  1. Don‘t use Asus AI overclocking. It uses ridiculous voltages to achieve the overclock. Either learn how to manually overclock or run it at default clocks.
  2. Developers have to get away from this ancient cost+ thinking of prices. Of course, you need to cover your costs and make a living. But in a sizeable market like MSFS you have to find the sweet spot in pricing to maximize your profits. Most likely you will get away with still charging the ridiculous P3D prices, because the enthusiast simmers will still buy airports even at those prices which in the end will somehow cover your costs and give you a decent profit. But what you should really do is to understand the relationship of price and demand. Most likely, developers can make much higher profits buy setting prices so that even the casual gamer buys the products. Selling 100,000 copies at $5 is much better than selling 3,000 at $30, because this is mainly a fixed cost business (plus some minor costs from support).
  3. In all honesty, I think it has a lot of potential but is not really an enjoyable experience yet. The autopilot is a huge pain in the $&§ (at least if you are coming from PDMG or FSLabs standards). You have to get involved all the time or it completely messes up the flight. After the autopilot is fixed, it will certainly be a very nice default plane (with the FlyByWire mod).
  4. Let's wait and see. The truth is certainly somewhere in the middle. The niche, which it certainly is, was much larger back in the days when FSX and the previous releases of Microsoft Flight Simulator where widely available and still up to date. The niche became extremely small in the last couple of years with the resulting effect on prices. It's certainly a good thing that the market is bigger and certainly will stay bigger than it was before (even though not in terms of millions of users).
  5. Interesting. I would have assumed that they are willing to pay $15 dollars for a mega airport. I think this will be a bit of trial and error to find out the price elasticity in this "new" market. For me as an enthusiast simmer, $15 is perfectly reasonable. On the other hand, the price gouging in P3D was not acceptable anymore. I'm really happy with the decreased prices and will certainly buy more add-ons than before (poor wallet...).
  6. This. They would never sell airports for 30 dollars to the average MSFS player. And you rather sell a ton of copies then only to the enthusiast simmers.
  7. Then the 3080 should give you a VERY smooth ride in MSFS. Even on ultra settings. I'm on a 49 inch 4K TV after moving away from a triple 1080p screen setup. So I need a 4K capable graphics card...
  8. Will be happy to hear how good your new system performs. I recently switched from my 4770K@4.5 to a 10700K@5.0, but I'm currently keeping my GTX1070. The upgrade of the processor (and of course mainboard, RAM, SSD, etc.) already made a huge difference. I'm now waiting for a 20Gb model of the RTX3080 as I'm running the sim in 4K and 10Gb seems to be very tight for 4K resolution.
  9. Totally agree. This is a total scam. In Germany, the 3080 FE was sold out after 1 minute. The „low“ prices are a joke. Supply was intentionally kept scarce. Nobody will be able to get hold of a 3080 for 700 dollars (or euros).
  10. By the way: Meteoblue is a professional weather service company. They provide all kinds of professional services around weather. That‘s their core business. You really think a 2 or 3 person FS developer can provide better weather data then these guys? Come on... Don‘t get me wrong. REX had its place in the old sims and they did some pretty decent add-ons. But this is David against Goliath here...
  11. Microsoft uses much more precise data than METARS. Can‘t see how this would be an improvement once the built-in weather engine is fixed. In the past, REX has basically just sold bitmaps with all their products. Don‘t see what they can bring to the table in MSFS.
  12. Kind of disturbing to see mods ranting about a product they don‘t even own. Mods are supposed to act like role models on a forum.
  13. Easy work-around is to generate an ISO file from the DVD and mount this one. Problem solved.
  14. Guys, thanks a lot for the extensive feedback! Well appreciated. For me the main point why I'm asking is not the cost of buying Prepar3D v5. It's the time I need to spend maintaining all the stuff. I was tired of flight simming 1,5 years ago because I spend more time fideling around with the simulator and all the add-ons than actually flying the sim. That's one of the main things I like about MFS. You just start it up and you are good to go. Nevertheless, I hear all the voices saying that it will probably be some time before it will be possible to fly sophisticated tubeliners in MFS. I fired up Prepar3d v4.5 yesterday with the FSLabs A320. Still a beauty and with the new CPU it's a totally different story than before... Let's see if I will also give Prepar3d v5 a try. By the way: Is it possible to install the add-ons once and use them in v4.5 and v5 (if they are installed outside the simulator main directory)?
  15. Hi, after moving from my rusty 4770K to a completely new build based on the 10700K (and hopefully a 3080 with 20Gb soon), I'm back into flight simming after a long break. Of course I bought MFS but since I'm a tubeliner guy, it cannot replace a Prepar3d install yet. So my big question is whether I should make the upgrade from v4.5 to v5, knowing that probably in a year or so, it will be all MFS when PDMG and the likes release decent tubeliners for MFS. In that regard I have one specific question: Does Prepar3d v5 require scenery updates or do the v4 sceneries still work? I know that a lot of developers have released free updates but some want an update fee and I don't want to spend money on sceneries in Prepar3d anymore, knowing that in a year or so, I will most likely have moved on to MFS. Thanks for your answers!
  16. There are rumors that there will be a 20Gb model of the 3080. Will probably wait for this one.
  17. So true. But pricing economics is something that a lot of people around here don't really understand. Including some devs. But market forces will drive down prices. This is a very welcome side effect of the much larger audience that MFS attracts compared to P3D.
  18. What an incredible video! And it shows how much potential MFS has. Beautiful!
  19. Thank you, Rob! Very helpful. Seems to support what others are saying that it performs roughly as good as the FSL A320. That's a dealbreaker for me on my ancient machine (4770K@4.5GHz + GTX1070), as this means that I can't sustain a stable 30fps+ which is crucial to get a fluid sim on my 4K@30Hz monitor. Next year I will buy a new machine once the requirements for Flight Simulator 2020 are known. Then it might be worth a try.
  20. Why? Maybe not all people have a 9900K@5GHz and a RTX2080ti like you and really care about performance. Hearing that it performs worse than the FSL A320 is a deal breaker for me and I would like to know this before wasting $100. Especially reports on relative performance compared to other add-ons are always usefull. Especially with weaker systems. My ancient machine for example cannot run the FSL A320 in a reasonable way. But the PMDG 777 and NGX perform nicely. So I would definitely like to know how the NGXu performs relative to other add-ons. Reports from people with beast machines like you have, are really pointless. Of course it runs well on that beast of a machine...
  21. Whatever the final release date may be, I think it is really refreshing to see someone in charge who obviously has expertise in project management. Compared to the usual amateur "project management" seen in other FS projects with all the missed deadlines and wrong promises. With the well structured announcements and an ongoing news flow in place, it is really not that hard to wait. I'm really looking very much forward to 2020...
  22. Can anyone with a mid-ranged system please elaborate on performance? I'm still on an old 4770K@4.5GHz + GTX1070 system and would like to know how it compares to the old NGX.
  23. Point is that this is a thread about the iFly 747, isn‘t it? So what else are your praises on PMDG good for other than trying to convey that it is superior to the iFly? Isn‘t this a comparison? And it is one made without even owning the iFly. I would rather prefer hearing from those who actually own the iFly what their experiences are with the new update. Thanks.
  24. And? Do you own the iFly version? The PMDG is great. We all now that. Apart from that any of your comparisons without owning both products are completely pointless.
