  1. Well, first of all, even though you have DirectX 11, you still have DirectX 9. Different versions co-exist with each other on the system, as some games will require one version while others will require another. Was what you installed the end-user runtime? Go here: My link If that's what you already tried, I don't know what's wrong.

  2. I think an i5-2500k would be about as good for FSX, but it's possible that Flight will be able to take advantage of the Hyperthreading of the 2600k. And if you're building for Flight, you might want a bit better video card. Maybe spend around $250 for that.If you want to cut back somewhere, I'd get a motherboard for under $200. Look over the features, because that's a big factor in the cost. If you don't need stuff like more SATA ports (note that even lower end boards have 6) or extra PCIe lanes for SLI/Crossfire, you don't need to go high-end there.

  3. Okay, you're right. Yes, there is a small possibility that Valve could go under, and that they wouldn't release a patch to unlock the games as they said they would. And maybe no company would step in to take over the 30 million accounts. And perhaps none of Valve's competitors would be concerned that not acquiring Steam and allowing all those purchased games to disappear would affect consumer confidence in digital distribution. Yes, I suppose all of that is possible.Happy? :)

  4. Even if Valve did go under, I think it's more likely that Steam would get sold off to a company that would take over the accounts and continue to sell and support the games. It may not be as good as how Valve handles it, but I doubt the games would suddenly become worthless.Anything could happen though. MLB.com ripped off some customers a few years ago when they decided to change the DRM to a different service. Broadcasts purchased under the old system could no longer be viewed.

  5. Ah, so you're saying, that most people can't achieve awesome visuals in FSX and that's why they tend to think the graphics aren't so great. I wasn't twisting your words either. Anyway, about the clothes and make-up, I'm betting that if you love flying as I do, in a few years your priorities will change from a high end wardrobe, to flight lessons, or maybe a new PC so you can suspend disbelief in the sim. At least that's what happened with me.
I think she's saying that people who aren't into flight sims are expecting the graphics quality of a FPS. Even at max detail settings and the fastest processor, FSX can't compare to a modern FPS, especially closer to the ground. Those of us that know what goes into a flight sim understand that it's a different animal and it can't have that kind of detail (yet), but more casual gamers may not understand that.

  6. Multi-billion dollar industries don't just disappear overnight, so the rental analogy is quite flawed. I have games on Steam that I purchased over 5 years ago and have re-installed numerous times over the years, as well as games that were originally published back in the mid-90's and are still accessible via Steam. *If* Steam ever goes under, then you have a valid concern. Until then it seems like a waste of time.
Valve has said that if Steam goes under, they will release a patch to unlock the games. While that may be fine for Valve's own games, I'm not sure if the third parties would go along with it.

  7. Can you eloborate on the 2nd item. How and where do you disable Aero? Using win7 ? Which classic theme, where? thanks.Ray
Right click on the desktop, select "Personalize" and scroll down to "Basic and High Contrast Themes." Any of those will disable Aero, although you probably won't want one of the high contrast themes. On my system, Aero is automatically disabled when I start FSX and enabled again when I quit. Is this not common behavior?
