  1. Wow. That's the main word that comes to mind. A self-serving response to an inquiry that has no benefit or aid, other than to pump up the responder's self-importance?

But what do I know? I just don't see any reason to rain on anyone's parade to make myself look like I matter more than I do.

AirProudPilot, I hope you get some assistance. Avsim can be a helpful place, or at least it used to be...

If a developer implements it then let it be!, don't overwrite default P3D files please!

You've just put a large amount of Orbux products on the shelf!

Want better land classification? Too bad, because (AFAIK) P3D doesn't recognize anything but default files. It also only recognizes default.xml, not any third-party separate additions. So if you don't want the files merged or replaced... what's a poor simmer to do?

Until L M makes the "mandatory" system work 100%, there will be times and psuedo-needs to replace default files.

Thanks, I'm waiting your feedback :)

Remember to open the ReadMe as you need to install additionnal autogen definition!

Back after doing some FSX cleanup from installing some third-party libs that change wayyy too much...

Went out east of LA where I had spent some years and flew west towards KLAX. Initially I was only admiring 'some' autogen and looking for LAX from afar. Then as I got into the 'basin' I looked out the window and had a OMG moment! Houses everywhere at Very Dense setting. All neatly lined up along the streets, stretching far into the distance. Certainly one of the more real moments I've experienced in many, many years enjoying FS products.

Looking forward to exploring more of the many parts of the state and still haven't decided if I want to fill in the NE portion that is missing. And seeing if I have any afcads for airports not already done?

Installation was fine, once I got de-orbixsized. Well done, Roland. A thumbs-up from me!

  4. My exuberance was tempered after a while, sitting there wondering why the download map looked a little odd. Then I realized that the NE section of the state was cutoff well before the border with Nevada. There's not much out there TBH, but it is pretty country and makes for a scenic tour.

Way back when..., I had some photo work for all of the north but I'll be darned if I can find where (and if?) I stored the BGLs. I could attempt to fill in the missing area, but physical issues makes that a larger task than it might normally have been.

Switch file APX26210.bgl in main scenery folder 302 to OFF. No more default taxiway signs. Only thing remaining is the default control tower. Not sure what file that is.

    Huh? Say what?

There are over 190 airports in that file and to "fix" a problem at one airport that the developer can't/won't remedy you suggest wiping out a vast majority of airports in Florida?

That's like going to a Doctor for an in-grown toenail and him telling me amputation of the foot is the cure...

To answer a poster above... yes, PR scenery will load even if you are not flying in that area however an easy solution is to only "check" on those areas you are flying through.  P3D, FSX, etc, will not load the scenery if it is checked OFF.

I see comments like this and just chuckle. IIRC, NL2000 is something like 30gb+ and runs in FSX. FSX is a 32bit program, limited to no more than 4gb of RAM. How's all that photo work fitting into 4gb of RAM? Or Mega Cali or Texas or most any other US state?

Without going into a detailed explanation of SDK files and indexing, can we please stop saying photo work is always loaded into memory? Unless someone cares to put up pics of their 64bit system running 192gb of RAM?

  7. This happens because FSX/P3D doesn't terminate as it should, which would normally end the running SODE program. Thus SODE is still running and when FSX/P3D tries to start again it sees an already running process and complains. Going into Windows Task Manager and ending the SODE task should allow things to start normally.

Bert, I did exactly the same as you but I get a Config File Not Found error when I load the B60 and no new sounds. Is your B60 install inside the P3 folder (the FSX way) or external from the root sim per the preferred LM way? Mine is external & I think that might be causing my problems. Thanks for your help! -Kevin

I was running into issues with having the files installed outside of the P3D4 folder structure. Content log couldn't find the .WAV files or P3D4 couldn't find the .INI file. Finally went in to the .INI file and changed all the file locations to absolute from relative, ie. .\SimObjects\Airplanes to E:\Shared planes\SimObjects\Airplanes. Also made the same change for the Panel.Cfg file from relative to Absolute and Bingo, Bongo the flaps and spoilers and landing gear came back as music to my ears.

P3D sometimes has 'issues' using the relative file reference and changing to absolute seems to clear thing up.

I agree. I noticed that too. I fixed the situation myself. I don't care for the XML add-on feature.

The method of using the "XML concept", at least for scenery, is good and I hope to see the fruits of my labor later today. I've undertaken a "monster" that likes to overwrite/replace default files and place everything in the default folder structure. Makes updating P3D difficult.

All the add on stuff is now 'coded' via the XML routine, so that the default files are snug in their folders and the replacement files are off in another set of folders, called up through the XML. It's suppose to work that way and once I get some areas and airports activated through the scenery library, I'll go check. Ah, the Scenery Library. That thing that's been around for ever and even survived into P3D4!

Lest anyone think I am not willing to evolve, as recommended by LM, I'll answer that after they offer a good, reasonable explanation about why evolution hasn't taken full effect at LM dev. HQ, as I chuckled when I saw the default Oshkosh scenery is still in FS2004 format...

  10. Trying to remember the days, this is Friday. On Wednesday I did a change from Win 7 to Win 10 and knew I'd have to reinstall everything, ACK! So I got P3D4 installed and flew around the same area as the OP (I recognized Boeing Field right away). Seattle was a graveyard in FSX, even default as a pretty plain FSX gave me mid-teen FPS, while P3D4 was performing in the upper 20s with pretty strong slider settings.

I checked at Honolulu and had low to mid 40s sitting on rwy 4R. Installed FSX and got the registry problem sorted after the FSXA install (sigh!), started it up and had 30 FPS sitting on 4R at PHNL. Going to get P3D3 reinstalled in a bit and I'll check FPS to see how it does, but neither FSX or P3D3 offer the scenery aspect of P3D4, as I'm enjoying the much improved autogen display.

Still early, but me likes what I've seen so far from v4.

  11. A simple rule would be if the scenery object was made using the FSX or previous P3D compiled MDL file(s) and other compilers, yes.

I'm not sure about FS9 compiled MDL files, but somebody else might be.

Evidently, older ground techniques (circa 2002) have been dropped and there has been a lot of airports made during the past decade that used this method of design.
