  1. Thank you for the video's! Didn't think to look up video's for some reason! I did look at those briefing pages on the eAIS under London City, but no mention of reverse thrust, which made me think I must have been thinking wrong, and I was 😄 Interesting about the DC-10, thanks for that!
  2. Thank you very much! Just the answers I was looking for, and I agree with Ian, very interesting read as well in total. I see the line Ian is referring to, thank you, at least I know I can use them, but basically don't land then throw on full whack reverser's for the whole landing until you are nearly stopped basically! Thanks again for the swift replies! James.
  3. Hello all, Wasnt sure where to put this, probably the appropriate section! I *thought* there was a restriction on using reverse thrust at London City, in that you aren't supposed to use it unless absolutely nessecary, to reduce noise. I can't find any reference to this though, and I've looked in the notes on the NATS site on the Aerodromes charts, but the noise restrictions just seem to be about taxiing on minimal power and APU use. Does anyone know of any reverse thrust restrictions? Trying to do my LCY operations in P3D as realistic as I can, like turning AP off for the glideslope, using the GPU all the time except for using the APU for engine start (Dash 8 I'm using), and landing I use the brakes and the Dash is good at slowing down with power levers off anyway. But with a bumpy landing the brakes pedals are usually fully to the floor!! 😄 James.
  4. Thank you all for the suggestions I tried this one above and it worked wonders, game update was up so clicked that, restarted Track IR and was fine. Wouldn't have crossed my mind to be honest! Thank you so much for your help and everyones time with solutions thank you! James.
  5. I have that on auto, IIRC it did update not that long ago when I shut down so that could be it, I'll give that a go tomorrow Thank you very much! James.
  6. Hello all, Anyone else had this? I tried Track IR a couple of weeks ago with P3D V4.5 and was fine, worked no problems. A couple of weeks later to today I try again, and it doesn't want to know?? I've googled the problem, suggestions are for those who can't get it to work from scratch, install this install that...which I have as it worked before and I still have installed.. I can't install the simconnects as it tells me I already have it as I know I have installed those. I can't install FSUIPC as I already have FSUIPC 6 installed, I have Track IR and P3D set to Run As Admin. I have chaseplane on with Track IR enable on, but turning Chaseplane off makes no difference. I restarted the PC and it still won't work. Anyone else had TrackIR working and then not working next time round? Is there a solution to this please? Any help appreciated! James.
  7. Yes!! 😄 It's running through it! I found makerwys.exe online, downloaded that, put it into the P2D folder, and it works! London City now shows up as 09/27 Also set the Run as Admin in the Compatibility section, thank you for that! All good can now do some tweaks and get the voice packs, thanks very much Ian for your time we got there in the end! Most appreciated! James.
  8. Ian, Below is a video of me opening RC4, running the Rebuild DB, and then after trying to run it in the Prepar3D folder, where nothing happens. I did right click/Edit the makerwys batch file, I would provide a screenshot but it's short so I copied the text and is, in full, in the below quote box Is that the problem? The Makerwys I have is "makerwys.bat" and it's looking for "makerwys.exe", which I don't seem to have. I hope the above is useful for investigating, maybe we are getting closer! James.
  9. Ian, So am I! So close it's fully running just needs this doing to it! Tell you what, when I get a moment I'll install FRAPS, I bought this some time ago, and then I'll record running the Rebuild DB so you can see what I mean on what happens, I'll provide a screenshot for the bat file as requested as well Thank you, James.
  10. Hello Ian, Yes I have done that, copied and pasted the exact path directory, and it's still not running the file, it still appears in the taskbar for a nano second, literally, and that's it, nothing. I have it in both the P3D folder and the rc4x folder, and have ran it in the P3D folder as well but still doesn't run, I have noticed though it's a Windows Batch File, not an exe application file, is that right? I have done a flight with this, it recognises at Guernsey runways 09/27 at least, just have to put up with 10/28 at City but that's no issues as it still works at least! 🙂
  11. Hello Ian, Of course I have the / the wrong way! 🤦‍♂️ I should have noticed that sorry I got the MSSTDFMT file, and I entered the path with the slashes to the right way round '\' and I ran the DB Rebuild, this time it didn't say 0 runway's found, it went straight to creating r4.csv and a4.csv files complete instead. I copied the Makerwys.exe to the main P3D folder and ran it there (as admin) and something popped up for under half a second (literally lightning fast!) and that was it. Ok so I ran the DB database and did the same thing, it said it will run makerwys.exe, I click ok and then a second later it had done the r4 and a4.csv files. It seems way too quick to have gone through all the runways, but I managed to load a EGLC - EGJB flightplan, loaded up P3D at EGLC and got the Radar Contact to give me a weather report and clearance, so that's a sign it's working!! It tells me Runway 28 is in use...so the makerwys hasn't worked, as it's 09/27 at EGLC. I deleted the makerwys from P3D and copy/pasted it again from the rc4 folder, and tried the process again. This time I opened up RC4, loaded the flightplan, and pressed controller info, at least I could see the runways here. EGLC is still showing runway 10/28, so still isn't aligned properly. Still we have gone from almost there to REALLY, REALLY close and just about set up! Thanks very much for you help and time Ian it really is most appreciated! James.
