  1. Hi guys- I've been searching around and thought I'd come to the experts. I currently am running Prepar3d v4 and do not plan to upgrade to v5, like many of us waiting on MSFS2020. In the meantime I'd like a regional 170/195 to play around with. I have the PMDG 737, Q400, but looking for something in the jet category. I've looked at the CRJs, but looking more for the 175/190. I have a navigraph subscription, so being able to use the updated FMC is important. Does anyone have a thought which is the best overall for price, ease to fly, and able to use navigraph? Thanks
  2. Very true, which is why I didn't pull the trigger on the Acer yet, but......the reviews are very good, so it's tempting. I totally get what you mean though.
  3. Thanks for the replies guys! Appreciate it. Because I have three monitors, I don't think I can go $500+ on one. I'm normally a Dell/Samsung/LG monitor guy, but this one seems like it might fit the bill and in a good price point, until I buy a 3rd one around black friday. https://www.microcenter.com/product/503505/kg271u-27-wqhd-144hz-hdmi-dp-freesync-gaming-led-monitor
  4. I'm constantly wanting to upgrade monitors, and as you can probably tell from other posts, I tried the 43" 4k TV route, but it was too big of a footprint on my desk and I was sitting too close etc. I am going to stay with the 3 external monitors at 27." Here's the current setup: Intel i5-8600k Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 16 GB DDR4 3000 G. Skill Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB 3 TB Barracuda 7200RPM for backup 1080 Ti 2 24" Dell HD Monitors 1 27" LG HD I'm planning to get to more 27's to match the LG. I've decided the sweet spot for me is the 27" QHD. Question for you guys running at that resolution, is the 144Hz needed, or could I go 60Hz. For that price range, I could get an IPS panel, but @60 or 75hz. Otherwise if I wanted to get 144Hz, I'd probably need to stay in a TN panel. I don't do much gaming other than P3d, mostly just everyday work stuff where I utilize the 3 montiors. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  5. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Maybe I need to get 5, wife would love that.
  6. Great question, yes it was.....so by day I'm an IT guy...so between working with three monitors at the office, and three monitors at home, I just really like the 3 monitor setup. I tried the TV, and it was just too close and didn't allow me to move stuff around the way I'm used to. From home I'm often remoted into a computer at the office, so it's nice to be able to physically split that up on another screen. I guess it's just a habit/routine. Plus I didn't like having to scale everything.
  7. Hey guys.....back with another monitor question. 🙂 I posted some things a while back regarding new montior(s), or using a TV etc. I tried the 43" on the desk and it was just too close for what I was looking for. I ended up getting a new desk, and the 24"s became too small. 🙂 I'm now sitting with a standard 27", and now I need to get two more 27's. I'm thinking for the main monitor I'll get a 27" 2560x1440 and run Prepar3d in that. I like to have a monitor for charts/maps, and then another one for internet surfing while flying. When running 2k resolution, is it important to look for a 144hz monitor, or will the 75 suffice at the 2k? Also will having a couple of other monitors at 1080 affect the frame rate? (they won't be used in Prepar3d, just the single monitor) Thanks!
  8. Yes, I mean PCIe, I'm just half asleep, thanks for the clarification, I edited my title and comments, appreciate your thoughts!
  9. Hey guys/gals, I made the switch to Prepar3d a couple months ago, and with 4.5 out, I thought now would be as good of a time as any to upgrade my drive. I got a deal on a 512 M2 PCIe drive and wondering if it would benefit me to go ahead and install P3d to that drive. If so...would you guys recommend running it on the same drive as the OS, or install just P3d on the M2 and keep the OS on my SSD? Thanks! 10. Thanks for your thoughts... Maybe I am "keeping them around per say", I just am not sure I would like a single monitor setup when I'm working from home etc. Perhaps I'm just a creature of habit, but I really like having three separate screens . Perhaps in time I'd get used to having it all on one big display, but I'm not sure, and not sure I really want to take the risk of spending $450 on a 43" only to find out it's just too much and I'd rather have the separate screens. Then again you're probably thinking what's the difference between 43" and 3 23" screens with the bezels in there separating. Ugh....I don't know!
