  1. Recently I purchased a 4090 and have basically doubled my FPS on MSFS to 120 most of the time when using the new frame generation technology, and that with TAA, RealTraffic, 4K and everything on Ultra. While I have purchased XP12 and did use it a lot, I must say that the performance gap is now so great that I have not bothered to launch XP for a long time, especially after SU11 and all its goodies. Besides that, MSFS is absolutely rock solid, while on XP crashes and all sort of visual glitches are still common. Now with tons of add-ons and high quality free content being released for MSFS, I am afraid that the gap is becoming too large for me to commit to XP much further into the future. I sincerely hope that LR focuses on improving their engine to support most recent gaming technologies like DLSS and FR and perhaps be more clear in articulating how are they going to match the absurd visual difference between the two platforms, especially when it comes to terrain.
  2. The 5800X3D is based on the AM4 socket. While a very good CPU, the platform AM4 is presumably dead, as all new releases (including a possible 7800X3D) will be made on the AM5 platform. Regarding the build, it looks pretty good to me, just keep in mind that there should be no upgrade path for the CPU in the future. If you would like to save some money and also have a generally cooler and more power-efficient build, a 13700K would also be a good option. The small FPS increase is not enough to justify the significant price increase imo... Finally, as for my storage config, as I also use other sims, including X-Plane 12 which demands a large amount of storage to hold photographic terrain, I've opted to save same cash and just store those in spinning disks. For MSFS alone, a good quality 2Tb NVMe drive should be sufficient.
  3. I think it makes sense for LM to break-free from the shackles of ESP. Some interim releases using the old engine might still be doable, but the long-term vision should target something revolutionary like incorporating Unreal Engine 5.
  4. Hi there, and welcome back! 🙂 MSFS is the perfect choice for those returning to the hobby. Out of the box you will get amazing worldwide scenery, beautiful graphics, very good weather generation, dozens of hand-crafted airports and some advanced aircraft like the A310 or all the GAs packing free-of-charge WT avionics. Here are some answers to your questions: Both are pretty active and even though I am in Europe, I have been using VATSIM exclusively for a while as I find their software to be a bit more functional. Nowadays VATSIM is pretty popular in Europe as well. Regarding add-ons, I would perhaps recommend that you use the vanilla Sim with the free stuff included in the Marketplace like the World Updates, Aircraft, Scenery and Avionic improvements. Once you get a good feel for MSFS, then the possibilites are endless.. Freeware: There is a lot of free-stuf available for MSFS. Check the most downloaded content at flightsim.to and you will get a good idea of what I am talking about that. When it comes to freeware, I would highly recommend the FBW A320 and FSTL (included within the FBW installed) or AIG AI Traffic models (I use them with RealTraffic + PSXT, but free AI injectors are available as well). Payware: As for paid add-ons, my shortlist would be the PMDG 737, Fenix A320, Milviz/Blackbird MV310R with the TDS GTNXi, FSRealistic and a Navigraph subscription for nav data and an amazing Charts App. As mentioned above, I also use the subscription based RealTraffic with PSXT as this provides me with real air traffic all around the globe. I have both the 49" Odyssey and a 48" 4K OLED TV. After trying both, I kept the OLED TV for flight simulation, while using the Odyssey for light gaming and productivity. The image quality on those new OLED TVs is great and flying at night is a total blast! Perhaps you can order both and return the one you don't like so much? With the rig on my signature, I am able to run MSFS at high fps on all scenarios. The new 4XXX GeForce cards offers a life-chaning Frame Generation tech for sims which basically doubles your framerates without much compromise. So, I would definitely recommend a 4090 if you can find or pay for one...if not, getting a cheaper 3080, 3080Ti or 3090 would also be sufficient. As for CPUs, you may opt for an AM5 Ryzen for platform longevity or just go with an Intel 13600k, 13700k or 13900k if you prefer. A cheaper option might be the 5800X3D, which is amazing for sims, but cannot be upgraded down the road. Finally, if you are starting from scratch, I would recommend going for a DDR5 build. Have fun!
  5. Well, I notice the difference and my rig is not only used for sims. If you already have a 4090, I don’t see much of a point limiting it to 60hz, but that’s just me. The biggest improvement perhaps would be on image quality if you opt for an OLED panel (I’d recommend a 48”).
  6. Flickering with Gsync is an issue when the frame rate is relatively low when compared to the refresh rate of the screen. With Frame Generation tech on MSFS, I am rarely below 80fps, hence the problem is not noticeable. Just like you, that was indeed not the case with my old 3090.
