Here's my notes for flying the R66. I took what was in the manual and removed anything that isn't modeled (that I can see anyway, i.e. hydraulic systems, collective friction, ability to beep RPM, turning ignition key, etc). From this I can start from C&D, go on to flying around, then back to C&D.
BEFORE STARTING ENGINE:
● Altimeter: Set
● Fuel cutoff: Push ON
● Fuel cutoff guard: Installed
● Cyclic, collective, pedals: Full travel free
● Cyclic friction: ON
● Collective: Full down
● Cabin heat switch: OFF
● Anti-ice switch: OFF
● Pitot heat switch: OFF
● Avionics switch: OFF
● Generator switch: OFF
● Battery switch: OFF
● Landing lights (located on cyclic): OFF
Note: Click base of cyclic to hide T-Bar
---
STARTING ENGINE AND RUN-UP:
● Battery switch: ON
● Strobe switch: ON
● Fuel cutoff guard: Remove
● Fuel cutoff: Pull OFF
● Collective: Full down
● Start button (on end of collective): Press once
Note: Once start button is pressed and released, the generator control unit (GCU) latches the starter on until N1 reaches 58% RPM, at which point the GCU automatically switches out of start mode.
● Fuel cutoff: Push ON
Note: Do not push fuel cutoff ON unless N1 has reached adequate speed and is increasing. 15% N1 RPM is recommended; 12% N1 RPM may be used in cold weather.
● Fuel cutoff guard: Installed
● Generator switch: ON
Note: The generator switch should not be switched ON until N1 RPM stabilizes.
● N1: Stable at 85-87% RPM
● N2: Stable at 100% RPM
● Engine Torque (on ground): ~30%
● Oil Pressure: 100-130 psi
● Oil Temperature: ~27° C
Note: Low RPM annunciator will light when N2 RPM is below 95% unless collective is full down.
● Avionics switch: ON
● Annunciator panel test: All lights ON
● Cyclic friction: OFF
● Warm-up: One minute idle
● Annunciator lights: All OFF
● Engine gauges: Normal operating range
---
TAKEOFF PROCEDURE:
● N2 RPM: Stabilized at 100%
● Slowly raise collective until aircraft is light on skids. Reposition cyclic as required for equilibrium, then gently lift aircraft into hover. Note hover torque.
● Check gauges are in the green, lower nose, and accelerate to climb speed (50 KIAS)
● Takeoff torque should not be more than 10% above hover torque.
---
CRUISE:
● Set torque as desired with collective
● Torque: ~57%, MGT: 700° C, 90 KIAS
● Verify gauges in green
● Engine anti-ice as required (press H key)
---
APPROACH AND LANDING:
● Make final approach into wind at lowest practical rate of descent with initial airspeed of 60 knots.
● Reduce airspeed and altitude smoothly to hover. (Be sure rate of descent is less than 300 feet per minute before airspeed is reduced below 30 KIAS).
● From hover, lower collective gradually until ground contact.
● After initial ground contact, lower collective to full down position.
---
SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE:
● Collective: Full down
● N1: Deceleration check
● Cyclic friction: ON
● Cool down: Two minute idle
● Fuel cutoff guard: Remove
● Fuel cutoff: Pull OFF
● Monitor MGT
● Wait one minute. Apply rotor brake (hold Shift-B)
● Strobe, avionics, generator, battery switches: OFF
