  1. Ok, lotsa questions, lets see what we can achive. First a little background to cover some of those questions. My "H:\Addons_P3D\" is a path on a H: drive (NVMe M.2) where the intent is to place addons via the use of an add-on.xml file where they will be automatically "Discovered" by P3D. The root folder itself has a series of subfolders based on category, for example the below are the directories where the numbering is simply to provide ordering in Windows File Explorer. 01.Aircraft 02.AI 03.Utility 04.Scenery 05.SimObjects 10.Wip Those paths and paths within are defined in the P3D add-ons.cfg as discovery paths, where a discovery path is a path P3D will search for add-on.xml files to import, note the high numbers in the snip, I actually have 28 discovery paths configured whereas a default P3D install will typically have one. [DiscoveryPath.15] Path=H:\Addons_P3D\03.Utility Title=Utility Active=TRUE [DiscoveryPath.16] Path=H:\Addons_P3D\02.AI Title=A.I. Active=TRUE But back to 01.Aircraft, this has further folders beneath to catagorise the developer of the aircraft, into which I place the actual aircraft root folder e.g. Carenado, A2A, AeroSoft, Ants, Milviz, Realair, you don't actually have to go down to this sort of lower folder level, it's just something I do which I've been thinking of simplifying by just using a prefix for the developer on each aircraft's folder name like "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair", or "Carenado_Pilatus_PC12' so that the aircraft will be grouped by folder name in Windows File Explorer. To create and manage a Discovery path your best bet is Lorby_SI's "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D", the tool will also enable you to easily perform a full backup of P3D config files as a zip file. Let's tutorial using the Milviz FG-1D Corsair as this aircraft has a little gotcha to be aware of. Using "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D" first perfom a full backup of your config files, I'm not going to go into how to use the product itself as is has a useful guide included, and it has its forum here on AVSIM. Next up create a folder path like "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft" where [drive] is a drive letter of choice. Using "Addon Organiser for Prepar3D" add a discovery path for "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft". Pre-create your target folder for install as "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". You'll now have a path of "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". Install the Corsair to "[drive]:\Addons\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair" instead of P3D. When installed you'll see there are three folders within "Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair". Effects SimObjects Sound Now we create an add-on.xml, notepad++ is the tool you'll need to use (Google it if need be) as the xml needs to be saved in a particular format, the below link has the format info. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/550578-incorrect-character-encoding-in-add-onscfg-file/?do=findComment&comment=3984466 I've also linked to the P3D SDK doco page for further add-on config reference. https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv5/sdk/add-ons/add-on_packages.html I've included my add-on.xml text in the spoiler below where the gotcha this aircraft has is the SimObjects path in the xml being "SimObjects\Misc" as the aircraft includes an extra for rockets, bombs and droptanks. Note I've not added the SimObjects\Airplanes path to the xml as we'll be adding that particular path via a junction point (symbolic link). So now we have our discovery path, aircraft path, and under the path there are three folders and an add-on.xml, which means we are nearly there. Now we create our symbolic link. Open a CMD using "RunAs" administrator and using the below script line (suitably modified for your own paths) paste into the CMD and run. All going well there will be notification of the sucessful link creation. mklink /J "[drive]:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG-1D" "[drive]:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG1D". That's it, you should be ready to fly and begin enjoying the great Milviz FG-1D Corsair freebee ๐Ÿ™‚ Incidently I found a easily fixed bug in the Corsair, I like it when a developr's release includes practically nothing to fix, although if there was one thing I'd ask it's an option to enable the pilot's mirrors. Error Fixes: error=Duplicate Section Name File: H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft\Milviz\Milviz_FG-1D_Corsair\SimObjects\Airplanes\Milviz_FG1D\aircraft.cfg Section: direction_indicators Removed the first instance at lines 421 & 422 as the second instance lines are the same values with commenting. 2. I use a junction point where needed. For example, the Milviz freebees (which I'm totally enjoying and spending considerable time with) have an issue with sound files not being found when installed as an add-on.xml, and I do try to install all my aircraft to a specific addons "Discovery" path (H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft). So rather than having to go through and spend time trying to resolve the sound probs (which may not be easily or even achievable given their custom sound dll), what I do is a hybrid type of install, where a Junction point is used for \SimObjects\Airplanes\<name of aircraft> And an add-on.xml is used for the Effects folder etc. The files reside in my "H:\Addons_P3D\01.Aircraft" path with P3D able to see them, and of course I make a text file covering what is used to install for reference.
  3. I remember the disaster movie 2012 about a flood enveloping the world due to plate tectonics and shifting. An interesting movie featuring an Antonov 500 that met a fate of destruction, although the 500 was a fictional plane, it was based upon the Antonov 225, which unfortunately also met a fate of destruction. But it lives on in the various sims, this being the P3D version with shots taken at various locations. Cheers
  4. And just to show it all installed fine ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. I successully installed myself and it flys just nicely, key worked fine. The key is placed in the sim root in Milviz\MVMD530.ini along with other items that have a key. I actually installed outside the sim root and used a junction point to link back to the sim root then manually copied the Milviz folder and contents to the sim root. Cheers
  6. I've had a few fail myself, but then a download restart at a later time gets it all down. The downloads are held on MS SharePoint so likely reliability of downloads is not a consideration. Probably the site is busy. I suppose there is also an option of using a download manager. Cheers
  7. @Caribe the KA 350i Beech is really nice, maybe not quite a pretty as the Carenado version, but certainly has way much more depth of operations.
