  1. Today I ran a test with ADE open and P3D running. With only one fan remaining I watched the GPU temps climb to 95 degrees C and then lost my nerve and shut it down. Any other monitor tests I have run don't show anomolies. Supposedly my new fans have been shipped from China but who knows how long it will take to get them here. I'll stay away from high GPU usage until then.

    Still looking for suggestions for a newish GPU for my existing mobo.

    Regards,

  2. I'm late to this party but FWIW when I bought my Costco Cyberpower in 2016, I was able to upgrade the specs and still got their warranty. The only thing I've replaced is some of the default case fans and maybe my graphics card is now failing. The $899 loss leader special is going to have cheap components but that's not the fault of Cyberpower. My build as a little over $2000 eight years ago.

  3. I was designing an airport in ADE and switching back and forth to P3D4.5 as I jockeyed objects into position to match the photoscenery.  I noticed a smell similar to that hot electronic component smell. I ran the Intel processor tool and the mobo came up with no faults or problems. Also it's never been overclocked.

    The next day when I booted up I heard a thumping sound that I later determined to be one of the two 75mm fans in the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card starting and stopping (pulsing??). I removed the card (it wasn't very dusty as I housekeep my machine frequently and pulled the suspect fan and immediately ordered two identical ones for $20.

    I'm on a very fixed income so I can't afford a modern build. My setup runs 4.5 really well.  I was wondering if I should order a new graphics card before the computer completely crashes?

    If so, what would be recommended? Maybe a slight upgrade that isn't too expensive?

    Machine specs as follows:

    ·  CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i7-6700K 4.00GHZ 8MB (Skylake)

    ·  CPU / Processor Cooling Fan: Corsair Hydro Series H60 120mm Liquid CPU Cooling System

    ·  Motherboard: ASUS Z170-K ATX w/ USB 3.1, 3 PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1, 1 SATA Express, 6 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2

    RAM: 16GB (8GBx2) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200

    ·  Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 (Maxwell)

    ·  Power Supply: 600 Watts - EVGA 600B 80 PLUS BRONZE

    Thanks in advance for your time.

    I never bought the TE California scenery because I have read complaints about the coloration not being good. TE Florida,Oregon and Washington are nice.

    I'd like to followup on this comment. ^^^

    I'm an old VFR SoCal pilot IRL. I mainly fly bush planes low level in P3D 4.5. Photoscenery would be helpful and enjoyable but I seem to remember some complaints when TE SoCal was released. On my aging machine I have been running SoCal and NorCal regions quite successfully. I'd love to add TE SoCal but I don't want to waste $23 USD or bog down my machine.

    Any feedback from actual owners of TE SoCal would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm running:

    Intel I7-6700 Skylake at 4.0 ghz

    16gb DDR4

    GeForce GTX 970

  5. I am looking for a source of a more up to date or complete ATC voicepack. Some of the callsigns or telephonies that I would like would be "AirAm", "Missi", "Lifeguard", "Medevac", "Dust Off", "Air Evac", "Copter", "Coast Guard" etc.

    Will EditVoicePack supply what I am looking for? I had the free version in FSX but I could never master the cut and paste of creating custom phrases?

    FAA ref:

    Callsigns vs. Telephonies:

    • Callsigns are alpha-numeric phrases such as "November One Seven Two Seven Victor"
      • Callsigns are most common with general aviation
    • Telephonies are phrases connected to a callsign and flight number such as "Delta 1199"
      • Telephonies are most common in commercial aviation

  6. I love the C47/DC3/Dakota freeware generously provided by the Jahns/Metzger et al. It flies great, I love the copilot dialogue feature but one thing bugs me. The F9>F12 function key views are non standard. I like to see F9 for virtual cockpit, F11 for locked spot, and F12 for top down.

    I'm pretty good with editing .cfg files and less good with .xml but I'd like to fix this. Does anyone have a file that would accomplish my goal or at least point me to the process necessary to do it myself?

    Thanks for listening.

  7. OK I was able to figure it out myself.

    Here's what worked for me:

    //--------------------------------------------------------
    [Window??]
    Background_color=0,0,0
    size_mm=320,285
    window_size_ratio=1.000
    position=2
    visible=0
    ident=GPS_PANEL
    type=SPECIAL
    //window_size= 0.710, 0.552
    //window_pos= 0.290, 0.480

  8. paging N4gix ...

    Can you shed any light on this anomaly? Your popups in the MV Beech Baron work great. Is there some I hack I can do to make this functional? I've tried the few tricks I know and nothing seems to work for me.

    I'm running P3D 4.5

  9. Although the tool tip has labeled the default MilViz GNS530/430 as a pop-up, I can't get it to work. There doesn't seem to be a view that features it either. I love the bird and she flies sweet but I'd love to have the pop-up. Oddly enough, the Turbo Otter pops up the whole radio panel.

  10. I always felt the Beaver was one of the best default Airplanes in the original FSX. I bought a Turbo Otter from MilViz but never bonded with it. I was excited to see the Beaver was offered as one of the generous "freebies" from Blackbird.

    I have a problem in that once the revs are advanced above 2300 rpm there's an irritating metallic banging sound. Has anyone else experienced it?

    I thought maybe I had screwed up the download or gotten a corrupted file so I uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple of times but I can't make the banging go away. Any thoughts would be welcome.🤨

  11. Yes it's MilViz freebies that are giving me problems.

    Rogen if you could post an example of your addon.xml file for Effects or Sound it would be helpful for me to emulate.

    Do you create a special folder in the P3D root drive for these files to reside? Is that what the "H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft" path is about? Is the H drive (in your case) where your addon Aircraft reside? What purpose does the "\0.1" serve?

  12. I've only had intermittent luck moving addon aircraft from my P3D root drive to another drive.

    It's likely user error rather than an inherent problem with the system. Is there any downside to using a junction link instead of an xml file to "point" P3D to an alternate location?

    I've used this system in FSX without a hitch.
