    Win10

I have 10 on my laptop, and I dislike it. Maybe it'll get better with the next update - but for now, my main PC stays on 7.
  2. Actually, the ROG boards (and, but this would need to be verified, all the Asus Z170 boards) can emulate PS2 from any USB mouse and keyboard, don't worry about it.
  3. As long as you install from a DVD and not a USB drive, you'll be fine. As for me, I had a lot of trouble because I decided that I would migrate my current W7 install to a whole new computer without reinstalling. That's a very, very complex task that you shouldn't undertake unless you know exactly what you're doing (and then again, I had a lot of trouble).
  4. I just built my new rig with very similar specs. I recommend getting the non-Alpha version of the Maximus VIII Hero board, as you'll save money, the only thing the Alpha has over the other is RGB headers. The board has extremely good on-board audio, I'd ditch the sound card. Not a big fan of the case, but then again that's a very personal choice. Also, I'd still go one PC with 2 monitors. That's what I do, and this setup absolutely has enough power to run everything at the same time. That'll save you a very big chunk of money.
  5. Well, migrating Win7 to my new Skylake build wasn't an easy task by any means, but I'm happy to report that it runs very comfortably at 4.5GHz and 1.270v, and my DDR4 is sitting at 3200MHz on the XMP profile. The ROG motherboard is just so great for overclocking. And the Samsung 950 Pro SSD is an absolute monster. I bought the Intel replacement plan at the same time as the CPU, I'll let it settle at 4.5 for a couple of weeks, and then I'll really push it.
  6. I love this argument. I agree the integrated graphics are just taking up space - but the rest is very interesting. It's a point I debated a lot before I made the investment. It came down to wanting the best bang for my buck, considering cost was an object, and the Canadian dollar is quite low, my system came down to roughly the same as if I bought it in USD. Although the 6700k's cost was around the same as the 5820k, the motherboard would have been 40% more expensive, and that with all considered the 6700k has more IPC than the 5820k, which is what counts more and more for modern software. 6 cores will help for heavy video editing (which I don't do) and extreme multitasking, which is above my needs. I consider myself a power user, but I don't have nearly the needs of a guy like you, Rob (I do however drool at your system and the videos you post). Besides, I want to run SLIx2 but that's about where it stops. In the end, I don't have enough free time to be on the computer to justify a system worth more than $2000.
  7. A Corsair 330R Blackout because I hate noise. About the de-lidding, I didn't know that and it seems nice, but I'm not pushing enough for it to be worth anything to me.
  8. Here's what I'm currently building: 6700k Because you can't go wrong with the latest. Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero The ROG boards are using top-shelf components and get more stability on faster OCs. Corsair H100i v2 I like closed loop coolers, but it's a love it or hate it thing. I ran my previous 2600k at 4.6 for four years without breaking a sweat with an Antec small closed loop cooler. GSkill Ripjaws V Because I used hundreds of these sticks, rarely had a problem, and had great support from GSkill. Have DDR4-2400MHz because Skylake benefits very marginally from OCd RAM and I couldn't justify the price difference. Samsung 850 Evo Consistently great. Might add an M2 drive eventually. MSI GTX970 Gaming Because I already have it - waiting for Pascal to upgrade. Where I will disagree with the current train of thought is in the PSU department. Too many people decide to go the cheaper route when the PSU is actually the backbone of the system, and a cheap one can have extreme consequences. I went with a Seasonic Platinum 860, but around the same performance and quality can be found for cheaper with the EVGA P2. I went with the Seasonic because it has TWO line filters and my current fluctuates a bit too much at home. I'd steer clear of the Corsair HX series, the quality seems to have gone down quite a bit. No one could convince me to de-lid a Skylake CPU, but then again I'm more of a moderate overclocker, will probably run my 6700k at 4.6.
  9. I'm not sure I understand the point of this. In Canada, working up all the way to ATPL-eligible is a 1.5-year, $70,000 affair if you do it full-time, you still have 1-2 years to do as a CFI, and then you get to the same point, minus that you have to apply yourself to airlines.
  10. Well, PMDG doesn't owe you anything, even if you own all their products. I've bought thousands of dollars from my local grocery store, and I pay the same price as someone who never bought anything there. You're free to vote with your wallet. If you think the product is overpriced, you can walk away - but criticizing the company is uncalled for. To me, it's fully worth the asking price.
  11. VAC is pretty great too. Also fully integrated with Simbrief and PFPX. http://vacanada.org/v6/en/
  12. Great news, I was waiting for this since I switched to v3. Off to fly it.
  13. I finished a CYYZ-EGLL flight this morning, 0.1SM visibility and had to autoland (I think it was my 3rd or 4th lifetime autoland in the T7).
  14. I'm waiting for the Christmas sale to buy KSFOv2, the only Flightbeam scenery I don't have, and even not on special it's $29. I'm not paying that much for what looks pretty bad in screenshots.
  15. Knowing your propension for the highest quality PC parts on Earth, Rob, I can't recommend PFC products enough. It'll change your whole simming experience.
  16. Emergency will be a free upgrade? Wow! What a great product Bryan.
  17. Absolutely go with a Z97. You can't skimp on the motherboard - after all, it's the backbone of the PC. The 4690K is excellent for P3D. Also, get at least a 650W 80 Plus power supply and a good CPU cooling system if you plan on overclocking.
  18. This looks absolutely gorgeous. Do you anticipate the P3D version being available at the same time as the FSX one, or will they be staggered?
  19. I still stand by my point - given the tight relationship between Boeing and PMDG, and the fact that they are aiming to be a major airline training partner, I'm convinced the 787 is the logical following aircraft. A 767 remains possible, but I'd bet on the 787. Also, whatever it turns out to be, first day buy.
  20. Good deal at that price. If you have the money to get it and not cut corners elsewhere, do it.
  21. I use TOPCAT with the 77F profile. Everything is spot on except for the speeds, for which I use those given by the FMS.
  22. I also do, mainly due to the stellar customer service I get from them. Once in a while I get a bad stick, and they send me a replacement as soon as I give them a tracking number for the outgoing one.
