  1. For me basically Scenery is managed through a 3rd party program And I'll only activate relevant the scenery for my flight. AS16+ASCA does my Wx, PFPX+TOPCAT for flight planning and t/o perf. Navdata is taken care of by Navigraph with Google calendar reminders letting me know when the AIRAC cycle needs updating. With my VA base being so far north (ENGM) It takes 15 minutes to align the IRS in the 737-800 I use this time for planning in PFPX and fetching departure plates.

I have a single monitor setup so keep that for FSX, export the OFP to my phone and view charts on my tablet with the Navigraph Android app which now has a moving map function.

I have looked at Aivlasoft EFB. But Idon't see any benefit from it that I don't already have especially on a single monitor setup were I'd have to constantly flip between windows.

  2. So far I've taken the 74 on more longhauls than shorthaul which is unusual for me.

One off the first things I did was take it on a RTW routing YMML-NZAA-KLAX-EGLL-VHHX-YMML (all realtime). I also just did CYVR-RJAA (4x compression) now I'm taking a little break from doing and I'm in the T7 doing RJAA-YSSY realtime.

All offline for me at the moment.. I can't forward ports on my current router and I'm not going to stuff around being a /T/ only pilot.

  3. I think they'll do a NGX update next (but not MAX models). Hopefully a new expansion pack including the 700ER/BBJ and -900ER models.

Selfishly I'd like see detailed 747 classic simulation. I know it's unlikely that PMDG will do it. I'd also be happy with a 777 expansion pack with the earlier models. Saying that though I'm very happy with the 737NG/777 and now 744 combo by PMDG.

  4. For a single session there are three canidates (on two I may have saved once en route but It was a while ago so I can't be sure)

    - Brisbane (YBBN) - Rarotonga (NCRG) PMDG 737-700 2,582 nm (This was definitely in one session

    - New York/JFK (KJFK) - Amsterdam (EHAM) PMDG MD-11 3,166 nm

    - Athens (LGAV) - Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi (VTBS) PMDG MD-11 4,287 nm

    Longest in a Classic Airliner

    - Bermuda (TXKF) - London/Gatwick (EGKK) Captain Sim 707-320B 2,998 nm

    Longest in Multi Sessions

    - Los Angeles (KLAX) - Alice Springs (YBAS) PMDG 777-200LR 7,032 nm. Was the second flight in the 777 I did after a short KPAE-KLAX hop

Years ago in FS9 I did Toulouse (LFBO) - Noumea (NWWW) 9,306 nm in I think the Posky A340-200. I was trying to get to Auckland but got low on fuel so I diverted to Noumea. But for that flight I did use time compression.

  5. A couple of the Australian 737 flights I generally do are

    YBBN-YSSY

    YBBN-YBTL

    YSSY-YMML

    YMML-YPAD

    YPAD-YBAS

These are are all 1-2 hour flights

Flying for Virtual Norwegian I've discovered quite a few smaller airports in Norway I like to take the NGX into especially with FTX Norway.

A couple of my favourites are:

ENEV - Harstad/Narvik - In particular the scenic offset approach into Rwy 35

ENTC  - Tromso - 4° Approach for both Rwy 01/19

ENML - Molde - scenic approach fjord on one side mountain on the other. A quick 30-40 minute flight from Oslo

RIght now I'm taking Yananyi Dreaming (before it lost it's paintjob) on a RTW So far I've done YBBN-NZAA-NCRG-PLCH-PHNL-KLAX-KDFW-MHTG. with MHTG-MPTO-SPIM-SBEG-TTCP-TNCM-GVAC-DFFD-DTTA-LIPZ-LYBE-LTBA-OIIE-UTDD-UCFM-ZWWW-ZLXY-ZSPD-RPLL-AYPY-YBBN. I'm just waiting on buying scenery for Panama City, Lima and Tobago before I can leave Tegucigalpa. Kiritimati (PLCH) was an interesting approach. Turns out there are tall trees right before the threshold of Rwy 08 I ended up doing a St Barts style approach with a little harder than normal landing!

  6. I've taken old metal on the YBBN-YSSY route a number of times. Going south an easy but lazy way is tracking BN LAV TW SY which takes you a little to the west of the current H62/H12 route. If you want to follow H62/H12 exactly track BN LAV MSO/NDB from MSO/NDB I think it's outbound 190° until you hit inbound SY 160°. Another interesting route is YBAS-YPAD It's been a while since I've flown it but between I think Oodnadatta NDB (OOD) and Leigh Creek VOR (LEC) there's a small gap where you're out of range of radio navaids you basically fly a constant heading until you pick up LEC

  7. A world tour is always a good one too - planning the legs for the aircraft(s) you're going to use, checking weather, and flying legs. I've done it once and it was an amazing feeling when I landed back at the airport I started from (Orillia, Ontario) - from the opposite direction!

I'm doing this currently. I've only ever competed a RTW tour once before. It give you a chance to stop in at interesting places you wouldn't otherwise visit. On my current tour I've just passed through Kiritimati a tiny atoll halfway between Rarotonga and Hawaii. Once I get to europe I'm planning of taking a silk road routing to China with stops in Italy, Serbia, Turkey, Iran, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

  8. Generally SOP1 Because It flows nicely and I can't be bothered changing it most of the time. If I'm simulating a flight from that certain airline below the equator then I'll use SOP 2. I haven't tried SOP 3 yet but I did have a good look at it while I was doing a PDF checklist for all three. From what I saw of SOP 3 I didn't like it one bit. I might give it a try one day though.

