Yes, the Intel I5 will outperform the FX-4130...it's pretty outdated anyway. I've been using the six core 6350 3.9GHZ overclocked just slightly. I works well for me when paired with a decent graphics card. My system: ASUS M5A97 monhterboard AMD FX-6350 CPU 8MB ram 500GB SSD (OS and programs) 1TB HDD (all user data) MSI GeForce GTX 760 video card Both FSX and Prepar3d run smoothly with that system....

OK, I'll be looking into trying out both of those ATC addons... I also upgraded my video card today...WOW! I had no clue that the graphics could have such an impact on the actual operation of the simulator! Everything simply works better... the aircraft steer more easily and basic navigation is smoother. Moving the view around the cockpit is so much smoother too and basic operation of the program features simply works better. I've been able to increase the detail of just about everything a lot and now I get an average of 40 FPS which is more than good enough for my viewing pleasure...if I drop the details of scenery and such down to mid range across the board, I can get 60+ FPS. This is great!

Looks like ASN is the winner for weather... I'll do more research into Pro ATC/X and Radar Contact for the ATC functions... Thanks folks!

Thanks denali, I've been looking at active sky and pro ATC/X.

I'm slowly getting the hang of P3D and it's a nice simulator indeed! Lots to like but, just like FSX there are things I 'wish' it had. It would be wonderful if I could find a way to get real time weather and have the P3D ATC pay attention to it. I have looked around at the weather engines and such but I'm not sure it would affect how the P3D ATC reacts. Speaking of ATC, some of the airports I have used seem to be deserted even though they have traffic control in real life...one is the South Lake Tahoe airport in California along with a couple of others... I wonder if an addon ATC program would be able to 'generate' ATC for those sort of 'as the need arises'... Other than that, I'm pretty happy with P3D... hopefully after I put in my new graphics card tomorrow, I'll be just as happy with how my computer handles it! Did P3D move away from almost full reliance on the CPU and offload some (most?) of the graphics to GPU? As is, my GeForce 610 can give me about 10 FPS and it really is usable there...lots of delays but usable...

Bummer! If I might make a suggestion, get the free version of malwarebytes and run that and then run AVG before you start the new installs. that way, you have a better chance of removing the root files of the virus...

I found it! I found it! There's a button labeled "Nav" over on the AP!

I'm having some problems using the autopilot on the CRJ 700. No problem setting heading and speed, that works fine unless I'm trying to get it to follow the flight plan in the GPS, then things get strange. Altitude hold is hit or miss at best. Sometimes when I enter an altitude, say 13000, the AP will point the nose either straight up or straight down and I have to scramble to turn it all off if I am to recover at all. As for using the GPS with the AP, it only works sometimes... I think I may be performing the whole action out of sequence. What I do is this: 1. While on the ground, I set the dials for heading, speed, and altitude but do not engage either of those three buttons. 2. After take off and after the initial climb to near the cruising altitude and turning to the initial heading, I engage all three buttons for heading, speed, and altitude then engage the AP button. If the AP is in a good mood, everything goes well and the aircraft makes correct maneuvers to hold heading, speed, and altitude. If the AP is cantankerous, it will either point the nose in the air or to the ground or change heading to whatever. It has done both altitude and heading at the same time creating a pretty large pucker factor. Now, let's say the AP is operating perfectly and I want to have it follow the flight plan in the GPS, I switch knob from "NAV" to "GPS" and usually, the AP simply ignores it...once in a great while it will start following the flight plan. I seriously doubt this is a problem with P3D but rather operator error on my part. I simply can't figure out where I'm going wrong.

Controllers are all new gear BUT, I do need to check on the conflicts again...just in case! Vonmar, I'll get to all of that pretty soon and will give a screenshot of the calibration settings. HOWEVER, I starting to think it's the aircraft! It doesn't do this in FSX but, in P3D, after I get off the ground and manage not to crash long enough for the airspeed to get where it belongs, flaps retracted, and all that, the thing straightens right out and flies like a dream! It even lands nice and straight... Oh, taxi is not a problem either...

Instruments not showing for SOME aircraft...
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in The Prepar3d Forum
I think it was checked but, I got everything back anyway. I took the "scorched earth" method and reset the display to default settings... -
OK, disabled the controllers in P3D and calibrated in FSUIPC. Something is going on with the rudder. Not sure if it's my calibration or the aircraft! I tried it out on the Maule and the next thing I knew, I was in a huge left bank. I fiddled with FSUIPC to make a null zone...didn't help...adjusted the slope...still banking left. Might be the nature of the beast I'm trying to fly! Now, I'm trying to get the hat switch to work properly with FSUIPC. It did work once! I could pan left, right, up, down...thought I had it made but, next flight, push the switch to the right and it snaps to looking straight out the right side...try to get back to seeing the panels and out the front by pushing to the left and I'm looking straight out the left window...strange stuff! Pete Dowson is gone until Nov. 25 so, if I can't get this thing figured out by then, I'll yell for help on his support forum.

