I haven't posted anything here is a long time, but thought I'd ask simmers here.

When I found myself retired in 2018, I built a computer to use for P3D, but I have now started using MSFS.  So far I really hate the camera controls, but eventually I'll figure it out.

I built a pretty good system (for it's time) with a 9700K, 32GB RAM but stuck an old GTX 1070 in the build, and running a 1080p monitor.  I can't afford to upgrade the whole system now, but wondered if I moved to a faster 1440p monitor if the 1070 could handle it or I should bite the bullet and pick up a 4070Ti super (still a cringe at the cost) or just wait until the new Blackwell cards release and just rebuild the entire machine.

Just bought a Z390 Gaming Edge AC board for my wife's new computer, and so far no issues.  She is running a 9600K and RTX 2060 Super.

It was a little more expensive for the lower CL, but should translate to better quality chips on the RAM.  3200 MHz seemed a good balance for performance and cost.

CPU running in low-mid 50's in P3D (4.7 GHz, 1080p monitor).  I will think about a video card after the nVidia 3000 series are released. 

Too late to keep me sane.  Tried my first full flight from KPDX-KLAX with mostly high settings.  Had FSDT KLAX running, frames dropped to about 19 on short final, so might need to adjust some settings, but still fairly smooth.

Now that I have retired, I have been scrounging through this forum, PC Parts Picker and You Tube looking at posts on building my first computer.  The old computer's MOBO and PSU were failing, but used the graphics card from it in the new build. I decided on the following components:

Phanteks P600S case (larger than I expected)

Gigabyte Aorus Pro Z390 MOBO

Seasonic 850W Modular PSU

Intel i7 9700K

32GB 3200MHz CL14 Ram

Noctua NH-U12A cooler

EVGA GTX 1070 FTW

500GB, 1TB NVMe's

4TB HDD

It took me last weekend to assemble, which was mostly straightforward.  I did struggle snaking the SATA cables.

Then onto the software install, which I have been doing slowly and methodically.

I have not put a OC on the CPU, but it is turbo boosting at 4.6 GHz at 1.13 volts.  For a test, I loaded a PMDG 737 at Fly Tampa KLAS with ORBX SoCal and using moderately high settings in P3D.  This scenario would put me at 18 fps on my old machine, but the new one is running 46 fps and not breaking a sweat (1080p).  CPU is 50C, 1070 at 60-62C

The hardest part has been trying to reinstall all the addons and emails to help desks.

I am mostly worried about all my internet bookmarks and email folders being transferred to the new computer, I can live with a new OS install and all the other programs.

I do have a data transfer cable and wondered if I could use that to migrate the stuff from my Chrome browser.

Well, my old computer is on it's last legs ( power and MOBO issues), so I am going to be building a new system.

I am thinking (hoping?) I can pull my Samsung SATA drive out of the old machine, install it temporarily onto the new machine and clone that drive to a new Samsung NVME drive on the new computer using Samsung magician, then remove to old SATA drive.

My questions are:

1.  Will that work?

2. I need to uninstall P3D and deactivate the license before I do this?

3. Any other flight sim files to uninstall? (PMDG, Aerosoft, ORBX ,etc)

4.  If I clone the drive, will the new drive remember my bookmarks in Chrome, etc?

5. Any "Oh poop" things to look out for?

What was the fix, if you don't mind sharing?

Maybe dump the 240 GB ADATA SATA drive and get a 2-3 TB HDD.  With the 2 NVMe drives, use the smaller one for your operating system and the larger one for the flight sim files.  The HDD for data back-up.

Just seems like the builder is adding some extras that you may not need.  Maybe try to talk to them directly, tell them what you are looking for and haggle the price, if you can.

I would suggest using NVME drives over SATA, they can be faster.  I think the Maximus has 802.11ac wifi card built into the motherboard already.  You might want to consider going for a 1TB NVME drive over the 500GB. 

