  1. The other trick that works with the B744 is to spot view and then swing a 360° around the plane. Suddenly the FPS jumps from 5 FPS to mid-high 20s when locked at 30. Somehow this trick doesn't work with the B738 ... But let me lament no more ... ... while "I saw the crescent, you saw the whole of the moon" ♪♫ plays in the background!
  2. I'll wait ... silently, patiently, enduringly, and above all, submissively ...
  3. I most definitely didn't switch to P3D4 for dynamic lights ... it was for a smoother, more reliable platform of which the shadows are a bonus. The lights worked just fine in FSX and there was no pressing issue to change that - and BTW the runway and approach lights in FSX are by far more realistic than in P3D4. For the same perplexity I have regarding the addon.xml files and scenery files all over the place if there was no need to change that as well. Don't know where P3D is heading with this, but as they say in the movies, "Let's see" Only inboard, outboard, and taxi lights. The rest has no impact ... and why is it that only the PMDG aircraft have this phenomenon and no other aircraft when you switch landing lights on? PS: After being spoiled in FSX having almost 300 payware airports, going back to default airports is like comparing the animation in Ratatouille with Tom&Jerry and what should we as customers do when a distributor / designer says "it is P3D4 compatible" and then you read on forums that some scenery were not done with P3D4 SDK ... how should we know except when you pay dollars for an airport and then it stutters under Dynamic Lights? <sigh>
  4. "AMEN!" to that Branko! As I said before, imagine PMDG aircraft in FSX would only work with BLOOM switched on ...? Why then the only aircraft in P3D4 with this precondition? We just have to accept it because lamentable they will not change their models. I'm not sure LM will change their code in order to accommodate PMDG aircraft.
  5. Jip, they have an open beta for ObjectFlow and when you install it, you can download all your ORBX airports including their LOWI P3D4 version. 1. Log in to your OrbxDirect account. 2. Go to the Fastlane page: https://orbxdirect.com/account/fastlane 3. Click "opt-in to Fastlane" 4. Start FTX Central. You will be prompted to update to FTX Central version 3.2.2. 5. You should now see all of your airports for Prepar3D v4 in FTX Central. When starting the simulator, click "yes" when it asks if you want to run ObjectFlow 2
  6. 4K monitors/TVs are ridiculously expensive in South Africa
  7. Okay, I've just ran this scenario - PMDG B738 at LOWI (ORBX) - DSR OFF DAY / DL OFF / 4xSSAA / FPS locked at 30 = 24/26 FPS NIGHT / DL ON / 8xMSAA / FPS locked at 30 = 18/20 FPS The moment I switch the landing and taxi lights on = -10 with 8/10 FPS But PMDG is the ONLY aircraft in my library where you need DL to have landing lights ... what a complete joke! Second scenario - PMDG B738 at LOWI (ORBX) - DSR ON DAY / DL OFF / 4xSSAA / FPS locked at 30 = 25/29 FPS NIGHT / DL ON / 8xMSAA / FPS locked at 30 = 18/20 FPS The moment you swich L&T lights on = BANG!! below 10FPS [read hysterical laughter!!] The only difference I really notice is LESS shimmering ... my FPS stays more or less the same. What really, really impacts the FPS with DL on is (still) the PMDG landing and taxi lights - with or without MSAA And so we are back to the very first post on this thread ......
  8. I've now tried to upload a picture for the last hour in ALL different formats but AVSIM does not like this and doesn't like that ... and the webpage I've used before, now wants $20 to upload pictures. I don't understand why it is soooooooo difficult to just upload a picture directly but anyway - no photo, sorry. Okay, I'll switch it off and as they say in the movies, "Let's see" ... because, as I said, everything runs flat out on my rig with 4xSSAA without DL and then it is only DL + HDR that will hit the FPS down the basement. Without HDR, even 8xMSAA becomes a joke with shimmering. But I'll give it one more try.
  9. One thing I have to add is the fact that I use DSR 2.00x in Nvidia Control Panel and that greatly reduces shimmering as well. For FSX my Nvidia Inspector settings have eliminated ALL shimmering and there is none whatsoever.
