  1. Interesting the experiences we all have. My XP - even with Xvision - seems too bright in daylight. I'd like a little more darkness and contrast, but monitor adjustments don't seem to do it. Still very enjoyable regardless. Ron
  2. Just a word about the "VFR Landmarks" package mentioned above. It installs easy enough, and did populate the landscape with lots of new objects; and the few local ones I saw seemed to be in the correct places. Unfortunately, almost all of the objects seem to be wildly out of scale; and so I had to delete it. Looks like I will need to generate my own at some point. Ron
  3. Thanks, everyone! I'll check out WED, and the ORG for more info. Loving XP11 so far. I'm a VFR / GA guy; so it fits my style really well.
  4. Thanks, guys. I'm not quite ready to bake orthos yet - but that will come soon. 🙂
  5. Hi, all. I finally made the jump over to XP11 this weekend, and with very little effort, I have to say I am impressed. I have actually been flying instead of buying and tweaking things. My local little 3D airports are quite recognizable; and with the scenery detail cranked up I even saw a hospital complex along a highway north of me. And that brings up my question... I would love to add a few landmarks (power plants along rivers, shopping centers, etc) to make VFR a little more realistic. I know there are programs to modify airports. Is there anything that could add the types of objects I am thinking of - "off airport"? Thanks. Looking forward to exploring this sim. Ron
  6. Wow! You are fast, John. Thank you. The city of Reading could use a bit of work, but overall the area looks okay. I guess I will start my DL of XP 11 tonight! Best regards, Ron
  7. Nice shots, John. You are very close to my home area. I sent you a PM with a screenshot favor request. Keep 'em coming!
  8. Hi, John.

I was very interested in your screenshots around PA and VA.  Could you do me a favor?  I would love to see some screenshots between CKZ (Pennridge) and RDG (Reading) in SE Penna.  I am on the verge of ordering XP11, and this could push me over the edge if it looks at all realistic.

    Thanks, and Happy Flying!

Ok, I will set up a flight, remember from my posts I am using a freeware addon for Xplane11 which adds more depth and density to the forests, as they should look in real life, from Simheaven.

I usually fly over photoscenery in Xplane11 that I have created but with the forests I am gobbling up a lot of air miles around the beautiful Appalachian Mountains where I have flown two light aircraft, one out of Pegasus Airfield in PA, a Luscombe, and the other a Eurofox out of Harrisburg.  I had to fly into Philly in Baltimore to fly with my two friends in those aircraft, my flight out of Pegasus near Stroudsburg was a dream because it was the only time I took off from a grass strip as pilot in command of a taildragger.

My friend had to land for me because the landing was tricky, over some 50 foot tall trees and he had to plant the Luscombe on the grass so it had enough runway to stop, he actually was able to stop halfway down the grass field, an excellent taildragger pilot a bit older than me.  I stayed in his log cabin home overnight, I was supposed to fly with him the day before and drive back with him to my hotel in Philly, but the weather was not cooperative for flying that night, we had to wait for a break in the weather in the morning.

But the break did not last long, I only flew his Luscombe thirty minutes, because a new set of thunderstorms were moving in on us, we saw embedded lightning in the clouds.  So we landed, went to breakfast, and he drove me back to Philly where I spent the night and flew home the next day, I went swimming when I got there to unwind.  That Luscombe flight was my last fixed wing flight, I moved to trikes after that and I have been a trike pilot since.

  9. Used FS 9.1 for many years - skipped FSX completely. Still flying P3D3 with no issues. No plans to upgrade. Different strokes for different folks! :-)
  10. Stew, thank you very much for the link. While this was helpful, it didn't solve the problem. It turns out to be a documented conflict with UT. Someone else posted pics (last year) of the same faulty tiles I saw. Disabling two files in the scenery fixes it. Very grateful for all the simmers who help each when things like this come up! Ron
  11. Hi, Stew. Do you happen to have a link? A few searches in the Support forum didn't turn up anything. This is what I am seeing: https://www.flickr.com/photos/139072828@N08/35493008796/in/album-72157662437693000/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/139072828@N08/35493008566/in/album-72157662437693000/
  12. Sorry - this is for v3. I should have mentioned that. I'll try your idea. Ron
  13. I am using UT for roads / railroads. Everything else is all Orbx - Global Base, LC NA, etc. No other local scenery. Weirdest thing I've come across. Ron Edit: I'm still going to fly here - it's beautiful. But it would be nicer to fix it! :-)
  14. In the photos below, does anyone know if this is a P3D issue, Orbx issue, or something else? Google is not my friend so far... Thanks, Ron https://www.flickr.com/photos/139072828@N08/35493008796/in/album-72157662437693000/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/139072828@N08/35493008566/in/album-72157662437693000/
  15. Hello, all. I run P3D v3.3. I recently installed the newish "Bar Harbor" airport scenery. It is beautiful - I love the realism it gives the whole area. However, I noticed several "land tiles" in the water just SE of the Harbor; heading out into open ocean. One has trees! There is also another on on the SW side of Mt Desert Island; in the Narrows. Google did not turn up anything; so I'm wondering what would cause such an issue? I use UT for roads; but everything else is Orbx; and Central and the Library are up-to-date. Thank you! Ron
  16. It was actually the F1 Mustang. I was typing on my tablet, and pulled that out of somewhere other than my brain... It's a very nice bird; but my machine just wasn't up for it. This isn't a complaint about anything; just an observation. Ron
  17. On a whim, I decided to fly the Falcon on a short CC into KORD last evening. Yikes! My poor old machine did not like that experience very much. I didn't turn on the FPS, but it had to be high single digits; or low doubles. I suppose I could turn down all my sliders; but I'll probably just stick with my piston Duke until I hit the Lottery someday. :-)
  18. I own GEP3D - which I was a huge fan of. But I have stopped using it in favor of FTX Global Base and OpenLC NA. The only difference is that I use the UTX products instead of FTX Vector. You can read the pros and cons; but I am happy with UTX; especially after tweaking it. You may still want a mesh product - like FreeMesh X. I had FS Genesis for years; but switched to free products like this one. Good luck! These products greatly enhance the flying experience; especially if you fly "low and slow" like me. Ron
  19. Can anyone tell me where the flight plan files are saved? (Plans created by the P3d Flight Planner.) I've looked around, and searched the forum, but didn't see that exact item. Thanks. Ron
  20. Well, folks...after a couple weeks of being away from P3d because of work and other distractions, I finally got a chance to get back to my "night fires" problems. I am happy to report that PTA - along with picking the correct night lighting - pretty much solved the problem! I have seen some screenshots that look better than what I have; but this is a huge improvement from what I had earlier. It is kind of a pain to experiment in PTA over and over - but it has such a great selection of options that eventually everything looks amazing. So thanks for all the earlier suggestions. I can now do night flying again; and not land at dusk! :-) Ron
  21. Provided I understand your question, on my setup, the '9' and '0' key tilt up/down. Actual QWERT keyboard; not the numberpad. I don't recall if that is default, or if I mapped those in. Ron
  22. What I think is the major advancement over the years is accuracy. More geography, better textures, more parts of the world, better flight models. Granted, the steps are sometimes small. But I am flying in a world that I recognize! Not green lines on a black screen - which I loved at the time! :-) Ron
  23. Gregg, and friends, It appears to be the ground textures. Actual street lighting looks to be separate, and changes depending on which settings I have on or off. I'll take a look at FTX Central, and see if anything there helps. Ron
