  1. Textbook flawless update. No mods. No tweaks (I made the assumption the software engineers knew better than I how to build it). Cheers
  2. AK Airlines ended up with a bunch of Airbus hardware with the Virgin merger. Most are flown in the lower 48. I boarded one a year or two ago and muttered "forgive me Mr. Boeing" as I was boarding. We were the last people off at the destination and the co-pilot struck up a conversation walking into the terminal. He said he shared my sentiment for Airbus hardware, but after flying them for the past few months he was growing quite fond of them. I must admit I too was pretty impressed with the ride. The 737 is an icon in SE AK, don't think they will be replaced too soon. Could be wrong, I often am.
  3. They did a fairly good job. The covered gangplanks are a bit off, but that's a small point. For anyone who cares, the ferry is is the Oral Freeman. A good friend sat up in that wheelhouse for over 24 years, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... He's glad he's retired. Looking east down the channel from the terminal is the body of water, or channel, that the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" would have crossed. From Ketch over to Gravina Island. A nice chunk of 25 by 10 mile flat real estate where the airport was built. When the voters of Ketchikan approved the ballot measure sometime about 1974 for the Gateway Bourough to build the ferry infastructure, the ballot initiative stated that after the cost was recouped, the ferry ride (the ONLY way to get to the airport, and keep in mind there are no roads in or out of Ketchikan) would be free. Today's ticket is $7.50, but oh yeah... it's round trip...same day only. Another friend has the ballot initiative framed in his house. He brings the issue up at city council meetings from time to time.
  4. I came away from PMDG’s post with the feeling the CEO was walking a very delicate line. He wanted to convey to the community the SDK was most definitely “not ready for prime time” while at the same time attempting to keep the path of cooperative development as smooth as can be accomplished. My suspicion is that the MS core team are competent flight sim engineers and have a grasp of the task at hand. The problem is they have/are assembling a team of code writers, graphic artists and developers that have come from the science fiction, first person shooter and sports PC gaming industry. The core team, the developers who sat on their stools and pontificated about “their understanding of past MS transgressions and mistakes in the flight sim community and we will do better now” are not the ones building MSFS2020. They oversee and plan it, but they must rely on the well of talent at hand. And there in is the rub. It’s going to be the year Robert mentions for them to come up to speed learning reality based basic flight dynamics, aerodynamic physics, civil and commercial airspace rules, regulations and avionics etc etc. Their track record of trying to fix stuff this past month speaks for itself. If I were in his shoe’s I would be most careful about how close I allowed my team of PMDG developers to get near the MS2020 insiders. Bill Gatus of Borg has VERY deep pockets. Those guys have bills to pay too. Or… maybe Robert’s distractions of the past few months include hotels in Redmond and the thoughts of walking Ms. Solo in better digs. I came dangerously close to zip tying a Xbox controller onto my yoke over the past few weeks. Fortunately better judgment prevailed. I’m just not going there. On the other hand, flying the shiny new toy has pressed me hard into learning how to operate the Garmin 1000 and 3000. I have a personal extreme dislike for those “word not allowed” rotary knobs that require mouse operations of a 15 year old hyper active gamer. But this old dog is having fun learning new tricks. It’s pretty, but it sure has a long way to go. No doubt it will happen. Not sure what will become of pure flight simming as this and other flight sim communities absorbs the masses of gamers into the community. There influence here and elsewhere has me a bit concerned, but it is what it is.
  5. and Navigraph the same way and... you have your charts for the flight pinned while building it. Worth every red cent. Looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeve for VFR. Soon.
  6. Yes. Most all with DC3 Airways. Truly a great bunch of crusty old curmudeons, pilots and aviators in general. I've owned and flown several aircraft in real life in SE AK, PAJN.Florida has better weather. Have the Maddog under tarps. Someday. Have to master the 737NGX first. Retiring at the end of the year. Might get easier.