I recently replaced my OS Win 7 Pro with Win 10 Pro.

Did a clean install of P3D, then started re installing add-ons.  When I first tried to install the NGX (after uninstalling via control panel), I installed and first did not have any -600 or -700 WL models.  So uninstall NGX and reinstall.  I am now missing the gauges and the aircraft is not initializing, see attached.

Just wondering how to correct the install.  Thanks.

I am using the slider of the throttle for the thrust lever.  When I initially load in, the throttle is at idle, but when I advance it then pull back to idle, the throttle remains stuck about haflway in the NGX (and default Piper Cub).  I assign the throttle axis in P3D, but it will not retract to idle unless I hit the "f2" key.

I am stumped and wondered if anyone has suggestions on a remedy.  It worked well prior to installing the add-ons.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Fixed it.  I had to go to the settings menu in Navigraph and change the folder from C:  Prepar3D to D: Prepar3D. 

Well, rats.  I just did a full re-install of P3D last weekend on a new SSD and spent a lot of time installing the ORBX stuff, Flightbeam, FSDT, ASP4 and PMDG  737/ 777.  Back to square one this weekend.

Thanks, Kevin.  I did set the path to there in Navigraph FMS manager.  Crossing my fingers to see if that fixes it.

I purchased a 1TB M.2 drive to add to my computer.  I uninstalled P3D v4, the PMDG aircraft, the scenery files, etc.

I next did a full install of P3D v4 on my "new" drive (drive D) and kept the OS on drive C.  I installed the PMDG NGX and 777 to P3D and see it on the new D drive, but I also see the PMDG file on my C drive under Prepar3D and PMDG is the only entry under that folder.

I also have the same folder on the new D drive in P3D.

I tried to update the nav data using Navigraph FMS Data manager, but the aircraft is still stuck on the 2011 AIRAC.

Do I delete the PMDG entry on the C drive or is that where I point Navigraph?

Try C:\Prepar3D v4\PMDG\Flightplans, unless you installed P3D to Program files.

EFB will work with P3D, just need to change the path where it reads from from FSX to P3D.

Active Sky will require a new program, Active Sky for P3D.  AS16 will not work on the 64 bit program.

I don't use FSCommander.

I generally like like Froogle's videos, but the latest one was a "bit" of hyperbole.

I did pony up the $$ for the Professional License for P3D v4, and a lot of that was based on one of his videos, which made sense to me.  Some simmers spend thousands of dollars on their rigs to run, then don't want to spend $200 on the base program for their add ons doesn't make a lot a sense to me.

For example, I was looking at one You Tuber who does some videos about flying the different aircraft (with New Testament passages, even), has a "sponsor" and Patreon link in his channel, yet is running an academic license P3D.  IMHO that is the type that should not be using an academic license.

FSW and DTG, I don't see them doing what Froogle espoused in last Sunday's news. 

I have owned the CS 757 and QW757 in FSX and I did plunk down the money for the P3D v4 version.  I think it is a better aircraft to fly than the QW version and does have continuing support.

I do not know what you interpret as study level, but it does fly quite well in P3D v4.  I do not think it models system failures though, but the flight model seems accurate.  I do have to make some adjustments to the FMC when I import a flight plan in from P3D.

Is it worth it is something you will have to ask yourself.  I do enjoy flying it.

The CS team have been addressing customer issues as they bring them up ( they have a very responsive forum you can browse).  It does seem to consume more fuel than the PFPX profile models, so I usually add 20% to the PFPX fuel calculation.

It did work for me in v4.1 and now in 4.2.

I have moved on to P3D v4.2 and have the NGX installed.  I do not use the default ATC in P3D.

Since flying the NGX, I keep hearing the Morse code for the Localizer ( I guess) when I am sitting at a gate at departure or starting my approach.  What the heck do I need to do to turn it off?  What dial/ switch on the radio stack kills it?  It is really bugging me.
