  1. My understanding is that in the USA altitudes are assigned at or above FL 410 as: Track 000-179 degrees FL 410, 450, 490, etc; Track 180-359 degrees FL 430, 470, 510, etc.  P2A evidently does not follow this convention.  For example, tried this morning to enter FL 430 for a flight heading west; the flight plan wouldn't take it, P2A changed it to FL 440.

  2. OK, maybe you might want to ignore your Saitek button and use the hotspot area to see if this works better. I think a lot of users would you this method very well and will then rule out or in your Saitek TOGO button. Some times the mechanical controller nul zones cause issues.

Looks like you've nailed it. I've had time for only one test, but using the hotspot area worked perfectly. The Saitek eventually works, but not at the beginning of the takeoff roll. I'll probably forget about the Saitek button and just use the hotspot. Thanks for the help.

  3. Did a search on my problem but didn't find anything, so apologize if this has already been dealt with. My problem is that on takeoff I have to press the TOGA button several times before anything happens. I have both FDs on, AT armed, and engines spooled up to 40%, then I press TOGA, and nothing happens. I press several more times, still nothing. Finally, just a few seconds before reaching V1, I press it and it takes. Everything seems normal from there. So, what am I doing wrong?

  4. There is no new product that can replace RC4 at the moment:  if you're thinking of ProATC it cant interact with AI jets, a sure show stopper for me.

How about VoxATC?  I was waiting to hear something re RC5, but...  The silence from JD is deafening -- afraid we're going to have to move on.

  5. Alan,

I have seen the anomoly with the fuel imbalance when loading with the control panel, this is on the bug list, but is not easy to replicate, but it will be addressed.

If possible could you run the flight again to verify if you experience the same issuethe moment that you notice an oddity, please save the situaltion and send the files to our support email (accessible via our website)...be sure to give a detailed explanation when sending the email.

    Thanks

Crosswind, thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I'm at the beginning of a 10-day trip and will not be able to fly until I return.  But, will do as you suggest as soon as I can.  One more question: I tried reloading the fuel from the control panel to no effect, so is there ANY way to quickly set the fuel level properly?

for the second one, it sounds like you were going faster than 230 knots.. if your speed is above the speed you are dialing in, the aircraft will climb to match the speed first... IAS basically just adjusts pitch to achieve the speed you are asking for. if you are trying to reduce speed, you have to adjust it in very small increments , and also make sure your power is very low or at idle.

    cheers

Andy, thanks for the reply.  Upon a little reflection your explanation seems correct.  Appreciate the help.

  6. Hi to the Group!  Downloaded 1.007 and did a flight from Baton Rouge to Dallas and suffered some perplexing problems.

Started up FSX, loaded the Q400, started ground power, opened the Control Panel, loaded 57 passengers, ~3500 lbs of cargo, and and ~4400 lbs of fuel.  Then, in the midst of the initial flows I saw an IMBALANCE warning on the Engine Display; I checked the fuel gauges and saw a total of ~8400 lbs (I loaded ~4400 lbs so where did the extra fuel come from?), and the fuel weight was grossly mismatched between the two tanks, with the left tank having about 5400 lbs and the right tank about 3000 lbs.  I started the fuel transfer process, but I find the extra fuel situation baffling.  Any explanations?

On my approach into Dallas I used VNAV to descend from FL240 to 9,000.  At that point, I reset the ALT to 6,000, pressed ALT SEL, then pressed IAS and rolled the wheel for 230 KIAS.  To my amazement the aircraft began climbing.  To reiterate: I was at 9,000 ft, set ALT for 6,000 ft, pressed ALT SEL and started climbing.  Again, I'm baffled.  Any explanations?

I should say this was only my second flight with the Q400.  My first flight with v1.006 was flawless, but I don't recall if I used IAS mode in that flight.  Surely, in this second flight I did something wrong....

  7. I know I'm going to have to switch to X-Plane sooner or later.  I would prefer to do it sooner, but I've become too used to having a moving map and an FMS type interface, even for aircraft that do not have a FMS.  So, the question is are there utilities available for these functions in the X-Plane world running Apple's OS X operating system?  Also, is it possible to run these utilities on a separate computer from the one running X-Plane?

  8. I'm strongly considering buying WideFS for some other software and am wondering what effect this might have on RC4. I don't intend to move RC to the client computer, at least not anytime soon. So, is there anything I will need to set up or do differently on RC with WideFS installed? I know that when you update the scenery data with makerwys.exe it asks if this is a WideFS configuration? Would I answer yes if I'm still running RC on the FSX computer?

Thanks for RC. It has made flight simming much more enjoyable.

  9. JD,

Appreciate the response, and apologize for the long, long time delay in responding back (vacation, etc). But, no, I never do 2x or 4x speeds, and I never ack and contact. In short, I'm doing just what you say: ack, change the frequency, choose 1 on the new menu. At least on my system, however, I strongly disagree there is plenty of time -- I cannot do it without chastisement from the controller. I was very much hoping there was some setting I could tweak to slow the impatient controller down.

    Alan

  10. Hi, Guys. Great Product. On my last flight I thought I would add some realism and tune the radios myself. However, when told to change frequencies I could never get it done fast enough to keep from being chastised, even thought I thought I was acting with more than sufficient alacrity. The flight critique at the end even chewed me out for "not listening." So, is there any way to modify the settings to give me more time to tune my radios?

    Thanks,
