  1. The TML setting will only reset if you make changes to the settings in the sim and confirm them, I believe, so as long as you stay out of your settings and make changes in the fsx.cfg instead, it won't reset.
  2. Jim - you are a star, that appears to have done the trick. Many thanks
  3. Hi All I've looked through event viewer and almost all of my "fatal error" CTDs are caused by: C:\Windows\system32\d3d11.dll Does anyone know the fix for this issue? Thanks
  4. Hi Guys Lately I'm noticing a lot of "fatal errors", where the sim freezes for a few seconds before getting the "fatal error" message and then CTD. I believe this is different to an OOM, but am unsure what causes this problem? I never got it when running in DX9 mode. Is this a common issue? Does anyone have any tips as to what causes it? Many thanks
  5. Glad to see this worked for you Paul, it's been a godsend for me. The more ORBX products you have, the worse it gets if you leave it all activated when you're not using it! It takes a couple of minutes to set the library up how you need it for each flight, but it takes less time (and it's a hell of a lot less frustrating) than recovering a flight after a CTD!
  6. YMMV, but from my own experience, I can save anywhere up to 1GB of VAS usage by disabling everything ORBX that I'm not using. Always leave the FTXAA_AIRPORTS and FTXAA_ORBXLIBS enabled as I think that disabling these can cause issues, but I use Scenery Config Editor to disable everything else that I don't use during the flight. So for example if I am flying from Bozeman to Jackson Hole, I will not have Orbx England and all of the English airports enabled, same for Australia, same for Northern California, etc. My OOM's in ORBX regions are now pretty much a thing of the past, if you use complex add on aircraft as well as AI traffic etc, any VAS you can save is a big bonus, and this is the biggest way to save it that I've found. Also note this applies to any addon scenery, not just ORBX!
  7. Use Scenery Config Editor to disable ANY ORBX airports you have that you are not planning on using during your flights. The toll they take on VAS is immense. I used to get constant OOM's in ORBX land, but since I started disabling all of their airports other than my arrival and departure airport, they're a thing of the past.
  8. Hi Guys How do you go about determining the active runway either for departure or arrival, especially at an airport with several runways. For example, I'm sat at the gate at Boston, and I've tuned the ATIS. I've been told "landing and departing runway 15L and 15R". So presumably in the real world, this would be one for departures and one for arrivals, in normal operations? How do I then determine which one to use (without waiting for the AI traffic to start taxiing and seeing which they use) ? Same question on arrival, when I fly airliners I normally tune the ATIS at about 150 miles away from my destination, then when I get in range it will tell me which runways are in use. But again, how would I know whether to set up for a 15R or 15L approach? I just guess normally, but it really ruins the immersion when you are just about to land and there is an AI aircraft about to take off on your landing runway! (I don't use FSX ATC) Any tips much appreciated!
  9. Yep that's right, I disabled everything except from landclass from UTX and let FTX Vector handle the actual vector data. The reason I did that was only because I already owned UTX Europe from a few years back. I decided to buy FTX Vector because it seemed to be a living, evolving product that was only going to get better in time. And also, seeing as I had FTX Global and I am eagerly awaiting FTX Open LC, it made sense to have all of my products from the same "family" for my fresh start with my reinstall. I really miss the UTX Landclass layer as everything (even with FTX Global) looks so dull from high altitudes at the moment, but not long now until we have Open LC, thankfully. I'm hoping the USA version isn't too far behind EU!
  10. Yeah I have FTX global and vector, and even with that I hate to stray out of the full ORBX regions now...I've been spoiled! I don't use a landclass layer, I used to use UTX (Europe - never owned USA) just for LC with FTX Global which was actually very good. However I've just done a huge reinstall owing to a hardware change so elected to wait for OpenLC rather than reinstall UTX.
  11. Totally agree with you. I branched out into GA flying from airliners and now I don't want to get back in the 737. I'm finding that even FTX Global areas look bad now by comparison. I'm hoping that when OpenLC EU and NA is released (the only areas I fly) it will make things interesting at high altitude again, as I do enjoy flying the airliners. But I'm all about the eye candy. Oh and rufowler - yes you can use UTX landclass only. You need to install UTX and then in the control panel for it you can enable/disable all of the options you want to use. Just leave landclass enabled! Probably not worth shelling out for it now though unless money is no object, OpenLC EU is imminent and NA will be next.
  12. You need to use a download manager. I never use one, except when I download from ORBX. Every download I try and make from ORBX without the use of a download manager will fail. I don't know why, but I'm guessing their servers can't handle the capacity. A download manager as Novation says allows the download to be "resumed" automatically once that disconnection happens. I use and recommend "Free Download Manager", does the job perfectly for me.
  13. As a massive football (soccer) fan....great job!
  14. Oscar - that doesn't sound like anything that will be caused by either ASN or REX. ASN just injects weather and REX is direct texture replacement for clouds, water etc, just replacing FSX default textures with new ones. Have you installed the latest ORBX Libraries after installing FTX Global? This is important to do after installing any ORBX product, and would be my first suggestion for why you're having issues. Get the latest libraries here, install and report back. http://fullterrain.com/support.html
  15. I will try this later and report back. I can't get acceptable frame rates unless I go on unlimited so I have abandoned trying to limit frame rates. Never thought to try such a strange figure though!
  16. Not sure what traffic package you're using but I use UT2 which takes a little while (sometimes up to a minute) for all the AI aircraft to appear when you first load a flight. If I start up at the gate at UK2000 Heathrow, I will have FPS of around 18, but as soon as my 75% UT2 traffic kicks in it will be about 10.
  17. Unlimited every day of the week for me. Tried every possible combination and range of settings and always go back to unlimited. Higher frames and smoother.
  18. RIP. Sad to hear of any fellow aviation lovers losing their lives.
  19. Just one quick shot, really enjoying larking around over ORBX England in this as I discover the joys of GA flight!
  20. Thanks. What are your thoughts on using it without rudder pedals? Can you just turn the yoke left and right and control the rudder that way when on the ground, to taxi?
  21. Hi Todd Actually the airbus is the only thing I fly that doesn't have a yoke in real life. I fly the 777, NGX, A320 and lately have been diving into GA so looking at the A2A Cessna which I feel a yoke would really complement!
  22. Hi All I'd like to make my flights a bit more realistic by replacing my joystick with a yoke, however I have a couple of questions: Would it replace a joystick altogether or would it need to be used alongside a joystick? I don't have room for rudder pedals, would I be able to taxi using the yoke left and right? I'm guessing not, and if that's the case I may need to use it alongside a twist yoke joystick to taxi? Will a yoke work with the Aerosoft A320? And can anyone recommend a setup that doesn't cost the earth but has the basic functionality I need? Thanks in advance
