  1. So I have already downloaded some scenery from Simheaven including the V2 Mesh for Photoscenery.  This large 9.1GB folder of mesh contains lots of Nav Data.  If I only download one area of Switzerland ZL17 scenery, then all I need from the Mesh V2 folder is the one that applies to Switzerland area that I downloaded?  In other words, I won't need all the 9.1GB of mesh if I only have one photoscenery area in Switzerland.

  2. Before I decide to get X-Plane, I'm trying to decipher all this "stuff" available for X-Plane. It is CONFUSING. OSM, OSM + Autogen, Mesh for Photoscenery, Mesh V2 OSM Scenery, European Library, and more even.

And on top of that, there is just too much info out there. If I search on Google or the various forums I am literally inundated with too much information it become overload.

    With that said:

-I want to fly photoscenery exclusively

-I want to fly Europe photoscenery.

-I want ALL the excellent and latest buildings, forests, European objects.

-I want the latest and greatest MESH.

    -I want whatever else I don't know I want.

And what I understand is this:

-I will download ZL17 tiles from SimHeaven for Europe.

-I will download "HD Mesh V2 for Photoscenery" from Simheaven.

    Beyond that I am clueless.

  3. Why wouldn't you just download the HD Mesh V2 that's available elsewhere then?

I guess I must be confused. If someone had say Swtizerland Photoscenery ZL17 already installed, then why not just go download HD Mesh V2 for Europe which covers the Swiss area?

In other words, is this "HD Mesh V2 for Photosceneries" something special that can only work with the listed photosceneries?

  4. MSE uses this USGS data, which is free to download and use at your whim:

    http://viewer.nationalmap.gov/viewer/

Zoom around, make sure you click the IMAGERY on the left side menu, and also click Imagery at the top of the map so you see the photoscenery map. There is a bounding box tool that will allow you to selct any area you want, and then it allows you to download the photos in convenient large size tiles. There are many places that are 12 inches/pixel, and the rest of the USA in 1 meter/pixel. It is slow to zoom in so give it time. However, when you hit the download button, it will load much faster.

The reason I post this is because you guys want it, and it's free and easy for the picking right there. I have no idea how to make photoscenery in XP yet since I am still contemplating buying it. But I do have Switzerland in 50cm awesomeness for FSX/P3D. I'd love to do this with XP because I see the potential.

  5. How difficult is making photoscenery for XP? I have some very good Switzerland photoscenery source at 50cm or less and have converted it to P3D. But it is very easy to use with programs like FS Earth Tiles that pretty much do it all for you.

So, if I were to get XP and want to do the same with Swtizerland:

1- how easy is it? is it automated somewhat?

2- Will it support autogen buildings an trees on top of the photoscenery? Does it do this automatically or is this an extra tedious step like in P3D?

  6. Bought it, installed it. First run = stutters, awful performance (as LM stated). Second run, smooooth as a butter. I experimented with various settings (extremely dense autogen + shadows ) I was ~25fps all the time, and it was smooth. Nice. I disabled tesselation, shadows, and set autogen to dense, and fps is ~50. Acceptable for vanilla with my gfx card. I will try to disable HDR, and re enable tesselation and will test fps again, since I'm using SweetFX.

Ah ha! Xcellent. Your card is twice mine, plus you have a desktop.

I have tesselation on full right slider, it seems to make very little difference to the framerate.

I'll be uploading another video showing lots of autogen. Over 20fps on my laptop.

  7.

Actually I beg to differ that it would be a slideshow in FSX. I'm able to run FSX on my Macbook Pro Core2Duo on bootcamp just fine with moderate settings. Plus I know JV at Orbx has FSX running Orbx addons on his laptop no problem, and even provides demo vidz. I'm not sure what your point is.

My point is this that what you saw in that video would be a slide show on my laptop with FSX. How do I know this? Because I was trying to run that on my laptop before getting P3D. And oh, with less clouds, less autogen, less everything. I was getting 7 to 10 fps.

That video was running at 25 - 30 fps.

  8.

Hmmm, your definition of fluid is questionable because I see stutters all over the place in that video, but that could just be FRAPS recording.

I don't doubt that you can run P3D adequately on your laptop. But don't expect to go far with all the new bells and whistles. Also that area is not that heavy with autogen, so go hog wild with that setting, plus the default Maule is as light of an airplane as you could possibly fly, and spot view is kinda meaningless.

Well see, you've completely missed the point. Plus, apparently you didn't read the description in the video. If that was FSX, it would be a slideshow. I have a laptop. Here, let me say that again... I have a laptop.

What you see in that video is 1920x1080 running on a laptop. Any stuttering you see is from FRAPS. I'm happy to report that running that cockpit view is just as smooth with equal framerates.

I'm not competing with a desktop i7 with the latest and greatest video card. The point of the video is to show how well it runs... on a freaking laptop.

FSX would puke autogen out of the fan exits if it had to do that...on a laptop.

  9. Yes, I'm aware of my graphic card limit in P3D 2.0.

As I said my friend has similiar card (560 ti), and he tested vanilla P3D. Lots of stutters, 25-30 fps with medium settings. If that performance was fluid 25/30 frames - different story. Stutters are killing everything.

My card is doing good job in FSX DX10, around 70-80% of GPU Load, so no napping. :)

Don't make me laugh. Like I said above, I run a 650m which is half the performance of your card and I get fluid 25fps or higher. Of course I have a i7 3630qm processor but it ain't the best.

Stutters are a different story. I have to use GeForce 307.64 drivers to avoid stutters.... But again, that's my computer, not yours.

I just uploaded a video on youtube at 1920x1080 using full autogen. I can't post links, but do a youtube search for "prepar3d switzerland photoscenery" . Try not to drool.

  10. Man I really don't understand people having issues with P3D performance. I think one should do a little investigative work on their own before making conclusions based on some blogger.

I run this hot beast on a laptop computer with an i7 and 650m GeForce card. I get 20-40fps. If you can't enjoy those frames with full autogen and clouds, then nothing will satisfy you.