  10. During the day, and DL turned off, my settings are 4xSSAA and there is hardly any shimmering. As we all know, DL and SSAA are not friends at all. When you want to fly at night and have taxi and landing lights, then you need DL and for that to happen you need to downscale to MSAA but then everything is nauseously flickering, glittering, shimmering all the way EXCEPT if you have a 4K monitor then the guys reported that there are no shimmering when going down to MSAA. I'll try and take a screenshot tonight to illustrate what I mean.
  11. Sjoewheeeee ... and I can't leave you children alone for a couple of hours and you break down the house My request was only that PMDG (seeing that their aircraft are the ONLY aircraft where you need to have DL on for landing and taxi lights to work) to work on a model where everything works regardless of DL or not. Imagine you had to turn BLOOM on in FSX in order for landing lights to work? But I get it, they won't. No need for any discussion on that anymore. P3D4 is the future forward although I'm still very happy with having my FSX as well seeing that I have almost 300 payware sceneries that will take decades if not centuries for P3D to catch up to have the same library of detailed airports. Flying to default airports, is like going back to Walt Disney Cartoons when you are used to Pixar Animated movies. And my FSX is running as smooth as a baby's cheeks with no OOMs for years if you just follow a few rules. RE LM: What I don't get is the new addon.xml scenery method that was no pressing issue to change ... it would have been no problem to have a separate scenery folder outside P3D4 but let the scenery.cfg file be the umbilical cord with the engine. Now we have scenery files all over the place and more then one scenery.cfg file just like the silly idea to have dll.xml and exe.xml files in two different folders. But that's way off topic. It would have been much more appreciated if LM at least worked on the coastline errors because believe it or not, they are the same errors since FS9 .
  12. Glad to hear that LM is working on an improvement ... the moment I switch back to MSAA the shimmering is unbearable. During the day my settings are on 4xSSAA and almost all sliders VERY HIGH or MAX and with FPS locked at 30 almost all aircraft maintain 29/30FMS all the way with a slight drop at heavy 3rd party airports - but switch those DL on and glug glug glug there goes the FPS and with it performance. But, as they say in the movies, "LET'S SEE" what LM will come up with. ====== Edited: The thing is that those with 4K monitors have almost no shimmering with MSAA and therefore easy to turn down, but for our pure mortals with standard monitors, the p...ri_s|/e is just too high.
  13. I know many others have requested this as well, but may I add my voice to a kind request ... Will you please, PLEASE, consider flight models for the B738, B777, and B744 where the landing and taxi lights work WITHOUT having to turn Dynamic Lights on in P3D4? Then those with NASA super computers and 4K monitors can have all the joy of landing lights + dynamic lights, and the rest of us with only i7 4GHz 32GB RAM and 1070GTX 8GB video cards can also have the joy of landing and taxi lights that work. It will really, REALLY be appreciated ... because I doubt if LM will come up with a fix or an alternative solution to this nonsensical FPS glutton! Hopeful for a positive response.
  14. Apparently it has something to do with 'polycount' ... whatever that means. But if it is, then Carenado should seriously look into it. I take note of the above mentioned, and can go into the detail of my GPU and CPU count, as well as my specs but IMHO it has no relevance if everything else is running smoothly in both FSX and P3D4 - and that includes all PMDG, Aerosoft, and FSLabs aircraft. Why will only (some) Carenado aircraft have this huge hit on FPS? But for the record, my CPU is an i7 4GHz with a 1070GTX and 32GB RAM on Windows 7 x64.
  15. Is there anyone that could help with my question ...? Lately the Carenado aircraft, on my rig at least, have terrible FPS. I have a very decent setup with a 1070GTX and with FPS locked at 30, it pretty much holds steady at 30 even with the PMDG aircraft. But if I go to same airport ... let's take KIDA airport from Turbulent Designs ... and park the PMDG B738 on the tarmac the FPS hover between 29 and 30 while locked at 30. Now you startup with the 690B TURBO COMMANDER {LITE} and the FPS is 20-22 FPS. Throw in real weather with clouds and rain and the PMDG drop to 27-29 (still locked at 30) whil the 690TC drops below 20 and hardly breaks the 20 barrier. While taking off with the B738 the FPS jumps back to 29-30 FPS and the 690TC hardly touches 20 and remains below 20. And that's with Dynamic (don't let me swear) Lights OFF during the day. My settings during the day is 4xSSAA enabled with cloud shadows on My settings during the night is 4xMSAA enabled with cloud shadows off It's the same with the Cheyenne II {LITE} and most of the latest Carenado and Alabeo aircraft - bad FPS during the day and horrible FPS at night. The 500S COMMANDER and Navajo performs effortless in P3D4 and no drop in FPS. My question is - if my P3D4 is tuned to give me very good to excellent FPS with PMDG aircraft, then why are (above mentioned) Carenado aircraft so heavy on the FPS? Or am I the only one having this issue?