  12. Thank you Ian for you time in explaining the installation, most appreciated! I am getting there, the first bit, don't worry I got that done OK, it's the second half I'm having problems with, I'll go through those instructions to explain: I can't set this it the right click/properies menu, I have windows 10 Pro, these seem to be different to Win 7 from what I remember it, but I can right click and choose the 'Run As Admin' option which I use everytime I open the program. Now, if I choose run as admin, I get the Radar Contact v4.3 load screen, and am asked for a key. I don't get an installer window, am I supposed to get one? The only installer I had was the initial one in the first part where it asks for the FSX Folder and FSX EXE and pressed Cancel. If I click the 'X' to close the registration box, it closes the lot down. If I re-start RC v4.3 I don't get and installer, I get the same registration box. The RC4.exe is the same one, I don't get another .exe created, is there a new one that the installer I don't see generates? I already generated a key on the previous step as it was the only way to get past the registration box Does it ask for paths? If so I'm not getting it, and there are no menu's I see that require different paths. I tried 'Rebuild Scenery DB' as I assume that's one, and it asks me is it a WideFS config (I select no), then it asks for the FS Path, the field is blank so I fill in D:/Program Files/Lockheed Martin/Prepar3D v4 The Makerwys.exe returns as 0 files, failing to make CSV and RWS files, and immediately tells me it's done creating a r4.csv and a4.csv files. That's it. I also have the Makerwys.exe in the P3D folder, and I ran this in the folder as well but it still won't create anything, and I ran it as admin. With no other path's to set that I could find, I tried to load a .pln to see what would happen. I've tried a couple of different IFR .plns I have in there, and there's a few, but all I get is a Run Time Error 713: Class not registered You need the following file to be installed on your machine MSSTDFMT.dll With my installation not quite matching up to the install instructions I feel there's something missing or something it's not doing? I have uninstalled and re-installed but getting the exact same results as above. I have kept the extracted installer ready to try again with a different approach! Is there something I have not done perhaps? Any further help is most appreciated Ian!
  13. Was that at the start or near the end? I had two times it asked me for FSX folder, twice I pointed it to P3D one then it carried on, until the end it said cannot locate FSX.exe and wanted me to point to it. Of course if I go to the P3D folder, the P3D v4.exe doesn't appear as it doesn't want that, so I made a text file called fsx.exe as I've heard that works, so tried that but as it's a text it doesn't appear in the P3D folder in the search bit, so I manually type FSX.exe and says it doesn't exist. I tried cancel to overwrite it, but that hasn't worked. I've uninstalled it so I can try again with any other ideas, I did run as admin as well. On Windows 10, and installed it to C drive as C:/RC4. Might try it on the D drive next, where my P3D folders are, but I'm wondering how to get round the end of the installation when it wants FSX.exe, how did you get it to point to P3D v4.exe?
  14. Thank you guys! I forgot to say I went for Sky Force in the end, as it was discounted so for the price it was worth the shot, sounds like it's worth keeping if going for ASN at least 🙂 I shall get ASN soon, I can't get the upgrade price as I got it on Steam originally, but I don't mind that, I should have spent more time looking it up really! I jumped in assuming it was an alternative live weather engine rather than a detail overhaul, but I'll keep it for that purpose. I can't find where I saw the post now, it may have been on Steam, Reddit or some other forum I'm not on, I had a flick round on Google which came to a post that someone who had REX Sky Force for some time had a list of ASN faults like "Want seamless weather injections? REX will not do that unlike ASN" and "REX hasn't let us down, unlike ASN" Thanks for clearing up this for me now I understand the two products, hence I said 'or' in that I assumed REX and ASN were doing the same thing, but I understand the differences now! I shall look forward to using ASN and using REX for the textures as well 🙂 James.
