The FSL Concorde depresses me.  It is clear that all of the major addon developers are transitioning to MSFS and probably by the end of 2022 we will have a very nice collection of high fidelity addons to choose from on this platform.  FSL Concorde will be stuck on P3D and I am not even sure I want to buy it with the constant uncertainty of DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG errors plus an older platform for just one aircraft. Hopefully we will hear some good news on a MSFS version.

I would buy a high-fidelity Concorde for any platform but, if you haven`t noticed, there is a MSFS option on the new FSL Launcher, so perhaps it is coming for that sim as well?

I'm just curious: You hardware your using would say otherwise aside from the plugins being part of the issue, do have separate nvidia settings for X-plane and MSFS/PD3?  Or are you nvidia setting identical across the board for all simulators and if they are that could be part of your issue as well.

    NVidia settings are the same.

I´ve had some Vulkan related crashes in the last month, but those are easy to identify and not my biggest concern. Besides, P3D also suffers from DXGI hung issues. MSFS seems to be the most stable of the three in that regard (until they change the api to DX12, of course).

This surprises me - and is pretty much out of the ordinary for most users. I can not remember the last time X-Plane crashed for me.

There are some things people can do to make it fail (like running certain unstable or outdated third-party add-ons, drivers or hardware overclocks), but default X-Plane is VERY stable - and may I say so - certainly more stable than the competition.

I use orthos, lots of them. Can't use the sim otherwise. 😩

A log file should rarely, if ever, exceed 1 megabyte.  I don't have the 727, but it's unlike the person who handles support to ignore issues.  I can talk to him, if you like.

Thanks, but this is a known issue and I assume he is fully focused on the Q400. Hopefully this will be fixed after the release.

I've had people tell me this, on an almost daily basis, when it comes to crashes and the TBM.

Then I look at their log file.

The problem with X-Plane, and any flight sim, is plugins from 3rd party developers.  The more you have, the higher the chance you'll get crashes.  Especially when quality control is almost non-existent.

Oh yes, I agree. The thing is that you need plugins on XP11 to have a good experience and I am only using the ones that are absolutely necessary.

But even payware planes are not timely maintained. For instance, the FlyJSim 727 has been generating logs with hundreds of megabytes of error messages after each flight for months now and the dev won't bother to fix that.

In any case, hopefully the base XP12 will be much improved, so that we don't need so many plugins in the future.

  6. I actually enjoy XP, I really do. But, to me, the main issue is not even the water or general aesthetics of the sim, but the fact that the it is just not stable enough like MSFS or P3D (again, in my experience).

When starting a flight on XP11 there is, at least, a 25% chance that I will not make it to the end. That leads to me having fear before starting a long planned flight, whereas I don't have this with the other sims.

Hopefully the stability of the platform (coupled with payware aircraft/plugins) will improve with XP12.

Thank you all for your excellent responses.

I didn't even think about g-sync monitors but I'll take a good look at those now.

I know this build is going to quite expensive but I should be able to get a few hundred quid for the computer I have now to help offset it.

    Cheers and thanks

I´d highly recommend a LG CX/C1 OLED 48" or bigger. It has Gsync and the quality is just amazing.

Putting my logical head on if you were getting the DXGI problem and a reinstall of v5.2HF1 solved it that would suggest a bad file or files was replaced. But why would only the DXGI files become corrupted? If you were getting other problems I could understand a reinstall would fix those too.

It just seems like a coincidence. How did you reinstall? Just uninstalling and reinstalling the client or a complete uninstall and reinstall of P3Dv5? What about add-on.cfg, scenery.cfg and other important files?

It was a fresh installation. Haven´t made any reg or cfg tweaks since installing it but I must say that I am not using P3D quite extensively these days, so it may be just luck that I have not bumped into this issue yet.

There's something I don't understand. The Asobo schedule of upcoming bug fixes and future updates clearly says there's no plan to allow third-party developers access to the weather engine. Yet REX markets products to do exactly that. What am I missing?

REX basically uses workarounds to inject the weather into the sim, leading to all sort of FPS issues and lack of seamless transitions, something that would not happen if documented apis would be used.

With all the problems, I own the product and still use it whenever the (yet not fixed) lightning bug is present.

For that to happen someone from LM would need to come to your house and uninstall your P3D installation. That seems unlikely. 😉 P3D will stay on my system for as long as I want it to.

Yes, sure. I gues FS2004 users can still say the same.

At least the sim is stable for me and I am not getting the dreaded Device Hung errors, but even XP11 has better volumetric clouds available at this point.

With the risk of "plagiarizing" a different topic, it would be good to know what we can look forward to (besides a handful of 3rd. party aircraft).

    What's your point?

My point is that they are not bound by the SDK for this particular project, so one cannot say that the SDK is limited or not based just on this MD-11. In any case, FBW has recently pulled their A320 out of the marketplace recently and mentioned SDK limitations, so it seems that there are still elements to be improved.