I have not added any aircraft to P3D...just starting to use the sim so I don't need to complicate things too much yet. Anyway, some of the GA prop planes don't have instruments showing...just holes or grey areas where instruments should be. Other aircraft, especially the jets, are just fine. If I go to "views" and make a new view of the instrument panel, the instruments show on that view very nicely. Of course, I can either resize it or undock it and move it to my second monitor so I can see them but, that's not my preferred method of doing things. The image below is one example of what I'm getting on about here... Do I need to reinstall or is there some configuration change I can make or have I simply hosed the settings?

I'm using FSUIPC 4.937. Both FSX and P3D are on the same system. I'll reinstall FSUIPC and try the suggestions both of you have given in a day or two. Thank you!

I have been using it in FSX for a little while. CH flight yoke, CH pedals, Saitek throttle quadrant. Computer is AMD FX 6350 6 core w/ 8GB ram. Graphic card is NOT adequate and have a new GeForce card arriving soon. Version of windows is Win 7. No networking. Yes, all the testing I did was with native P3D aircraft. I tried it with the "enable controllers" both checked and unchecked. Gee, I think my original post said that I was unsure what I DID... I am NOT blaming FSUIPC at all! I know very well that other users have been using it without problem and I know it works in FSX because I use it there...so, I know that there is something I missed and thought I would post here for other users of P3D to chime in with helpful suggestions like "Vonmar" did.

Not sure what I did wrong but, when I installed FSUIPC so it added on to P3D, my controls went nuts... First of all, with FSUIPC installed, I deleted all the axis and button assignments in P3D then went to FSUIPC to assign all of those. My first indication of a problem was that FSUIPC seemed to be stuck on sampling the throttle lever. It took me a long time of trying to clear and reset before I could get it to sample any other axis and then I had to repeat that process over and over again for each axis. Once I got all the buttons assigned to my liking and then managed to calibrate each axis, I thought all would be well. It wasn't. I got back into the flight, aircraft sitting on the runway ready to go, and immediately saw that the brakes were constantly applied. Moving the toe brakes didn't fix it but I could tell that the axis was being sent when I pressed only one brake and saw "Differential braking" show up. I tried the buttons and saw no changes at all happening as if the buttons were not assigned to anything. I went through and tried several different combinations of FSUIPC assignments along with P3D assignments and nothing straightened it out for me. The end result so far is that I uninstalled both P3D and FSUIPC then reinstalled FSUIPC so it would see and install into FSX. Now, I'm reinstalling P3D and will use it alone for the controls...

From what I can tell so far, my controller(s) need to be set up for each individual aircraft? Is there a method to have a 'global' controller set-up that will be used by every aircraft kind of like in FSX? I also installed FSUIPC and that also has the ability to set up aircraft profiles for each aircraft but it also allows FSX to use basic settings for all the installed aircraft. I didn't find this info in the 'learning center' (aka, help file) for P3D... it's probably there.

Hmmmm...gotta go find that and try it out.

I never know for sure if the autopilot in the Lear 45 in FSX is going to maintain the heading, altitude, and speed I set... sometimes it does all three just fine and dandy then sometimes it will simply have it's own mind on one or all three! It's a little disconcerting to set the altitude to 12,000 and suddenly see the aircraft nose dive for the surface or point to the sun at high noon or to have it leave the course I was steering to go 180 degrees from it when the AP is enabled. Speed seems to be a bit more tame but still sometimes has a mind of it's own... more than once it has gone from a nice sedate cruising speed of 200K to well over 350 and headed for mach 1.... Of course all of this is probably my unfamiliarity with USING the AP and I am doing something out of sequence or not engaging the right control or something like that...

Thinking about getting the full FSUIPC but...
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Yeah, when I get more used to actually flying, I'll set up profiles for different aircraft. Right now, I still have trouble remembering what global settings I have! It's like, "I know I set up a button for the lights! Where is it?" -
native FSX Bombadier CRJ700... Auto Pilot question.

Thank you! I was looking only at the auto pilot panel! That works like a champ! -
native FSX Bombadier CRJ700... Auto Pilot question.
alhefner posted a topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
I have the auto pilot working with the heading, altitude, and speed I manually dialed in but was wondering if there was a way for it to use the flight plan route in the GPS for automatic course corrections from fix to fix... -
I may have to get this one! I have a feeling that by the time I have FSX 'customized' to my liking, I'll have spent a lot of money then new 'gotta have it" enhancements will come along and I'll spend more $$$... Kinda like my other hobbies of radio, gold prospecting, shooting, hunting, etc... a never ending means of supporting the world economy!

Thinking about getting the full FSUIPC but...
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Well, I got it. Still just using the basic controller calibration and assignment functions for now until I get more used to it. -
Real noob question about FSUIPC button assignment
alhefner replied to alhefner's topic in MS FSX | FSX-SE Forum
Got em..finally. I actually did disable the joysticks in FSX and assigned everything through FSUIPC. Still have to tweak the null areas a bit I think and maybe the slopes. I'm not a fan of how the hat switch now works... too much delay before it starts to repeat and move the view... -
I did get v2.2. I'm trying to figure out how to make FO use the native FSX aircraft. Looks like I have to configure them in FO though and then save them instead. There seems to be only one portion of the aircrage configuration I can really import from FSX... Got to play around with that a bit more.