  15. Hello all, When I had FSX I had Active Sky Next and used it when flying with my VA, so it was flying in real time with the actual weather outside, which in the winter provided some interesting foggy approaches on the Lapland extras. Over time my PC lost interest in trying to keep up FPS, it got old and a couple of years later I return with a new machine and P3D v4.5 I was wondering whether to get Active Sky Next, but I read a few opinions saying that REX Sky Force blows ASN out of the water. The UI looks brilliant but takes some time to figure out. I went on a flight from London to Exeter, more less passing over where I live, at 16,000 feet I had scattered clouds and could see the ground...out my window all I could see was clouds, not a peep of sky or any planes overhead. A few settings tweaks I think I have it, not totally convinced but not had a total overcast day here since that test. So the other day I started out at City, loaded REX and set to import flightplan, set up my Q400, 5 minutes later tuned into ATIS, runway 27 in use....really? REX says the wind is pushing from the east, surely not departing with a tailwind, not a low wind speed either. Then QNH was 2992 (1013), well I know somethings wrong here! I set Follow Aircraft on REX, it found my location, but nothing happened. I quit REX and Prepar3D, reloaded REX and import flightplan, and then sim, set up the Q400 again and tuned into ATIS, runway 09 in use, and a QNH reading at 1021, that's better! Set to follow aircraft again. Today I did a flight from Guernsey to City, using REX with the appropriate flightplan loaded, and set to follow aircraft, set off from runway 09 as it would be, and VoxATC later gave me the NEVIL 1C approach. I tuned into City ATIS for the QNH, and it said runway 27 is in use...eh? Should be 09...Altimeter 2992...oh it's defaulted to 1013 again! I was wondering why ATC was sending me east of the airport. So changed the ILS course, checked REX was on, it had an update stamp so it was clearly live, I clicked un-follow aircraft and tried again, nothing happened, oh well so I followed the STAR for Runway 27. I get's over Southend way near the holding loop, then I get the REX weather injected message, and it suddenly updates the weather...This managed to break VoxATC as it got stuck and wouldn't give me any direction, probably City was now back to using runway 09. So checked ATIS again for the QNH which I got, then opened the charts to do an approach over the airfield using the ILS descent chart. I've had a handful of other flights with no problems of it seemingly disconnecting, and still not sure if I have the settings right to have a true real live weather look. Injections aren't smooth, much like ASN IIRC, if there's a bit of haze it suddenly disappears and becomes clear for a few seconds and returns to how it was. Is Active Sky Next still as good as it was? I never really had any problems with it and I believe it's good for ATIS if your ATC program doesn't have ATIS? (I know VoxATC does but looking at replacing it with something as I have AIG traffic installed). Or am I using REX wrong? I assume to get real live weather you load up REX, click Import Flightplan, then it comes up with a map, then load up the sim and that's that, then it injects the weather when you start (as confirmed by the green bar) Any help appreciated! James.
  16. Thank you guys! Only thing is on FSX I struggled with Ultimate Traffic (sorry it was that I had not Real Traffic) as FPS really bought it down, it may have ended up with an OOM I can't remember, I worry if this may happen again, or I suppose otherwise World of AI would be easier...I had about 8GB RAM on the last PC, and a dual core 2.9 AMD, and an ancient GT730 GFX card, so a bit different to what I have now. Also I know I'll be doing a lot of hops, but I suspect a couple of years down the line I might be tempted with a long haul, which I believe is when OOM's are likely to happen? The again maybe a good 777 or 787 will be available for P3D v5 and scenery, or maybe I could just get that for P3D v4... Very difficult decision! I agree is MSFS, I read (on here I think) about someone saying it would be a good 5 years before we have a reasonable collection of add-ons, then there's probably some bugs with it too (only maybe, not saying there will be), I certainly won't be jumping on MSFS on day 1.
  17. Hello all, Coming back to Flight Simming hopefully now I have a PC that's a tad upgraded from my old dual core one, that wouldn't handle any payware add-ons, and have been well out the loop with simming. Even got P3D for the last PC, but it wouldn't even load it. My new PC however takes P3D v4.5 in it's stride, uploaded the ORBX scenery on full max and it's good frames, tried a payware add-on, the temporary free Just Flight Hawk to see how it handles, and it's wonderful. Not got any other detailed add-ons yet, that's when the sliders will need to come down! Now, I had FSX:SE on Steam before, it's still on Steam so I can download and install if I wanted to, and I have ORBX EU England, ORBX Southampton, Aerosoft A320 Pro, Majestic Dash 8, A few UK2000 airports and Aerosoft EHAM, EGGK, EGLL, EIDW and EDDF airports. Oh and REX, GSX (not the latest one), Real Traffic and VoxATC, though I'd be tempted to go back to WoAI, but that is only an FSX feature. So I'd have to buy those again for P3D, not a great deal lost in some ways, but with P3D v5 out, I'm wondering is it worth investing in P3D v4.5, buying the above add-ons (bar Orbx) and then finding out anything new is for v5 and above, so would then need to buy v5 and then buy the add-ons yet again... So only have the default P3D aircraft (and the Hawk until the end of April) so playing with those at the moment until I can decide what to stick with. P3D is running great at the moment, it's a shame that the Hercules is limited that you can't get a RAF one (not that I've found a reskin?) yet can get the full pack for FSX with the RAF Herc. Just need some opinions, any personal opinions on flying in FSX vs P3D but I don't want any 'Ditch FSX for good, stick with Lockheed' posts without any constructive input! :) If you were new to P3D like me, would you invest or stick with FSX for the time being until P3D v5 builds up? Of note previously despite frame issues I never had any OOM with FSX:SE on Steam, but then I didn't do trans-atlantic, just UK to Europe, probably a 4 - 5 hour flight time at most. Current specs are: Windows 10 64 bit Pro Intel i5 9600 6-core 3.7GHz nVidea GTX 1660 at 6GB 16GB of RAM
