Thank you for posting this. I am going to be embarking on this wonderful journey myself, although using FSX. All the best in your tour. Sam Mustafa

Woohoo thank you very much HiFi. Although I'm a very satisfied AS2012 user, this will only make it better. For people complaining about the lack of responses here, perhaps it's fixes to your reported problems that's keeping them busy ;) Just an FYI from personal experience, there's a fantastic ticket based support system on the site. It's the best way to report issues.

I don't see much replay value in Flight. There's the novelty factor at the moment. Once that wears out, the kids will move back to their favourite shoot em ups. The other day I logged in and all everyone was doing was crashing into one another. Fun? Yes, for 15 minutes. I didn't know what to do after that.

This game is so wrong on so many levels
Darth_Vapor666 replied to Goair-18's topic in The Microsoft Flight (2012) Forum
I've given it 3 tries now but still can't go more than 10 minutes before giving up. FSX on max settings runs smooth on my system yet Flight struggles. Then there's so much else wrong with it, I don't even want to begin. Ive briefly flown 6 different aircrafts including a Stinson L5. I can't see how Flight's lifeless models come anywhere close to reality. On the other hand, many addon FSX GA's have a realistic feel to them. Each to their own I suppose. -
Same here. Ive given it a good workout but am afraid it seems headed alongside other titles parked on my pc ocassionally seeing the light of day. Having said that, I normally don't save demos and there being no way I'll be spending a $ on it in its current form, I am not so sure anymore. I could of course leave it for my wife to 'play' seeing that my previous attempts to get her interested in flightsim ended in her either getting too worked up about landings or plain restless in other phases. But again, she said Flight looked 'cartoonish'. Guess that would be the straw that breaks this camel's back....I honestly do believe however that Flight would make for a worthy 'Xplane for iPhone/iPad' competitor.Sam

A dedicated failure utility
Darth_Vapor666 replied to Darth_Vapor666's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Ohh well, guess I'll just have to be happy with what we have at the moment. -
Hi,Like most true flight simmers, I like to add maximum realism to my flights. While we are spoilt for choice when it comes to weather, flight planning and ATC, I would really like to see a program dedicated to introducing failures. I have extensively used FS Passenger and more recently started using FS Captain. I think both programs do a good job of adding uncertainty through their failure modules. But alot of times when I'm doing GA VFR flights, I wish there were a program that would introduce the chance of a variety of random faliures without having to load up passengers and making announcements. Imagine how cool it would be to have a program that could simulate a wider range of failures than the standard few currently offered, and while I'm at it, what if it were capable of doing so based on aircraft type and your handling of the aircraft?I dont know, maybe there just aren't enough users to warrant the development of such a specific utility. But if there are, then I think developers behind FSP and FS Captain would be well-positioned to create something like this. Thanks for your time,Sam

I was a long term user of Rex before switching to ASE and then AS2012. AS2012 textures are 2nd to none in my opinion. I went back and forth initially, but soon realized that AS2012 weather engine and textures are a class above. I often find myself flying above overcast weather with very few holes. This is something you can't get with Rex. There are no violent wind shifts and flashing sky. It's taken some patience to get where I am with AS2012 but it's all been worth it. I frequently use weather based textures for my flight plan and find the installation time much shorter than Rex. Having said that, AS2012 is not without some minor problems which I am sure the developers will fix if they can. Eg as others have also noted, I find it more resource intensive than Rex. But its not very noticeable on my system. With weather based texture installation, Shade and halo textures get overwritten, so I have to fix that each time. But as I said above, these are very small issues compared to the overall experience this fantastic utility has to offer. It remains to be seen what enhancements REX Essentials will offer over AS2012.Sam

Your new color choices
Darth_Vapor666 replied to woodhick's topic in Letters to the Editorial Staff of AVSIM
Love the new colors! Thanks,Sam -
Lame and stupid, 2 words that come to mind after seeing that pathetic excuse for a flightsim video. Makes u wonder if MS is operating in a vacuum where they think they dictate what consumers like. Being able to identify your target market is not rocket science, especially after having successfully released 10 titles over 30 years. So how could they get it so wrong? Would love to find out the inside story someday....Sam

