  1. Are you saying that Asobo is not making any changes at all to the Webassembly they delivered with the SDK for MSFS? Because what I am saying is that the Webassembly that comes with the sim is modified to work with the sim. And it is not the same as what you would get working with a browser like Chrome or Firefox. @mSparks Webassembly is not slow. I guess you didn't try the link above with the 3D FPS game Doom 3 running Webassembly in a browser. @Noodle He didn't break the NDA. They didn't have Webassembly at the time, so he only talked about the limitations of a browser based Webassembly. He was careful with his wording.
  2. You can write Webassembly by hand - https://blog.scottlogic.com/2018/04/26/webassembly-by-hand.html https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/WebAssembly/Concepts In the same fashion as physical assembly languages, the WebAssembly binary format has a text representation — the two have a 1:1 correspondence. You can write or generate this format by hand and then convert it into the binary format with any of several WebAssemby text-to-binary tools.
  3. @mSparks Please read the whole sentence. The Webassembly that ships with the sim. Please, please, please, stop talking about Webassembly for a browser. And if you still don't understand, would your program for Auto ATC work without the many X-Plane APIs you used? Would you say your program doesn't work because it uses custom APIs? Asobo has changed Webassembly, so talking about an unmodified Webassembly is pointless. Here, go play Doom 3 running Webassembly in a browser. (Which is not the same as what we will get in the SDK) https://wasm.continuation-labs.com/d3demo/
  4. I know it is a timelapse. But with those clouds, and the wind movement, I feel like the plane should shake around more. But maybe the time lapse is smoothing it out.
  5. No one that has said anything negative about Webassembly had actually seen the modified Webassembly that will ship with the sim. There has been zero information from people that had used the modified Webassembly, that it won't work. Zero. (Too many people are confusing it for a browser version of Webassembly, which this is not.) Also, Asobo has very clearly stated they are not done with Webassembly. So even if it has issues, which it will, there is no reason to believe they won't be addressed. Do people not understand Alpha? I don't think you would judge the sim as final, so why judge the SDK as final?
  6. Yes. There is a video called Let it snow, that first showed snow. Then in the Multiplayer video is a very brief shot of the menu where you can set snow depth. And there have been photos of snow on the ground. And lastly, in yesterday's update was a gif of snow falling.
  7. If you do, get the 2nd gen ones that have read speeds of 2000 or more. First gen was about 500, so it is worth the speed increase. And Samsung has some very reliable drives. They have different lines, some are made to handle more rewrites than others.
  8. From todays update. "This week marks the initial release of WebAssembly support, enabling our partners to start porting their native code over to our platform. As a start, we are focusing on panels and displays support, which are a critical part of high-quality airplane add-ons." So up till now, no one has actually used WebAssembly within the sim. Maybe now we can get some feedback from people actually using it. I also noticed they say "high-quality airplane add-ons". That may be directed at this thread.
  9. I would like to see this as well. And the chance of a part failing increasing based on its age. And I see no reason it couldn't apply to the big jets as well. Games often do this as microtransactions. How would you feel if they charged to customize the look of your plane? (I am not picking sides, just asking.)
  10. I am not an economics expert, or hobbyist. But couldn't prices also drop, or stay the same? I looked at some parts, and don't see any changes yet. https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/video-card/ Video cards, Scroll down. https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/cpu/ CPUs https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/price/memory/ Memory https://pcpartpicker.com/trends/ All categories Any historical events that are economically similar? (I really don't know about this.)
  11. Why would you agree to that? So many people seem to have no problem breaking their agreements on here. How can you be a honorable person if you don't honor your agreements. I have lost respect for many on here. 😞
  12. I am just asking a question. You keep avoiding the question. It is a discussion forum after all. I find it ironic that you don't want to talk about something, but it is OK for someone else to talk about things Asobo doesn't want talked about. Anyway, I shall avoid asking you and domkle questions in the future. (I am sure this will make us all happy)
  13. Here is the full article, in french, for the 1060 info. http://www.xboxygen.com/News/31562-Interview-d-Asobo-pour-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-2020-la-technologie-et-le-multijoueur?fbclid=IwAR2WNcWlBZ43AfJb-x-mHil_s4-gfrnpjiPHL7zQr_-rsx3eiTpyR-bJJh4
  14. You asking for guesses. The sim is in Alpha, incomplete, and unoptimized. Also this a new sim, using a new engine, actually several new engines, so I don't think it is a good idea to compare to other flight sims. It may be a long time before the Sim ships, so I hope you didn't buy just for this sim. About all that is officially known is one dev had the sim running on a 1060 at FHD and sometimes 1440p. And we know they intend to take advantage of multiple cores.
  15. I said the first part, because I wanted to point out it didn't matter if Simtom reported it, it was going to be reported and noticed. And for the second part, it was a question. You stated you will said What Tom said wasn't directed at you. And the topic was the video and the NDA breaking or not. Additionally you seem to support the guy talking about things in the Alpha that we didn't previously know. So, are you going to break the NDA? Or maybe you think this guy didn't break the NDA? Do you agree that he said things about the Alpha that we didn't know? Just trying to understand if you think it is OK, or somehow only OK for him but not you, or you don't think he broke the NDA, or it wasn't OK and you just don't like that he was reported? (I think I have made my viewpoint clear, an NDA is a promise, and I take those seriously. Do you not want to clarify your opinion?) The NDA - Please keep in mind that features you see in this Program may change or be removed in the final version and those features should always remain confidential. Do not take photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game. Do not post photos, videos, or audio recordings of the Game on any venue. Do not describe any part of the Game on any venue unless we’ve instructed you to. Do not allow others to watch you play the Game. Do not leave the Game running unattended.
