About Me

  • About Me
RW plane crash survivor. My last 'store brand' bought PC was the IBM PS/2. Its micro-channel architecture and $5000 discounted price *for employees* including everything (IBM brand monitor, keyboard, mice, external floppy, printer, modem, $260 for math co-processor, etc.) taught me a lesson. Note to self: never, never ever buy anything that is bleeding edge, proprietary, and single sourced (looking at you Apple).

  1. I don't think it ever will. For the majority, the digital twin is alive and not a static model. Change is inevitable.
  2. Yes. Now, it's well known but not when horses were the only mode of transportation before the car. And so it is too with local vs cloud-based scenery. Competiton for ChromeOS.
  3. Exactly. MSFS 2024 is arguably a different business model (using streaming and thin clients) compared to the old business model that MSFS 2020 is or was. It's like breeding race horses (local storage of scenery eg. Orbx's TrueEarth) only to find out later that no amount of studying racehorse performance, will horses ever win races against a car (cloud streaming of scenery eg. MSFS 2024).
  4. But then.... Enter... people like Elon Musk and Steve Jobs who both didn't think much of consultants (sorry) and marketing studies, and people like one old boss I had (owner of a company. He could sell sand to Arabs and ice to Eskimos yesterday, today, and tomorrow now!). Musk: the only way to succeed is by experiencing and learning from failure ("when it's important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor" ie. risk taking). Jobs: hated power point presentations ("stay hungry, stay foolish" ie. risk taking).
  5. Interesting. I'm wondering if the calculation was for concurrent users. Do you have a link?
  6. The world needs people like NickN. (Him along with John Lennon and Steve Jobs). I wonder what NickN would have thought of MSFS 2020 and 2024.
  7. Thank you. You actually aroused my curiosity. So I did a reality check and priced it out. I wanted to test the assumption that one can save by building one's own PC. I think I found the Velocity Micro system you are referring to that has a $150 off. Is it this one? The price is $2,149. The Raptor Z95 (Customize Your Raptor™ Z95- Velocity Micro)? Check out the comparison of a compatible system below for $1570. I suspect the price difference will be pretty consistent when comparing other pre-built vs. do-it-yourself systems. Personally, I understand why vendors charge more. They have fixed costs and have to pay for labor, rent, and tech support. I don't mind paying for them if I don't feel like building my own. (I don't mind paying my share and help stimulate the economy). 🙂 Please let me know if I'm missing something.
  8. I'm not sure that one should jump to that conclusion. The same situation for doors and cabins existed in 2020. Most default planes did not have opening doors or walkable cabins. But clearly the feature could be implemented, which it was with 2020 pay ware planes. Just because a feature is not implemented in default planes in 2024 does not necessarily mean that we can conclude that default planes are bugged or rushed.
  9. I've read even less fps is required for the human eye. There is a reason why traditionally movies are still shot at 24 frames per second and tv shows are broadcast at 29.97 fps. See: High frame rate - Wikipedia
  10. If you're going to buy hardware anyway, the time to buy is now. It's the week of Black Friday, the BIGGEST sale day of the year in the US. Hence, the reason to jump into MSFS 2024 now, find out if you need an upgrade and buy when pricing is at its lowest for computers.
  11. It's like buying stocks in the stock market. You buy based with an eye on the future (the potential of management or people behind the product).
  12. Does the Longitude and the PC-24 Pilatus have cabins and do all the buttons and switches work in the flightdeck?
  13. Thank you. Folks are complaining about the new UI in MSFS 2024. They'll get a heart-attack if they see how different it is in DCS. It works for the type of sim that it is. It's just a matter of getting used to it. To borrow a quote: "Reasonable people adapt to the world. The unreasonable expect the world to adapt to them". 😁
  14. Can someone confirm the list of 70 aircraft for the Standard Edition below? Is there a list for the other editions. Also, is there a list or link for enhanced or bespoke airports from Asobo or Microsoft in the various editions? Thank you. 15. That's a good question requiring at most a $10 answer. 🙂 I figure it'll probably be worth a try.