  7. Yeah... I have been playing with the new kid on the block too. The vast majority of my hours the past twenty years have been in a DC3, upwards of 2400 logged. Up in the air at this point if someone will develop a native DC3 for the new toy. There have been attempts to port over the MJ DC3, but I guess it broke with the update. I'm awaiting P3Dv5.1 to come and get it's first hotpatch. I'll upgrade to V5 then and more likely than not log more hours in the old girl. My "early adapter days" are over (he say's after downloading the new toy on day 2). Been trying to teach myself tubeflying as well, but that has for sure has gone by the wayside recently. It truly is a great time for flight simming. Running the risk of not being "PC", but A LOT of these new arm chair pilots coming into the community don't seem to have any interest in learning to fly. They want to just press buttons. Wonder where that comes from? Agree about the dev's migrating to where the revenue stream flows. They have bills to pay and debt to service too. Cheers,
  8. Four days of topics on page 1. Where did everyone go?
  9. Anyone locatre a glare shield light to illuminate the AP buttons in the Cessna 208? Pretty dark under there. The TMB 930 has a toggle for illuminating that panel. Am I Missing it? Thanks!
  10. Smooth as a baby's you know what. Eventless. No mods, no tweaks,no sweat, no worries.... Higher end machine. Don't see much change, still looking. Of note... I was getting repeated CTD's the past few weeks. Usually over 2 hours of flight time. Turned AI traffic completely off. Not one since. Just have to wait it out I guess. Can still learn a lot while waiting. Cheers!
  11. Would anyone know where the setting is to PERMANENTLY fix a zoom in/out setting in the map in Little Nav Map? Meaning... when I set a zoom level, it STAYS there, PERMANENTLY. I found one setting that will allow a user defined zoom setting to stay put for up to 3 minutes or so, then it goes back to a default setting centering the aircraft with a medium range zoom. It's Tools/Options "Jump Back Resume...." and can be set to a maximum of 300 seconds, then reverts back to centered zoom. I guess I can't bXXXh too much as it's free software (of course I sent a nice donation), but I get really annoyed with software that won't do what it's told 🙂 Anyone? Thanks!
  12. I have the exact same issue driving me nuts through my headphones. It has started doing it in both MS2020, which I just got up and running the last few days, and it occasionally does it in P3D. When I exit the aircraft to a menu, it stops, when I enter the cockpit, it's there, I'm going with the GPU emitting RF noise. Make sense, I have a 2080TI 13G brand new card in a brand new Jetline Systems PC. I have the setting pumping in MS2020 fairly high, but dialed some setting back to not max out both frame rates and monitored GPU usage. might have to tweak some more and see the results. Thanks for posting this. I was going nuts thinking it was my headphone manufacturer software or drivers. It only appears while in game in the cockpit so I began to eliminate that possibility. It's annoying,
  13. Quick followup. I received an email from Honeycomb informing me that I did in fact order one of the last available yoke's from their werbsite and my order ws firm. It took about 12 days but it arrived on my doorstep yesterday. I feel lucky. Honeycomb was quick and very responsive to my inquiries. I will be adding this to a rig that already has a Warthog HOTAS and throttle. Will most likely use the HOTAS for DCS warbirds and fighterjock learning and install the Honeycomb for both P3D and MS2020. I'm thinking I will use FSUIPC without the Honeycomb setup "drivers" and input configurator for P3D and attempt, at some point, to use the Honeycomb software for MS2020 when I get around to further exploring GA aircraft in MS2020. I'll stop by the FSUIPC forum and may bounce back here for some direction if I run into configuration isues. Of note, I'm hoping I can utilize my existing FSUIPC profiles.I imagine I would have to open an editor and remove all the HOTAS inputs in my various ini files for aircraft, then go back in and assign my control axis to the new Honeycomb yoke. Or...... just bit the bullet, back up all my config profile files and start from scratch mapping out buttons and axis that would include both the TM throttle and all the buttons on the yoke for each aircraft "from the beginning". Might be a good time to upgrade the paid version of FSUIPC while I'm at it. Going to have to give this some serious thought and think about layouts for the 737NGXu, twin engine DA62 and a A2A Bonanza, all of which comprise most of my flight time. This might get complicated....
  14. Thanks Bert, Thanks Eric. Great advise. It's great to come here and get sound advise from those who have blazed the trail already. 😃 I have a list of add-ons to go through. No rush. I might be back with additional inquires. Appreciate the thoughtful assistance!