Really appreciate your prompt reply Travis. After briefly trying out the demo and reading through the detailed documentation, I was convinced that within its category like Aivlasoft EFB, this addon was way ahead of anything on the market today. So I couldnt hold off and just got it off simmarket for a bargain price of $27 :Drooling:Thanks again,Sam
-
Thanks for elaborating Travis. I should have explained what I meant. I use FSHost multiplayer client. The particular server on FSHost I am flying with gives me the sectors. So you fly from airport A to B, and as you touchdown at the destination, you get instructions to fly to C...then D. Hence I wanted to ensure that FS Captain would add value as a replacement for FSpax if I did not use its flight assignment function and instead chose to fly the sectors assigned by FSHost. PS just realised that you're the developer behind Aivlasoft. Gives me great comfort.Cheers,Sam

I am a happy fs passenger user, but after reading all the glowing reviews, can't resist the temptation of giving this a go. But before I get onto downloading the demo, I have a question. I do almost all my flights on a multiplayer server where you follow a predefined hoplist. Does Fscaptain cater for users choosing their own routes every time? Thanks, Sam

EZDOK ground and air profiles - global gain not independent
Darth_Vapor666 replied to N1G's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I have always wondered the same myself but got distracted with other issues I was having with the program. Would be nice to get some views. And also to know if this will be fixed in the upcoming release. Only seems logical to have the two independent. Sam -
I had the same problem after installing FSPS Xtreme PC. I stopped using it and reinstated my backed up Fsx cfg file. Now I have green grass once again. I can only assume that the program tweaked (removed) grass textures. Sorry if this doesn't help. Hopefully the smart users on this forum will have a better solution for you. Sam

HiFi and FSPS are two shining examples that come to mind. Kudos to developers who treat customers with respect. Given the choice between similar products, it is their goodwill and professionalism that will always win them customers over their competitors. I have never purchased from Orbx, and given the way I see their customers treated, I know what to expect should I require after-market services. Its worrying.

Aivlasoft EFB, Flightsim Commander or both?
Darth_Vapor666 replied to brynjames's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I've used both. Aivlasoft EFB is in a class of its own. Havent flown without since i got it. -
I use a small utility called 'always on top'. Google it. Works great. Thanks,Sam

Great work Tom. I actually have your excellent blog in my favourites. Just didn't realize you were the same Tom ;)I will checkout the particular post you've referred to. By the way, you've got a neat setup. Cheers,Sam

How do you do that Tom? I thought 10 days was the max. I would love to have it setup for 30 days.Thanks.Sam

Dave, you raise some good points. My motivation to resist upgrading is mainly driven by financial reasons. I know a significant amount of time has lapsed since the release of FSX, especially in contrast to prior versions which were released much closer to one another. But as with FS9, FSX is different in that it boasts a very large number of 3rd party add-ons. Infact i wonder if FSX has the largest collection of add-ons of any game ever. It is this investment in add-ons that makes it so hard to walk away from. And if it turns out that Flight offers backward compatibility for FSX addons, I will be among the 1st to get it.Regarding my disrespectful statement casting doubt over MS's claim to build a sim for current generation pc's, I will believe their claims when I see Flight playing on today's PC's. As for speculating on the target market, I do not have the sources or interest to do that. Will leave that to the experts on this forum. I totally agree with your comment about some of us putting too much emphasis on moving platform. Maybe it should not be so, but that's the way it is. I gave away FS9 the minute I got FSX. I had numerous addons for it too. It's just that some of us are programmed to go all or nothing. Being 6 years older and wiser, I wish to go down the 'nothing' path this time.I have read comments in forums about FSX belonging to a past era or past its use-by date. They make me wonder how I'll be able to resist Flight with all it's technological advancements and promise of 'as real as it gets' in 2012 versus FSX's promise applying to 2006. In computing terms, the gap is like an eternity. In my opinion, the most important question to consider would be what (if any) edge does a stand-alone Flight offer over an addon enhanced FSX? As vital as it is, FSX is like a skeleton for many of us, with addons bringing it to life. And while we often hear developers blame it (rightly I suppose) for the limitations it imposes, it's hard to ignore that within these limitations, the cutting edge stuff these developers are delivering us today is built for FSX. Take EZCA 3 and ASE2012 as examples. Based on what they are showing us in previews, both redefine excellence and realism in flightsim. Considering they are both for FSX and still not out, love it or hate it, the platform is here to stay for atleast as long as FS9 already has.The discussion can go on and on. There's just one way to resolve; MS release Flight already so we can get a break :)Kind regards, Sam