  7. My absolute horror scenario should not be much different to yours. KJFK at 31L (looking to the city), inside the Fenix A320, with RealTraffic on (insane quantity of live aircraft) and cloudy weather @ 4K/TAA/Ultra: So, at the worst possible case, I am getting 55 fps. 60 or even 80 are doable with some effortless optimization.
  8. With the new 4XXX series cards and Frame Generation technology, I am achieving 120fps during most phases of my flights on MSFS. The days of ridiculously low framerates on sims seem to be coming to an end at last! To the OP: as your setup is similar to mine, I would recommend that you keep 120Hz and activate TAA, Frame Generation and G-sync for your MSFS flights. Can't comment on P3D, but when I use DCS/XP12 I tend to turn G-sync off to avoid flickering. You can't go wrong with LG OLED C series. I have a 48" CX since a while and it is just great for simming.
  9. Just had a hard-drive issue with my PC and had to re-install MSFS. Having purchased most of my airports via the Marketplace, the process was relatively simple and painless. Compare that to my P3D times where I had to download hundreds of items in different stores and then manually install/activate them and I could not be happier with the current possibilities that we have. Keeping the ecosystem balanced, purchasing from the Marketplace when possible, and from third-party stores when not, seems like a no-brainer to me. Besides, and this something that might not be appreciated in this forum, the fact that add-ons in the Marketplace are much cheaper in less favored currencies is for sure an amazing opportunity for simmers living in developing countries.
  10. Curious that you don't remember, because it was a direct answer to you, actually. Here is the full exchange from the FSLabs forum:
  11. FSLabs already mentioned that they are hard at work on a fully featured MSFS Concorde. Due to current market conditions, I still believe that it may launch not that long after the P3D version. Considering that it is almost certain that there won't be an upgrade path from P3D to MSFS, for me it does not make sense to waste 150-200USD on the P3D version and/or maintaining an outdated sim just for one aircraft. With so many aircraft and quality of life updates being released for MSFS, I will gladly wait for the most future-proof version of Concorde.
  12. I sold my old 3090 for about 800 Euro. Perhaps that is an option for you? If you only fly in VR, then you would not be using the biggest selling point for 4XXX cards anyway.
  13. You are right that it is only available for 4XXX cards, but Frame Generation can be used without DLSS3. That makes total sense for 4090 users, considering that you get the performance boost without the visual degradation.
  14. Then you have another argument to grab a 4090.
  15. For me the frame generation tech of the new Nvidia cards are the highlight of this generation. With that being said, if one is thinking about paying1800 Euro for a 4080, I think it would make sense to go for a 4090. 25-40% more performance and an actually better cost-benefit.
  16. The weather radar also seems to be working fine for me, so not sure what was the drama about the API when SU10 was released.
  17. Hopefully the awful flickering is finally gone, even through I don’t see a related ticket in the change log.
  18. Just arrived in KSFO. I am in love with this beauty.
  19. Yeah, good luck for the dev, but until a practical solution like MSFS streaming comes about, I will keep filling my 8Tb HDDs with orthos.
  20. I said "mainstram XP developers" such as Airfoilabs, Toliss, Aerobask, Rotate...of course I am not referring to Candy Crush makers. Not sure what addon you are talking about, but if it does not support windows, then probably I am not interested anyway.
  21. While waiting for SU11, had a blast flying some heavies in XP12 during the last weeks. Gate, pushback and takeoff from Eldorado SKBO: Some highlights of my favourite airliner beautifully represented by Rotate: Great moments in the Felis 747-200:
  22. First flight with the A310 and I am liking it a lot. It might be my new favourite airliner in MSFS. Love those jets mixing an oldschool flight-deck with some modern elements here and there. As a long-time user of the XP11 A300/310, I have not noticed major differences in the basic operations. The plane does look much prettier in MSFS, of coure. The new frame generation feature of the 4090 also allowed me to take off from KORD with full AI traffic while keeping 60 fps. Great stuff! Just missing a Stream Deck profile now...
  23. Users are more important than developers to keep an ecossytem alive. Just see what happened with P3D after MSFS launched. And even though I have been using XP12 quite a lot recently, even some hardcore XP developers have been targeting MSFS to boost their income. As for this OS discussion, 96.5% of Steam users use some sort of Windows variation. That is compared to 1.28& using Linux (growing basically due to the SteamDeck, which I have and love). Therefore, as a Windows user that likes to benefit from all available flight-sims (MSFS, DCS and XP12), it is only reasonable to assume that most mainstream XP developers would never stop supporting Windows users.
  24. PSXT + Realtraffic is working for me.
  25. In my usual test scenario (KJFK 31L overcast with lots of traffic) I have around 25-30 fps with my 4090. With frame generation, I can reach around 55fps. Pretty heavy bird but also beautiful!