  16. @mSparks My two sentences were not meant to be taken apart, which is why I used "And". I.e. people that have seen the roadmap, will it do what is needed, and are you talking about from scratch or porting. Last I heard you didn't even sign up for the Alpha.
  17. Everyone is starved for info, it seems people try to justify getting info anyway they can get it. MS/Asobo have clearly shown they have multiple methods of telling us things. They tell us what they want. How would you feel if someone posted your home address on here, or your phone number, or your secrets? This video has already caused confusion here and on another forum. And based on the video I now have concerns that I previously didn't. This thread makes me wonder how many on here will break the NDA. After all if it is OK for this guy to break the agreement, then it must be OK for yourself? Are you saying that you are going to break the NDA? The way I see it, the guy agreed to the NDA. It very clearly says don't talk about it. So the guy broke his word, broke his promise. I saw elsewhere that someone else reported it and was told they were aware already, at least that is what they posted. So even if Simtom had not reported it, it would have been reported. And you could say the person that posted it on AVSIM reported it, as we know they follow the forum.
  18. With an unexpected landing in the middle of nowhere, you don't have the airport or wind socks to tell you the direction of the wind. So you look for vegetation bending in the wind. Maybe dirt and garbage moving in the wind. And of course waves on water. And when I used to hang glide in some parts of San Diego area, I would carry a smoke bomb. Before landing you drop it to find the wind direction. I only had to use it once, but that is another story. And here is a bit about landing a seaplane. "If there are no strong tides or water currents, boats lying at anchor will weathervane and automatically point into the wind. It is also true that sea gulls and other water fowl usually land facing the wind. Smoke, flags, and the set of sails on sailboats also provide the pilot with a fair approximation of the wind direction. If there is an appreciable wind velocity, streaks parallel to the wind are formed on the water. During strong winds, these streaks form distinct white lines. However, wind direction cannot always be determined from the streaks alone. If there are white caps or foam on top of the waves, the foam appears to move into the wind. This illusion is caused by the waves moving under the foam." http://www.pilotfriend.com/training/flight_training/seaplanes/landings.htm Southwestern side in the northern hemisphere? Usually it is northern side. But even that rule is very shady. https://www.popsci.com/can-i-use-moss-to-navigate/
  19. Webassembly is a sandbox, but that does not mean it can't access other things. It depends on what APIs are added and the information flow security model implemented. See this part from a Webassembly Security document. (https://webassembly.org/docs/security/) "Each WebAssembly module executes within a sandboxed environment separated from the host runtime using fault isolation techniques. This implies: Applications execute independently, and can’t escape the sandbox without going through appropriate APIs. Applications generally execute deterministically with limited exceptions. Additionally, each module is subject to the security policies of its embedding. Within a web browser, this includes restrictions on information flow through same-origin policy. On a non-web platform, this could include the POSIX security model." So, I assume that currently Webassembly does not currently allow the things needed. But we know Asobo is working on Webassembly. Has anyone seen the roadmap of what Asobo plans to do to Webassembly, and does that not allow the things needed? And are we talking about rewriting from scratch, or porting the old code?
  20. I wonder if this has things that MSFS 2020 won't have at launch.
  21. Asobo is working on Webassembly. A lot of people assume that they are just dumping a browser version of Webassembly in the Sim. If they did, why would they say they made progress on it? They would just say that it will soon be in the build. So if they are working on it, perhaps they are working on the limitations. As pointed out, there is no reason they can't expand the API. Here is something from the Webassembly FAQ. "Will I be able to access proprietary platform APIs (e.g. Android / iOS)? Yes but it will depend on the WebAssembly embedder. Inside a browser you’ll get access to the same HTML5 and other browser-specific APIs which are also accessible through regular JavaScript. However, if a wasm VM is provided as an “app execution platform” by a specific vendor, it might provide access to proprietary platform-specific APIs of e.g. Android / iOS."
  22. This is an Alpha leak... Officially they have said you can pre-cache areas. This is just one example. "Neumann: -And as you said, there is also the possibility of downloading a particular area beforehand, if you fly there often, so you do not need a large bandwidth to have the full level of detail in that area."
  23. Certainly depth does not conform to width. But seeing a 10 foot wave on a pond that is 20 feet wide, would look weird. So I figure bigger waves on bigger bodies of water, would look better. Do you think there is a better way to do it? I certainly don't think big waves in small ponds look OK.
  24. So far it is hard to tell if the waves are perpendicular to the wind. But I do hope they cover that. I also hope they make different sized waves based on the size of the body of water. "Five factors influence the formation of the flow structures in wind waves:[5] Wind speed or strength relative to wave speed—the wind must be moving faster than the wave crest for energy transfer The uninterrupted distance of open water over which the wind blows without significant change in direction (called the fetch) Width of area affected by fetch (at right angle to the distance) Wind duration — the time for which the wind has blown over the water. Water depth" I don't think they need to know or calculate all of these. For example water depth can be approximated from water horizontal dimensions, and I don't think we need to see the wave build up over time.