  16. ......... and it seems, what we've gained from FSX to P3D we've lost in shimmering. It's an annoying fact if you don't have a 4K monitor - which I don't plan to buy soon.
  17. Turn the glutton Dynamic Lights OFF and pump up your graphics to 4xSSAA and see if it makes a difference ... Look at @lodestar settings above.
  18. My CPU is a bit on the 'old' side i7 4790 3.6GHz with 32GB RAM with a GTX1070 (8GB) the rest of my P3D4 settings are ....... [DISPLAY] The same as yours except AA on 4xSSAA during the day and 2xSSAA at night DL = OFF [WORLD] Level of detail = MAX TF = HIGH Mesh = 2m TR = 7cm Scenery Complex = DENSE Autogen = HIGH Autogen Veg & Buiding = NORMAL Special FX = MEDIUM [LIGHTING] HDR = OFF [it looks unnatural and eat FPS] and I use PTA DL = OFF Shadow Quality = LOW Shadow Draw = MED Internal External Vehicle = CAST & RECEIVE Clouds = CAST [WEATHER] Same as yours PS: in the prepar3d.cfg I still have the following because on my rig it does make a difference. [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=85
  19. I'm a long, LOOOOONG way from uninstalling FSX simply because I have 287 payware airports in my library and there is NO way in heaven or hell that P3D4 will get to that number in the next 10 years and going back to default airports is just not going to happen for me soon. That's what I refer to when I talk about the shimmering in P3D ... 4xSSAA does help but "when the night comes ..." ♪♫ {Bryan Adams} then all dies a sudden death and you're back on MS&A or kill the DL before the last breath settles in. Are you on a 4K monitor ...?
  20. Say what you want P3D4 ... this is what my FSX looks like on a normal day! As I said - the only thing missing is cloud and cockpit shadows. For the rest my FSX hasn't had an OOM for years and it runs pretty much 30 FPS locked all the way. Just for juice - this was a few nights ago ... FSX, Tromso (Aerosoft), NorwayLC (ORBX), PMDG 738
  21. 100% with you on this one ... I haven't had any OOMs for years since abiding by two rules: Only activate departure and destination airport At heavies like EDDF and EGLL drop the water to 1x Locked 30 and maintaining 30 day AND night. The only thing missing are cloud and cockpit shadows. That's it. P3D4 looks great but performance wise my FSX kicks P3D4's a$$ big time ...
  22. The thing is that I don't have a 4K monitor because they are ridiculously expensive in South Africa. During the day, as I said in first post, the FPS are steady and locked except for the irritating shimmering in P3D that I don't have in FSX at all ... flying however at night in P3D4 on my PC at least, is a nightmare. And because I'm one of a chorus of voices raising this issue, it cannot be my setup specific, as I was hoping to fix it when I bought the 1070 (also expensive) just to realise instead of 8-10 FPS on the GTX750, I now get 20 FPS at night. It's actually quite laughable = $800 (GTX1070) + $200 (P3D4) + B744 ($135) + B738 ($90) = $1225 later and I have to whirl to a forum to ask for help.
  23. Yip ... twice now. With the B744 it seems to settle when you do the 360° pan in outside view ... horrible FPS when you load and the settles back at 30FPS (locked) after the 360-swing. Still can't use landing lights on 2xSSAA though because the B744 will crash and burn the F through the P all the way to the S
  24. May I ask: What driver are you using for 1070? Do you have ORBX Global, Europe and US LC installed? [Could the amount of lights have an influence?]
