  1. @blaunarwal's advice is good. Also the first thing I always do when attempting to troubleshoot such types of issue is to delete the shader cache files and scenery index files. This is a non-destructive method, as both will auto regenerate with new and fresh data when P3D is restarted. Allowing those files to rebuild will often resolve issues and indeed many thousands of complied shader cache files can build up over time. Shader Cache files are located in the user profile path e.g. C:\Users\YOUR-LOGIN-ACCOUNT-NAME\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Shaders\ Scenery Index files are located in the Prorgram Data path e.g. C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\SceneryIndexes_x64\ Also I wouldn't delete the prepar3D.cfg Rename it as a first step, of note I've never needed to delete my prepar3D.cfg although I have renamed on occasion for troublehooting purposes prior to rolling back to my origional Prepar3D.cfg after troubleshooting. I always keep my Prepar3D.cfg as it is heavily customised and tuned to my usage. Cheers
  2. Yeah that's a couple, but lets take A2A as per your example, I've 12 A2A aircraft for P3D (and I enjoy flying them all) compared to the 1 in MSFS. When I look at Ants airplanes (another fav of mine) I've 6 compared to 3. So still a way to go in my books... Cheers
  3. Likely a glitch with those admin rights on the p3d exe. Like all software, windows has its share of bugs and quirks, especially when MS introduces changes, many of which as end users, we would be completely unaware of. Cheers
  4. If an application is installed to a Program Files area yet needs the install root folder ACL (Access Control List) changed to allow modifying, a better option is to not install the application to a Program Files area. That way there is no need to mess with the Program Files ACL at all. Cheers
  5. That's why you should avoid installing to the windows "Program Files" paths. If you create a new folder on the root of say "C:\" drive and check the windows security permissions it should have just 4 x groups. Authenticated Users (Modify) SYSTEM (Full Control) Administators (Full Control) Users (Read & execute, List Folder Contents, Read) Once you've logged into your Windows workstation you'll be authenticated and thus will have modify rights where the "Authenticated Users" group has been provided with Modify rights. Modify rights are the level needed to read/write/modify etc. Further info: Windows file system (NTFS) permissions can be a bit of a hastle working out what is needed when the Owner Creator is also thrown into the mix, as Owner Creator gives high level rights to the Owner/Creater of the file/folder overriding other permissions, I've seen Orgs unintentionally lock users out of accessing shared files due to the use of the Owner/Creater group. Additionally permissions can be unexpected when files are moved rather than copied, and at times it maybe required to take ownership of files and folders in order to be able to manage them. If the above is all Greek, then yes, windows NTFS file and share permissions can be an involved subject where many I.T. pros even have difficulty with. Recommend Googling NTFS permissions for additional info. Cheers
  6. Hey @Chris555, If you monitor the GPU use, is it reaching 100% (or very close it it) ? Once a GPU maxs out frame rates drop and stutters begin. The 1070 series was actually a pretty good card, I had a 1070Ti clocked to 2 Ghz and performance was pretty good. If you limit the P3D frame rate in the Nvidia control panel to 30 fps, do things perform better ? Cheers
  7. Sounds like a Windows permissions issue to me. Does the "Users" group have "Modify" rights to the following path ? "C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v6" Also does Windows ask for elevation rights when a program is set to "RunAs" an administrator? I'd go with @Sparkrite's suggestion of getting Lorby's excellent "P3D AddonOrganiser", it can manage the scenery and add-on configurations, as well as backup all the P3D config files to a zip archive. Cheers
  8. So GSync stops working when a window is undocked and dragged onto a non-gsync'd monitor. I guess that would be a limitation of GSync, given the lowest common denominator monitor P3D is running on would be the non-gsync'd monitor. Might need a 4th GSync monitor, I take it if the undocked window is dragged onto a GSync capable monitor GSync still works ? You probably don't need the P3D vertical sync option enabled, given gysnc will be do doing just that anyway, and like you've mentioned, maintaing 60 hz vsync (for 60 fps) would be a challenging senario. Although the Nvidia control panel does have a half vsync option, meaning you could set the monitor to 60 hz and use the half vsync option perhaps? Also if you limited P3D in the Nvidia control panel to 30 fps max, if the monitors are true gsync then they should be able to vsync down to ~1 hz, a 30hz vsync (for 30 fps) is much less demanding on the CPU / GPU. Just throwing a few ideas out here as I don't have any gsync monitors myself. Cheers
