I can't remember the details exactly but somebody from the software gurus on these boards had explained why all flight simulators would always be very much dependent on a single thread performance, it's like a law of the universe.

This is not fact. It's just how it has been with some sims up til now.

There is no reason it has to be like that in future.

  2. Sure. But if MS bought the rights to it, he may have no say.

Pre DA62 he was very responsive to me on technical issues, as was his biz partner. Nothing since, same as everyone else.

I own everything they ever produced and would delighted if that quality was to continue into FS2020.

This has been a really interesting thread, so I was hoping someone could help with NCP. When I set Max Frame rate to 30 under Program Settings - Prepar3d, it doesn't limit the frame rate in the sim, instead I get 60+ frames (with or without adaptive half refresh). I'm using driver 445.75. None of the previous suggestions worked. Does anyone have any other ideas why the setting isn't applying?

I've given up on The NCP setting for now. It wasn't reliable here. Some days it would lock it to 30, other days it was ignored. So I'm using my previous RTSS again which is working reliably.

Not been able to see any reason for NCP setting failing.

  4. OK I sussed why it was crashing.

One of the update scripts for the Horizon X scenery had renamed one bgl file to disable it, and failed to replace it with a new active one. Several others examples had been correctly updated, but the tile for Aberysthwyth was missing. Checked my backups and I don't think it's ever been there. Obviously I never flew over that specific tile previously in all my years with this data. 🙂

For anyone who wants to check their installation... Look in:

    ...\VFR-Gen-X-2.0\Volume2\Area1\1.2m Photo\Scenery

    for a file called V2-12-11750213.bgl

It's probably missing, having been renamed v2-12-11750213.bgl.VFRGenXUpdateInstallBackup

Simply rename that file to the original name V2-12-11750213.bgl and you should not get the crash.

I can see why they tried to update the file - it doesn't draw quite right in the scenery, but I'd rather have a slightly wrong looking tile than a CTD.

    Cheers.

  6. Found a repeatable bug with the HorizonX Photoscenery this evening.

Flying over Aberystwyth in Central West Wales I get a repeatable crash almost directly over the town. Doesn't happen if I disable the photo scenery. Does happen in any plane at any speed/alt etc.

    Anyone ever had this?

I flew for hours over the rest of Wales and Devon without issue. As soon as I returned directly over Aberystwyth I get a CTD.

Wondering if there is a fix

Does anyone know how to find which scenery files are effective at a specific location? I'd like to replace just the relevant files instead of doing a full reinstall if possible. Looks like its Volume 2.

  7. Hmm. LM didn't design all the bits which I run beside P3D, so I still use affinity masks to control it all as recommended many times.

All I can say is that I can scream around in very fast jets at 200ft at Mach2+ for long flights over many countries with photo scenery everywhere and have no blurries, so I'm not about to reinvent my configuration yet again when all the advice given previously is working perfectly.

It seems people just can't stop fiddling.

Has been discussed many times over... As SteveW pointed out, getting more cooks in the kitchen involved in cooking your meal, may not get your food done any sooner, nor better..

Stick with what LM designed

    Hi Bert,

Sorry I've been out of the loop.

What does 'Stick with what LM designed' mean in this case.

Strange. On my setup, the Nvidia setting has no effect, unlimited in P3D gives about 60 fps when set to half refresh rate in Nvidia.

If I use RTSS and just let it sit there in the hidden icons section, without opening it further, I get around 30fps.

Interesting. I used RTSS for months successfully.

Recently I stopped using that and moved to the setting in the later nVidia drivers, and that worked perfect too.

Then the last few flights this week I started to notice bad blurries in flight. I checked the frame rate, and the nVidia setting of 30fps was being ignored. The sim was producing 60fps and struggling.

I checked that the setting was still there in the nVidia control panel and it is, but even after resetting it and re-entering it, it failed to limit the fps to 30.

So right now I'm back on RTSS, which is working fine.

Anyone else had this nVidia limiter fail to work? I'd be interested to know if there is a fix for this.

  10. Any company who thinks it is accepable to tell users to DISABLE THEIR FIREWALL just to be able to install a product, needs their bl33ding head examined.

And just to futher add to the risk, they want your ANTIVIRUS DISABLED at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hopelessly irresponsible.

  11. With those two powerful drives, it would be a waste not to split the sim across both drives. I run an NVMe 1TB boot/win which also contains all of the sim/addon executables. I also have 4x SSD drives. All 5 drives have my massive photo real scenery library distributed across them. And when I say massive, I have over 2TB of photo scenery.

    Works lovely.

It is absolutely fine to use the boot/win drive for the sim. Even configured like that, the NVMe drive hardly gets off idle when supplying data to the sim.

    SledDriver,

I am going to assume that you are referring to my post and will respond accordingly.

Firstly, it has been a long, long, long time since I had F1GTN working, what I have said is based so much on memory.

Secondly, I have had almost .... well, not almost, by a long chalk, but (some) difficulties with the installation of RXP. I DID, however get support with the RXP and almost nothing but platitudes from Flight1.  Other than that, I have vague memories once I did get F!GTN installed, I had problems with functions not responding, not many, mind you, but one I distinctly recall, was never being able to get the transponder to change. There were others. I stopped using it in the end.

My biggest problem was trying to reinstall it following a power failure which took out my UPS, Motherboard, power supply and a few smaller components in one foul swoop. That one power failure cost me about AUD2000 just in computer repairs.  I replaced everything. Installed Windows on a new NVMe 1tb drive and then had the joy of re downloading everything else. I replaced FS2004, FSW, P3Dv4.5 HF2 AeroflyFS2 and DCS. On a whim, about three months ago, I decided to try the GTN again in the RealAir Duke B60 Turbine. That was the start of my problems, and Flight1 was telling me constantly (after being advised) that it was my antivirus (uninstalled specifically for the download and install) then it was Win Defender (turned off specifically for this download and install) and various other reasons.  It was NEVER the Purchase agent and it was NEVER the product. In the end it became a loop, doing the same things over and over again.

I have to say that their forum, is riddled with much the same (unresolved) problems. However, in defence of the F!GTN, the problems that I remember were not deal-breakers, and, I am quite sure that there are many users out there who are very happy with the product. One has to admit in the same breath, however, that there are quite a few who are not. MY problems all came from support (I use the word very loosely) and not the product.

So I went to RXP and, as I have stated, there was a problem with the install. BUT, the support, from Jean-Luc and in particular Bert Pieke was superlative. Therein lies the difference for me. I now have a product that is working after support (RXP) and one that is not, after support, Flight1.

If you had, and currently, have no problems with the F!GTN, then, as I have said to someone else in this topic, I genuinely wish you well. I am really glad that you are happy.  I WAS NOT.

Apart from all of that though, my impressions and opinions of that product are mine and based on my experience, and as such, it is only an opinion and should be regarded as just that. Please note also, that I have never denigrated the F!GTN Product.

    Regards

    Tony

Thanks for all that. It's always interesting how different users can have entirely different experiences of the same product.

The only bit of F1GTN I don't like is the install/reinstall method. I've always managed to make it work OK, but it's not that obvious.

Once installed, it has always worked well here.

One thing it doesn't do is Crossfill. Does RXP do that? That would make me migrate.