  9. It's really tough to pick a winner. There have been so many good add on's in the last five years.

    Overall Top 3

    1. Majestic Dash 8-Q400 - Firstly because of it's incredibly light footprint on FSX . It's also very immersive and fun to fly. Having recently joined Flybe VA I've done quite a few Q400 runs lately and It never gets old.
    2.  A2A Piper Cherokee - It's hard to choose between the Cessna 172 and Cherokee (I haven't bought the 182 yet) The Cherokee just seems to have just that little bit more character than the 172. But I rate them both they just an all around great package with the walk around and hangar modules also the fact it models time progression between flights.
    3. PMDG Boeing 737 NGX - It was just so innovative for it's time it well and truly raised the bar for flight sim add ons. Two years later I'm still getting as much enjoyment out of it as I did back in 2012.

    Single Engine LSA/GA Top 5

    1. A2A Piper Cherokee
    2. A2A Cessna 172
    3. Real Air Lancair Legacy
    4. Ant's Tecnam Eaglet
    5. Baytower Vans RV-7

Twin Engine (Piston/Turbine) GA Top 4

    1. Real Air Beechcraft Duke B60 v2
    2. Flight 1 Beechcraft Kingair B200
    3. Real Air Beechcraft Turbine Duke
    4. Milviz Beechcraft Baron B55

Commuter Airliner (<110 Pax) Top 5

    1. Majestic Dash 8-Q400
    2. PMDG Jetstream J41
    3. Aerosoft Twin Otter X Extended
    4. Qualitywings BAe 146/Avro RJ
    5. Feelthere ERJ v2

Commercial Airliner (>110 Pax) Top 5

    1. PMDG Boeing 737 NGX
    2. Coolsky DC-9
    3. PMDG Boeing 777
    4. Aerosoft Airbus A32S X
    5. Simcheck A300

Even though it's not an aircraft I think it's worth mentioning PFPX by Flight Sim Soft. This flight planning tool has transformed the way I fly.

  10. I use a program called Primo PDF. From navigraph charts or whatever source I'm using I'll go to print the navplate but instead of selecting my printer I'll select Primo PDF then a prompt comes up allowing you to save it wherever you like.

I usually save it into Dropbox then access it from my EFB (aka Samsung Tablet)

  11. Well I'm a big King Air fan so as much as I'd like my vote to be for F1's B200. But if the Realair B60 v2 is anything to go by I'd have to go with their Turbo Duke v2 upon realease. Heck even the current Turbo Duke is worthy of a place in best turboprops.

If I had to rank the turboprops (all sizes) it'll go

    1. Majestic Dash 8-Q400

    2. Realair Turbine Duke v1

    3. Flight1 Beechcraft B200

    4. Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended

    5. PMDG Jetstream J41

Not to discredit Flight1 in anyway. Their King air is a bloody good plane but I'm not too fussed on the G1000 avionics.

  12. A screenshot thread for all Dashes. Twotters also welcome.

    I'll start with a recent EIDW-EGHI trip.

  13. To be fair Justflight FLite/CLS products are aimed at casual simmers who basically just want a pretty model to fly and usually aren't too worried about whether all the systems are modeled or if it the flight dynamics are what you'd expect from a 747. I personally wouldn't go anywhere near it. I was burned by the Justflight L1011 when It came out being a non CLS product with a higher pricing point I was expecting it to be a step above.

For the Captainsim 707 you can get a working INS 2D pop up for free at http://www.simufly.com/ins/ Works with most aircraft.

    M7q1KK.png

^ Thats my Captainsim 707 with a three unit INS set up.

Older aircraft worth a look are.

A2A Boeing 377 Stratocruiser: From an era of the big radials It's a delight to fly a little to tricky to navigate (no DME) but once you've flown it a few times it's nowhere near as daunting as it first appears.

Aerosoft/Simcheck A300: Has an INS out of the box VC is a little dated but otherwise a good addition

Captainsim 707: Once you have the Simufly INS it's an excellent product easily Captainsim's best add on

Captainsim 727: Pretty good but you need to get the user FDE update from their forums.

Flight1/Coolsky DC-9: I know it's a shorthauler but the VC and FDE are superb.

Flightsimlabs Concorde X: Well because it's Concorde it also has an INS system out of the box and a Virtual FE who is a tremendous help managing the systems. Beware it's NOT a set and forget aircraft and it has a very steep learning curve. Mine has been stored in the hanger for a while because I simply don't have time to fly it. But I did do two atlantic crossings with my quickest being EGLL > KJFK in 03:17.

  14. Well I just shocked myself the other day by tallying up my simmarket purchases. Between December 2011 (my flightsim comeback) and now I came up with something like 2160 EUR and that's not counting all my ORBX stuff from flightsimstore which is easily another 400+ AUD. Also everything PMDG has for FSX excl. the 747 Expansion packs so that's another good 250-300 USD.

Usually I try to limit myself to around 50-60 AUD per week but doesn't always happen that way.

And to top it all off I sim from a laptop...

  15. And I just bought KORS just the night before

Oh well now I'll head back for another CC battering

Coffs Harbour, Essendon, Warnervale, West Yellowstone,  England, Scotland here I come with with my Cherokee

    *EDIT*

Just had a look at the PNW airfields and I'm a bit overwhelmed by choice. I already have Diamond Point (2WA1), Orcas Island (KORS), Fall City (1WA6) and Darrington (1S2) what others can anyone recommend?
