rest of them are however not yet working.

The simulator uses FSX so the grapichs are up to modern standards, I don't know how it looked when the sim was new but I guess it was mostly a procedure trainer back then.

  7. At the Västerås Aviation Museum in Västerås, Sweden, there is a unique Convair 440 simulator. The simulator dates back to the 1970s and was used for crew training at Linjeflyg and later SAS Scandinavian Airlines. Today the simulator is open for the public. The museum also have a DC-10 simulator and a J-35 "Draken" sim. Not everything is operating system-wise yet, though, but the feeling is great. If you like to fly classic propliners, and are going to Sweden someday, make sure to visit the museum, which also has a large and unique collection of aircraft on display.

Here is me, flying the runway 26 approach into Innsbruck airport, LOWI. Sorry for the bad landing...

  8. Thanks for the replies, guys. I got the Wilco one, a bit annoying to have to pay for several Airbus models when it's just the A340 I'm interested in. Anyway, it's decent, at least it has a functioning FMS. Most of the overhead panel is dead, but I think it's flyable at least.

  9. I'm not usually into Airbuses, but I recently saw the A340 for the first time in real life and was impressed by its size and graceful lines. I've searched the web for a good FSX version, but I can only find older versions. One from CLS, one from Wilco. I have very little experience with either company. Is any of these good? Or is there anything else in progress?

  10. A2A Boeing 377. The only well-made propliner for FSX. With the "Captain of the Ship" addon you get an entire virtual crew to help you out. She is a complex beast, but your flight engineer is there to help you if you like. The engines are complex and require careful handling to avoid fouling, overheating or damage. Cruising at 325 knots TAS, you'll get where you want to go quickly, too! :)

  11. I've recently started flying the Q400 more regularly and I'm really getting the hang of things now. I found it hard to land in the beginning, but after realising I need to keep power on all the way down I have improved my landings a lot. One thing still bugs me though: power settings in cruise.

The 850 RPM setting is the suggested one for cruise as far as I understand things, but this actually yelds a higher fuel flow than 900 RPM. Also, as I understand it, the power levers should be all the way forward from the start of the takeoff roll until TOD. Also, at this power setting, I get a cruise speed of 220 KIAS, or 336 KTAS, at FL260 which is a bit short of the promised 360 KTSA. Fuel flow varies between 1010 and 1030 PPH without any power changes. Why is that?

So, could someone with more experience shed some light on this, and which settings results in best cruise speed, best range etc.

    Best wishes,

    Björn Lillpers

  12. Jag fick ett liknande problem och då hade ett annat addon installerat en äldre version av FSUIPC som inte fungerade med PMDG737. Testa att ladda ner senaste versionen och installera härifrån: http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

Translation: Advised him to update his FSUIPC as I had a similar problem caused by another addon installing an older version, which caused the PMDG 737 to stop working properly.