  9. And yes since admins require no evolution of a thread, I do buy P3D items, most recent was a bunch of Orbx airports during their end of year sale. Also Planning on a few of the jets everyone seems to have (except myself that is). Cheers
  10. I would disagree on that. It's quite easy to tune to maximise GPU use and I can easily use all 12 GB of VRam as well as reach 100% GPU use for my 3080Ti. P3D in it's default config is really very much a tune for the lowest common denominator. Here is a pic showing the 3080Ti @ 100% GPU use and memory use also climbing, in this instance VRam use didn't hit the max but I have on other occasions. A simple rule is the more powerful the GPU, the more that can be thrown at it. Cheers
  11. Good to hear things are fixed. Yes it is certainly no A2A equivelent, which it was never intended to be, but is pretty unique otherwise. Most Carenado & Alabeo would fall into the bracket of well detailed in looks, although lacking on substance but in geneal fine for the non-sophisticated user. There are a few Carenado & Alebeo AC where community mods have improved the overall aircraft, my fav are C208B steam gauge with PBR, FM update, gauge and sound mods, the C421 Golden Eagle with FM update, physics update, gauge and sound mods, the Pilatus PC12 with PBR and community update mods and the 690B Turbo Commander with Bill's mods. Cheers
  12. The C195 is actually an Alabeo plane and does work Ok in P3D v5. Transparency is typcially what occurs when licensing doesn't marry up, was the install manually moved from where the installer placed it ? Maybe if you give it another go at installing? I actually have it installed to a common Add-ons folder location where it is acessable by v4.5 and v5.3 and functions fine in both. Note: the Sound folder is copied into the P3D Sound folder due to issues with it otherwise finding the sound files. I also made these following changes to the engine data. Let me know how you get on. Pics of the plane in v5.3
  13. Cool, I'll lookup the book ('The Learjet Diaries' by Greg Madonna). What did Alain explain ? Cheers
  14. Even though I run the final v4.5 release, I do have Live Graphics available via reshade. e.g Auto Contrast, auto bloom, colour temp, luma sharpen, ambient occlusion, colour levels and various types of AA , plus plenty more to trial and all accesable and adjustable in realtime while P3D is live. Reshade is easy to setup and keep updated, does need the user interface hardware acceleration disabled where LM placed for the following cfg setting for just this type of use. [USERINTERFACE] // Set UIHardwareAcceleration from True (the default) to False to enable reshade use. UIHardwareAcceleration=False Cheers Here's one type of effect - tiltshift for that minature look.
  15. Hi @remcosol, I don't know what @fluffyflops is talking about myself (and there are no provided reference links) but I'd be checking / testing the following. Does v6.1 include a variable refresh rate config option ? I assume all the monitors are GSync types ? Is or can GSync be enabled on all monitors / windows separately ? (don't have a GSync monitor set up here, just 30Hz capable monitors). Is the maximum P3D frame rate set in the Nvidia control panel for the P3D profile ? (for example I have mine set to 60 fps so I can perform a vsync at either 30 or 60 hz, or just disable vsync and achieve 60 fps as the max, the intent being to prevent P3D running at maximum fps to preserve resources for overall higher gfx settings) Are there any other settings specifically configured in the Nvidia control panel for the P3D profile ? You mentioned you haven't tried the GSync config with P3D v5, I assume that means you have P3D v5 and you could trial such a configuration in v5 ? As I don't have either GSync monitors or v6.1 the above are just the sort of places I would be looking / testing settings with as a starting point. Cheers
  16. Are not the trees in v6.1 a new set of dynamic designs ? Although I assume over a particular altitude the trees would revert to the billfold types for performance reasons. Cheers
  17. The fact that it uses the Microsoft Access Database components is a problem overall. For example I ran RAAS in FSX which being 32 bit meant the 32 bit version of the Microsoft Access Database components was required, all fine and good in this case as I had a 32 bit version of Office installed. However for P3D being x64, the 64 bit version of Microsoft Access Database components was required, but you cannot have both bitness types installed, just one or the other. This was a problem as I had other 32 bit programs that needed the 32 bit version of Microsoft Access Database components. It was a bit of an undertaking to update all applications to 64 bit where they would then use the 64 bit version of Microsoft Access Database components. Of course for some programs (like FSX) there was no x64 upgrade path in itself, so some things had to be uninstalled. At work we also came across similar issues with Enterprise level software, where many orgs were running thousands of licenses with many customisations and 3rd party integrations and were unable to just change the bitness