  1. It's pretty obvious.

When the engines stop, they stop feeding the Packs with pressurized air.

The Packs need pressurized air to make the Air Conditioning work.

Even in cold areas, the inside of the cabin heats up rather quickly as there is no airflow. Indeed, over a very reflective surface like ice, the amount of light entering  the cabin windows will be increased, and with no airflow to remove any heat, a greenhouse type of effect begins happening, and the inside of the cabin warms up. Add several hundred warm blooded mammals breathing and moving around, and you have a rather warm cabin.

Standard mammalian physiology will cause sweating.

I'm pretty sure if you don't have bleed air for pressurization then you would have bigger problems than cabin temps  :P

  2.

They can't translate the whole manual, and probably won't know what text to search for. Even if they do choose a good search term, they would have to translate every matching result. An English speaker can quickly read and discard unhelpful matches. That makes the manual much harder to use if you don't read English.

Reminds me of project Tupolev, if they didn't offer an English manual I would have had to resort to learning how to operate the thing by trial and error.

  3. Poanicky don't take this the wrong way but I've given you some rep on this post simply because you've managed to lever the word disgust/disgusting/disgusted into almost every post you've made. Which is pretty awesome, and you deserve recognition for that alone  :P

I think that's what he is going for and with only 11 posts he is already stirring the pot.

  4. You said it. I would rather the development resource was used elsewhere.

7,700NM is still a lot of range, I'd like to fly my AA birds that have the RR engines on their 200's or the legacy United birds with their PW engines (and the 200ER's serves everything from ORD-MIA (rare but I've seen it) or as far as ORD-HKG with UA.)

  5. To hell with them they shouldn't have bought homes near the airport if they are gonna cry about noise. We have a guy in my home town who lives next to the airport and complianed about the noise from small prop planes. Everytime I fly I buzz(within legal limits) his house just to ###### him off.

People who live next to airports have no right to complain but I live almost 7 miles from ORD deep in the city and every other night I still have 747's shaking my windows, it wasn't a problem a few years ago but now its more common with the new east/west runways. I guess if you are looking for cheap property then buy near an airport and as for Concorde she had a problem that even high altitudes cannot solve: the sonic boom and that's why she was mainly regulated to cruise over oceans or unpopulated areas.

  6. 1. Where do you guys find the time?

    2. What do you do for 16 hours?

    3. Do you just leave the simulation be for hours on end while you do your own thing? Does ATC not bother you?

    4. (Okay this one is a little sarcastic) How far away is the Xbox from your sim station?

    1. Usually on days off from work.

    2. I'm not there for the whole 16 hours (12-14 hour legs is my self imposed cap), I still do other tasks around the house, play on the PS3, or sleep depending on the time of day (real pilots do get breaks).

    3. Yep and partially because of that I rarely fly online longhauls, no need to worry about ATC's or SUP's.

    4. PS3 is a mere 8 inches away from the keyboard (it shares the same monitor as the PC in fact)

My longest flight was ORD-DOH which was around 12 hours, after reaching sunrise over the Atlantic and turning off the center pumps I went to bed and didn't wake up until the plane was about 2 hours from TOD.

  7. So I was using the Catering Service with GSX today and I noticed one of the vehicles went to the Right Entry 2 door and the other one went to the usual Right Entry 4 door. I'm used to seeing it at Right Entry 1 and Right Entry 4, but I was wondering if this was how a real world 777 would do catering service. Anyone know which doors the real world 777 uses to do their catering service?

I think it depends on the operator and possibly the gate configurations, I've seen both 1R and 2R used on AA when it comes to the forward galleys and on Qatar I've seen them mostly use 2R for the forward catering.

Quick question guys. is GSX worth buying? How does it interact with other add ons like FS2crew and such? I have been thinking about buying it for enhance the T7 experience.

Yep its worth every penny and the push back function alone is worth its weight in gold.

  8.

My question: Is the activation of the APU sometimes delayed until shortly before pushback, like in the 737 or is the APU usually running this early on the checklist?

AA and just now Qatar run their APU for the entire turn but Qatar used to shut it down and then they turn it on approximately half hour before boarding to bring cabin the cabin atmosphere to comfortable temperatures, so I guess it really depends on the operator and airport rules. Cold and dark is very rare for passenger ops (and since aircraft mechanics have to run ETOPS checks for overseas flights a pilot will never find a cockpit cold when he arrives for a longer flight). When I worked in the regionals it was fairly common if the GPU is inop so they shut EVERYTHING down to avoid burning fuel with the APU if the turn is long.

  9. I'm getting drawn back to it and I kinda like how the systems are more manual and is a bit more involved vs setting a few knobs in auto. Another problem with the 777 is that its not really practical for flights in and out of MDW (just flew into the airport for the first time in the RW, it was a blast and felt heavy deceleration the moment we touched down, you don't have much room for error with those small runways).

  10. Yes I saw this too. It would be awesome, but I think they'll still be banned from the EU...

I think the EU will allow flights but only with their brand new Tu-204's, the IL-76's are mainly used for the NK-China route parings and then you got the props for domestic flying. I still wonder if the sanctions prohibit Air Koyro from buying western Airbus or Boeing jets (although if Boeing it would most likely be second hand).

Some interesting reviews on skytrax http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/koryo.htm

  11. Different and alone without ATC? instead of the same and busy as heck managing TCAS, ATC and trying to get a word in on the radio through the other hundred aircraft on frequency?

    riight.

That's exactly why I would go my transpacific route and my main issue with events is with ATC being so saturated that I often get neglected, HNL became so busy during a FNO that I simply diverted to the big island and avoided those nasty holds they were giving out (after 4 hours in the 737 I wanted to land and shut down). Once in oceanic though I'm txt only (one way to somewhat model CPLDC and don't feel like wearing my headsets the whole time, PC speakers are inop).

Not that it matters, just found out I'm scheduled to work so Saturday's out.

  12. Hi all,

Didn't I read somewhere that you have to have the "seatbelt" switch set to "Auto" to enable the Cabin Ready signal, but what triggers it to light up I have no idea. I got it on a take off the other day and just before a landing too, perfect!

I use on instead of auto as well and I still get the reports.

  13. im having CTDs on approach with PMDG T7 too. Only at 6 hours of flying and more (i mean, full 6 hours not a 6 hour flight done by "autocruise" under 2 hours.. flight to hong kong (11 hours) CTD. flight to Dubai (8hours) CTD.. flight to zurich (5 hrs) no CTD

Teory about "things getting loaded on approach is wrong) because scenery at HKG is very sparse nothing like FT Dubai quality so.. To me it looks like FSX just cant handle this bird.. (i did full reinstall of windows and fsx) i didnt get a CTD for few weeks and then it started to happend again..

idk? waiting for new patch.. maybe it will fix this

It has to be some other issue all of my flights to and from Doha were without problems including my 12 hour flight from ORD with FSDT ORD and this is also with FTX global and opus weather.