  15. After spending a few days with MSFS2020 I'm giving consideration to upgrading my P3D 4.5 to 5 while I await the maturing of the new platform. I'm listing out what the true cost and true hassle factors are going to be to see if I want to do this for what might be only a few quarters (or not.) Anyway, I started with ORBX, of which I have a large bucketload installed for V4.5. After spending some time reading their forums and support I believe I am getting a better idea of what it will involve. I'm looking to see if my conclusions are valid. It would appear I would have to buy another copy of ORBX Vector, but all my other sceneries that are, as of this writting, V5 compatible (many airports still are not after 4 months) should work. I read the process to move the complatible scneries over. Looks to be time consuming but not too difficult. I read a few support inquiries involving numerous folks who are having up to 10 minute reading delays getting their new Vectors data read by P3D after making a flight plan and before takeoff. ORBX supports only suggestion, from what I could see, is to disable vectors before making a flight plan, then reenabling it EACH time you wish to fly. No hope of a solution to the glitch seems to be forthcoming. Seems a bit clueggy. Gives me pause, but I do want to see if my perceptions of this process and state of affairs are valid. Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!
  16. No issues. I'm flying and learning. Recognized my TM Warthog Hotas/throttle right off. Also recognized my two TM Cougar MFD button sets. Squirrel youtube series big help.
  17. Friday I ordered an Alpha yoke. There was no out of stock notices on the order page when I placed my order. This moring I see an out of stock notice on the description page of the yoke, not on an ordering page. I emailed them to see what the deal is. My CC has been hit for the yoke. No one else has inventory. Anyone have any idea of the situation. I could not bring myself to dropping the coin for a Yoko+. Might have to if I hit the out of stock wall with Honeycomb.Hopefully they will refund my $260 if they are indeed completely out of stock. My thinking was they wanted to ship right from their inventory rather than give up the bit of margin for other vendors. Can't blame them. Surely they would not have taken my order and $$$ on the order page without a backorder notice?? Cheers, Bob
  18. VP... I have had to do the same thing now twice since I set up my 10 GoFlight modules. First, make sure to go into device manager and turn off power management on all your USB entries. Time consuming, you may have 50 or so listed. Must be done. Next. Keep at it. I have found that after setting things up and attempting to get them operational I have had to reboot, restart and switch around usb ports a dozen to 2 dozen times to get that majic combination that works for all the USB powered hubs and all my gear. I can't figure it out. I have fired up the same combination of plugs and ports for five times with INOP after INOP and then on the sixth go around the system regognizes the GoFlight module in question. Of course you know to try to spread the EFIS, MCP and 66's across as many powered hubs as you can or if you can plug them right into the MB USB2.0 ports. Don't hesitate to plug a 66 or an MCP into a USB 3.0 port. I believe there is a bit of "FM" going on here. The "M" stands for majic, I'll leave it to your imagination as to the "F" Be patient and persistent. If they worked beofre and there are no significant changes to hardware they should come back up with time, effort, a bit of cussing and persistence. Cheers, Bob
  19. After l loading Active Sky, Cloud Art and REX textures prior to loading P3D, all per the scenarios learned here from my fellow "much more knowledgable" pilots, I will often close down Active Sky and go to clear weather during a long cross country. My probably misguided logic is I have spent a small fortune in ORBX scenery software and if I find myself flying in my DC3 at 7500 feet with a 3000 foot ceiling I would rather enjoy the scenery than not during my LONG (around the world type) cross country flying. Do all the textures and cloud art data files that were loaded into P3D prior to loading and takeoff remain in my sim after closing Active Sky? I don't see any noticable changes, but I thought I would just ask those more versed in the subject. If I fly a LONG flight will I fly "out of" loaded data at some point? Thanks for any clarification! Bob
  20. OK... this post did it. I read it all and am simply impressed! Real support. What a concept. I'm buying the Reality-XP 750. This post along with the discount coupon good to year end pushed me over the edge. I have just HAD IT with that "other" brand! For nearly 20 years I have dealt with "Brand X", the other company that offers the GTN750. In all my flightsimming years have I NEVER run across such horrible support, clunky useless software and complete run a rounds to get very simple questions answered. I get frustrated beyond measure EVERY time I get near that outfit. I just use it in one aircraft, the A2A Beach Bonanza V35. I will uninstall my existing 750, buy the Reality XP and open a new thread should I run into issues. word not allowed I feel good about dumping them. I will NEVER darken their doorways again. EVER! Thanks Jean-Luc... Engage! Bob
  21. Simbol... With all due respect to your knowledge and helpful attitude, I believe your being a bit unreasonable here. Your asking for something that is simply not going to occur. As long as people are civil and "somewhat" polite, I can't see anyone asking for any limitation on speculation or their thinking, experience or opinions about much of any topic. I due agree with your comment that people should not be stating, falsely, that anyone has made any statements of fact that aren't true. You can't stop human nature, but it makes sense to state the obvious from time to time.