  8. Too excited to read the website's download page burb ๐Ÿ˜‰ Freebies Have fun. We offer absolutely no support. Install at your own risk. Mouse over images to reveal DRM keys (if applicable)
  9. A great option ! https://blackbirdsims.com/flight/freebies.php Thanks BlackBird @Slayer68 this asnswers my question on the BlackBird support forum I posted after attempting to purchase in the new year start. Would these be the very latest version download links to those updated with v5 installers ? Or is is going to be required to register to the Support Forum to find and download a v5 installer ? Cheers
  10. ??? Other sims are relevant where the use and development of P3D are affected. Cheers
  11. Didn't v5 go to Nvidia Wave Water ?. In v4.5 waves are 3D if set to max which has quite an effect, else they are different, not 3D but maybe better looking ? And REX Textures do have an effect, although yes I do remember FSX being somewhat superior in water looks, plus there was a dedicated 3rd party tool you could use to tweek them. Cheers
  12. I usually tinker with or rewrite what I find to be irksome, at least within the limits of what I can achive. This is a custom cloud shader I've been tinkering with - P3D 4.5 HF3 only.
  13. The above would have to be the most typical corp speak PR piece that literally tells nothing about actual plans other than they are going to try and not break anything... Heh, still a very much wait and see... in my books. Cheers
  14. Thanks @Jack_Sawyer and @andy1252 I found some info on stall recovery in a post on A2A and in the crash report of an actual P51 that had stalled @ ~7,700 feet and did not recover. It seems a lot of height is needed to recover - up to 9,000~10,000 feet Cheers A final Moonbeam
  15. Been getting into a bit of P51 flying of late. And what a learning experience it's been ๐Ÿ™‚ The A2A P51 Civ might have nicer instruments than the Mil version, but it certainly is a beast to fly and very unforgiving where most of my flights have been ending up in the maintenance hanger as complete overhauls. Speaking of being a beast to fly, does anyone have any hints on stall recovery ? Most of the time I seem to end up in a unrecoverable flat spin, not all but most... Glamorous Gal, some mighty fine paintwork. Moonbeam McSwine, there are a number of Moonbeam repaints, this is one I found where the cockpit has also included a degree of repainting. The cockpit, differences include more black and the white handle on the right, normally red. Lining up for landing. A heavy landing where the gear collapsed and yet another raise on jacks and full overhaul. After a taking a break I migrated the FSX-SE P51 racer series, nowhere near as hard to fly as the A2A variety. Cheers
  16. Now this is the type of video puts those crew in the lower levels of professionalism, it starts with wierd laughter and for the most part is two guys rambling on. Anyway at about the 30 min mark they are talking about no longer developing for the P3D market due to the bottom having fallen out of their sales, but they do actually say still available to purchase at a 50% discount with a caveate of no support. If I missed the part where they say total with withdraw from sale in less than a year's time please pass on the timeline of that statement. Cheers
  17. I did intially buy their DHC3 Turbo Otter, which actually felt a bit of a letdown, it just didn't have that polished feel to it in the way that other similarly priced aircraft did. That said it grew on me once I'd learned to master it. I mean it was no A2A, RealAir or Vertx but it did have an engine that was easy to kill if you were not careful, plus it accumulated damage to the point of failure in the sky some flights later, then having to glide into the nearest landing strip. Essentially there were consequences if processes were not followed. There other stuff was Ok, but some had more bugs that I would have expected on a released version that's had several rounds of fix releases. And quite obvious ones too, like wheels not quite touching the ground and other silly xml syntax bugs. I'd still buy more if I could, they did have a few gems. Cheers RIP
  18. Hi @Reader, Yes that's a quote regarding their MilViz military development and contracts and you also left out the part where they say there will be no new development for P3D outside of their military obligations. However none of that actually mentions withdrawal of the existing product line, in fact the opposite was stated, that they are reducing the price by 50% for those who want to purchase. sooo, give up ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers
  19. Perhaps your reading technique could use a bit re-worK ๐Ÿ˜‰ given your nick ๐Ÿ™‚ "They will still develop for the P3D commercial/ military market but these products will not be available to the enthusiast." I didn't read anything about withdrawing the already existing product line from sale. Infact what I did see was... "Itโ€™s not entirely all bad news as theyโ€™ve now put all their legacy P3D products on sale at 50%, but without support." And I was lucky, I managed to buy at the 50% + another 30% off, still I wanted to purchase more but it was just rude to do what they did. Cheers
  20. And I know it's been talked to death but vsyncing @ 30 Hz greatly reduces overall load and allows spear proccessing room to keep those FPS up an on the vsync, whihc in turn gives a nice smooth flight. Cheers
  21. Have you any refrence to where they said the'll be withdrawing their products from sale totally and with a year's notice ?
  22. Well... I suppose it depends on the day, the time, the angle of sun and so forth and the year of the sim used for the pic, And I'm not saying MSFS doesn't look nice at times, although it can look just a tad on the overly vibrant and over exposed side. But whenever I see that sun in MSFS I just cannot help but think "Teletubbies" ๐Ÿคก This look better ?
  23. Also don't fret, there are other nice planes and places to buy A2A (the pinnacle of GA and also has a great B17), Ants (nice inexpensive quality), Flight 1 (the iFly Boeings), Just Flight (some nice Arrows and tons of others), Quality Wings (nice jets), NextGen (Citation CJ4X V2), AeroSoft (famous for their Twin Otter and Airbuses), FSL (high level airbus) PMDG (Boeings) Leonardo (MDs) TFDi design (717) Alabeo (the C421 is quite good and has a number of mods), Carenado (lots of good mod kits for these, check the forum in AVSIM) There are also a bunch of freebees over on Orbx Direct/Central. And I could go on... Googling will help. I even have a couple of FSX-SE planes migrated over. Cheers DHC2 migrated from FSX-SE