of the Microsoft Access Database components they were using, plus we found a long standing bug in Microsoft Access Database components x64 that would seemingly randomly result in a heavy CTD of the sort where a complete machine restart was needed to recover properly. So if you're using RAAS x64 and getting some unexplained CTD's see if disabling RAAS resolves the problem. In the QA we peformed we found the MS Access bug was a rare occurance, it might not happen, it might occur immediately, or it might function fine for 200~1000 times and then trigger, the one consistant thing was it would occur eventually. Unfortunately we found MS to be unresponsive despite MS having sample code to cause the CTD and many 3rd party reports of the issue, we assumed they had their own agenda in play. For our company's software we migrated away from Microsoft Access Database components to SQLite so as to not be beholdant to Microsoft for embedded database components and while replacing the internal embedded database was relatively simple from a code design perspective, at the customer end there was a ton of SQL rewrites required to bring their customised systems over to SQLite due to the different SQL syntax between the two systems. Cheers
  18. Yes, we are both one and the same 😁 Cheers
  19. Speaking of sceneries... There is a mix type of scenery by Gibson Sceneries over at SimMarket. It's designed to show a blend of the scenery underneth, meaning the default P3D or Orbx will show through as a blend. The photoreal is not of high enough res for low and slow types of flying, but that's when your Orbx etc. is visable, higher up it's photoreal. It is able to cover vast areas so when you're enroute at alititude photoreal is what you see from the cockpit. He's released China, NT, TAS, VIC and NSW Australia, he's also done quite a number of other countries however they are not publicly available as they were contracted. A couple of pics. Northern Territory Australia, Orbx blend is showing at the bottom. Victoria Australia New South Wales Australia
  20. I feel the opposite myself. It is highly detailed and therefore quite a bit more resource hungry. I personally never considered TE, until I'd updated my workstation (see sig). Now I'm happy with it although it does push my hardware to the limits. I started with Florida as I wouldn't miss the snow of winter. Cheers PS. although TE is highly detailed, the ground photoreal poly does tend to be of the less detailed variaty, e.g. the ground polys of the freeware BlueSky sceneries are better, and MegaScenery are higher still for some areas (but of course these are flat). I guess it boils down to ROI as to what an org is willing to pay for commercially distributable polys.
  21. I did at one time move my Orbx installs from my raid array to a new SSD using a simple file copy and update of the addon xml file reference paths. The reason I did the driver transfer via a file copy was because I'd performed many fixes to the Orbx files and didn't want to loose them. All went fine apart from two very unusual issues relating to Object Flow. One was a path not found popup issue where the path was both malformed and also partially referencing the original install path. The second was a doubling of Object Flow animations. Try as I might I could not find the source of where the issue lay despite log reviews and extensive wildcard searching via Agent Ransack. Even Orbx's Nick Cooper was stumped. In the end I pulled the trigger on the Resync option in Central which took quite some time to run through, much longer than I expected. Post Resync all was good and I hadn't lost my fixes. Cheers Example pic of the Object Flow animation doubling that was occuring prior to the Resync.
  22. Hi @btacon The flight model is available from their forum, the rest is a re-org with a few bug fixes of the original install to achieve a consistant state, there is no actual installer for the update. It's basically adding liveries, adding and repairing gauges and resolving file references. The actual installer is the freebee from Milviz themselves which will need to be installed followed by a manual cleanup of the files it installs. I suggest having a read of the spoiler in the intial post. Cheers
  23. Hi Folks, Everyone should now be catered for, let me know if you asked but I've missed you. And also let me know if you've found any issues that need a tweek. Also don't forget the cleanup of the originally installed files as the first step! Cheers
  24. Shader cache clean is great. I don't feel it's anything to do with P3D itself, as @Bob Scott mentions the GPU / drivers are more likely. I'm running P3D v4.5.14, being the final 4.5 version in combo with the Nvidia driver version 545.92 and I'm not seeing such artifacts, infact I've never seen such artifacts. Note P3D hits the GPU way harder than FSX ever did. The GTX1660 is a fairly old card in the schema of how GPU tech has evolved, I take it you've had it for some time ? Both CPU and GPU fans & heat sinks clean and functional ? i.e. not full of dust choking the cooling. Maybe reseat the GPU card after cleaning. Cheers