  11. Appreciate both of your commments above. Not wanting to start a fight! This is good info on each side so I can do some more research.
  12. Thanks to both of you! This is helpful. Any thought on IPS/TN/VA?
  13. Hey guys... Another question I have for the experts... I have been doing some reading in the forums, and many of the answers I've seen date back to 2017/18, so hoping for some fresh info on this one. I currently have 3 24" monitors, 1080 resolution. I upgraded to a 1080Ti card, and would like to get a bigger monitor for Prepar3d and run 4k. I also work from home a lot, and really enjoy having three externals, so I plan to keep two of the 24s to the side of the main 4k monitor to use when not running Prepar3d. After doing some looking, it seems that many are going with 43+ 4k TVs.....I was tempted to go that route, but I just don't have the space for that big of a screen, especially at less than 36" from eyesight. So from what I can come up with, a 27-32" 4k monitor would be the best fit for me. What has me confused is many posts in here mention 30hz @4k. Originally I thought 4k @60 hz was the way to go, so why am I wanting to look for something with even less than 60hz. After reading, it appears that you want 30hz to match up with 30fps in Prepar3d. With all of that said, I'm not looking for a $500+ gaming monitor with 1ms refresh and such, I'm wanting to spend $300-400 for a decent 4k monitor that will perform better than my 24" for Prepar3d, and also be able to hook it up to my Ps4, and use it to watch YouTube TV. I don't want to mess with a 43+ TV on my desk, as I am used to the 3 externals. I've been reading the rtings site which is awesome, and just wondering if something like a U32J590 from Samsung would fit the bill for me. Currently getting about 60 FPS without Orbx and other Scenery installed, and I'm perfectly happy with the 30 or so if I lock in 4k. Again, I want the 4k for more than just Prepar3d, I have a drone that uses 4k, go pro etc, so just looking for a well rounded 4k monitor, and confused about the locking of 30hz for 4k. Thanks for any thoughts!
  14. Thanks guys! This is very helpful. I've been doing a little looking, and measuring, and I do a lot more on my computer for work than I do Prepar3d. So I think it makes sense for me to go with a 28-32" 4k monitor rather than a TV. I just don't have the room to put a 43"+ TV. So now it's looking at the monitors and seeing how much I really want to spend.
  15. Exactly what I was looking for, thanks guys. I have a three monitor setup at work too, so I really like separating stuff on 3 monitors, so maybe I'd just use the bigger 4k for Prepar3d, then when doing other stuff, utilize the other 23s.
  16. Figured I could put this here and get the opinions from real users for Flight Sims... I've got 3 externals, all 1080p, a little older, but 2 dells, and an HP, all 23" I was thinking about replacing the older HP and putting a 27" 4k in the center of the two dells. For those that have upgraded to 4k monitor(s), is it worth it in Prepar3d? Thanks! Intel i5-8600k Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 GTX 1080Ti 16 GB DDR4 3000 G. 17. I haven't completed a flight yet, still doing some testing....But...was flying the PMDG 737 at night, flew through a storm and managed to pull 30-40 on the ground at KCI and then 60 or so once I busted through the clouds....so far I'm pretty happy!
  18. Thanks Guys.....I deleted it and got it up and running and getting about 60FPS in the air, haven't quite got all my AI/Add-ons in yet to figure out the airports but it's at least 30, so I'm happy with a $300 1080Ti. 🙂
  19. Thanks Gents. Got the card installed, and now re-installing all of my AI traffic after deleting shades and the .cfg file. I'll give her a whirl
  20. Hi guys, Getting ready to install a 1080Ti in my setup tonight, and figured prior to doing that I should do a little benchmark/FPS testing. I've seen through the forums some various OSD's that people use when comparing. Anyone have any recommendations? I don't have OrbX installed yet, just your pretty basic PMDG 737 with Q8Pilot's display settings. Was thinking I'd do a little testing with my old vs. new as I know it will be better, but maybe helpful to others who have the same situation.
  21. I have the 1080Ti and going to install tonight. Do I need to dump the .cfg file once I install the new card?
  22. HAHA. No need to hate me, I'm in Kansas..... 🙂 But thanks for the info as well.
