  1. No regrets at all - I am thrilled. But I came from an FS9.1 system that was tweaked out years ago. P3D is like a breath of fresh air. It will tax your system if you want all the bells and whistles. Good luck. Ron
  2. It would be interesting to hear if people using older graphic cards are seeing the same dark cloud shadows as in the screenies - which I assume are using newer 900 series cards. I am not. The contrast and saturation looks great, but my cloud shadows are quite subtle. I have everything checked for "receive shadows", and increased the distance slider. (i5 2500 @ 3.7Ghz, GTX 460 / 1GB. It actually runs P3d quite well) Ron
  3. Let me add my thanks for a very professionally done, and useful addon! I am not seeing the dramatic cloud shadows that some have posted, but I do like the overall effect to the colors and contrast. (I also have a scenario in progress, so additional tests later may show more differences.) Job well done! Ron
  4. Bill, I went from 3.0 to 3.2 myself. I was / am happy with both. I did not notice any radical differences, but depending on your machine and flying habits, you might. Ron
  5. Agree with you. NoCal and SoCal regions are truly amazing. But around LA and a couple of other places, it really starts to shudder on my rig...
  6. Thanks, guys. Following this thread closely - the screenies look very tempting!
  7. All, I barely know how to find the Shader files. LOL I have never attempted to delete or modify them. Would someone be so kind as to explain to us non-techno types how to install / set up this "Shader Pack"? Thanks! Ron
  8. Like others here, I have been sim-flying since the green-lines-on-black-background days. :-) Since my last full installation was a fully tweaked-out FS9.1 setup; I am extremely happy with my P3d v3.2. I personally don't see the need to go any further than this for the foreseeable future - except to add scenery and aircraft. Everything is in place to enjoy a scenic flight almost anywhere in the world; or to practice and improve my piloting skills. Modern technology is pretty cool! Ron
  9. On a (I think) related issue - what about aircraft nav lights? Even in daylight, I have these huge glowing orbs on the aircraft that you can see miles away. Very unrealistic. Anyone know of a fix for those? (I assume it's AI planes - never tried looking at my own plane from a distance.) Ron
  10. I really liked those mods that Gino mentioned, but on my monitor, I had way too much banding in the colors - had to remove it. :-( Using Soft Clouds. Ron
  11. Jeff, You may want to back off your Scenery sliders to the center positions until you find out what your system can handle. And you can't run Vector and UTX together - at least under normal circumstances. I use UTX. Good luck! Ron
  12. I downloaded FEX yesterday (never tried it before). I tried to run the installer, and it immediately crashed, and said something about files were missing. Anyone else run into this? Thanks, Ron
  13. Nope. Actual objects in a nice rectangular array. Looks like windows without the physical building around them.
  14. In my v3.0, if I look directly behind the Arch in St Louis (towards the city) I see several floors of what look like floating windows - no building there at all. Does anyone else see this? Is it there in v3.1? I wonder what other "Easter Eggs" (intended or otherwise) are in P3D? Ron
  15. Robb, Thanks very much for this advice! I haven't started anything yet; but this makes a lot of sense from other types of software that I've used. Ron
  16. Hi. This may be the wrong forum, but I want to learn ADE to upgrade my airport. But I also would like to upgrade the scenery around town near the airport. What software would I use, and where can I find some direction on how to do that? Thanks! Ron
  17. Artur, Based on some other threads, check the "Dynamic Reflections" setting. If this is set at the high end, move ot down and see if that helps. Just a guess... Good luck. Ron
  18. OK, that makes sense. Thanks. Pete, besides comparing features, I would have set up one with my customized GEX; and one with FTX / Orbx. Like I said, just curious... Ron
  19. I did a quick search of topics, but did see this discussed... I currently fly v3.0. Everything is fine. When v3.2 comes out, can I install it alongside my existing setup? Can you share scenery between two versions? Nothing urgent; just curious. Ron
  20. I knew someone here had more knowledge than me. Thanks, everyone - this was a big help. Vic your install seems like exactly what I want to do. Any words of wisdom so I don't screw it up!? Ron
  21. Thanks, guys. I was pretty sure that the two vector programs could not be used together. My concern was if Orbx Vector was doing something more for the scenery than what UTX2 is doing. My main problem is the two texture sets - I don't know what each of the two is loading into the program; so I don;t know what to swap to keep things clean if I switch back and forth. Is it only the World / Scenery / Texture files that matter? Or is it more than that? Any scenery people here know the answer? Ron
  22. Looking for some advise... I own both FTX Global textures and GEP3D (GEX) textures. I also use UTXv2. I prefer the GEP3D / UTX2 combination for the east / northeast US scenery where I spend much of my time flying. However, I would like to try the Orbx California & Alaska Regions for the times I fly the west coast; as I am fairly sure it will improve the scenery there. Is there a fairly painless way to switch between the two textures sets without screwing up P3D? And do I also need FTX Vector if using the Orbx west coast regions? Edit: I am fairly sure each install has the P3D default textures as their backups - although at this point I can't be sure... Any help is greatly appreciated! Ron
