  1. VR loop is typically the hottest VRM reported on the motherboard I believe, and 55C is nice and cool there too. Has the beeping remained silent? If so I still reckon you're all good!
  2. Those temps are all great - so sounds good there. Perhaps something to do with the BIOS then that was fixed with an update! Hopefully it'll be all good now and won't return 🙂
  3. It definitely can't keep up with it so to speak, given the 4090 is the fastest GPU on the planet and the 12700 is simply a "really good but not top of the range CPU"! Ive got an 5800x3d which performs a little better than the 12700k in most games, and a 7900xtx which is, I think on average, around 25% slower than your 4090. I'm CPU capped whenever I'm at a busy airport in a payware aircraft, and gpu capped in the air with clouds. My fps tends to drop to around 70 in the busiest scenarios but hovers around 130 in the air at 1440p ultra with render scaling at 120, and the object distance sliders at 150. At 1440p or 4k it'll be a flawless experience with your system. Once you start to get to either current gen or last gen high end CPUs coupled with high end GPUs (4080, 7900xtx, 4090) this sim really is mind blowing. I'm playing on a 32" screen and I regularly have my breath taken away by the beauty and fluidity of it all. I was flying the PMDG 737 yesterday, into a busy KSFO in stormy weather at around 90fps in vatsim. I could play competitive fps at that frame rate if I wanted, it's such a beautiful experience in a sim. You're hardware will do it real justice. Anyway, apologies for the rant. Tl:Dr, yes it'll bottleneck it to some extent, but realistically speaking, it won't matter. Enjoy 🙂
  4. That's the one. You should see it for CPU and gpu (gpu will also show one called hotspot, also useful). Feel free just to screen shot the info if you're not sure which is which!
  5. Very nice system - power hungry too! Could you share your PSU wattage please
  6. Hey - could you list your cpu, and gpu? Then download hwinfo (https://www.hwinfo.com/), run MSFS and wait until the beeps start. Once you've heard a beep, look at hwinfo and report back on the maximum reported temperature of your CPU and GPU. Also what wattage is your PSU? We can then figure out if your temps are above spec for your components. It's also possible they'll be within spec but under clocking to keep temps down. Either way we'll be able to see if you're pushing up against a limit. The fact your PC restarted could be nothing (i.e a software crash), but it could also imply your PSU is not up to the job. It's also possible you missed a power cable when hooking up your CPU. There's an extra slot for some CPUs to be used when overclocking. Hard to say for sure without more info. Let's get those temps back first and we can figure it out from there.
  7. She gave me an anniversary card with a poem written by chatgpt. We've actually managed to strip out all the effort from our relationship 😂
  8. It's a tough one. I'm fairly lucky in that I work with machine learning engineers (my girlfriend actually works in AI too) and have the luxury of people explaining it to me without the hyperbole a lot of the press is firing off. Personally I think it's very important to keep in mind that this is a statistical model. It's really easy to anthropomorphize these LLMs and attribute a level of intelligence/ cognition, when it fundamentally doesn't exist. The models also don't scale linearly with hardware, and Sam Altman has suggested we've hit the apex point of rapid improvements. That said, things are moving so quickly now and there's so much investment that it feels hard to predict further ahead than a few weeks at the moment. The idea of AGI personally frightens me quite a lot. The law of unintended consequences and issues with alignment to human values are both real challenges. But I don't think we're anywhere near that point yet. The idea that Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg have exclusive access to AGIs makes me nervous though. Some of the most narcissistic billionaires on Earth having control of this tech is unnerving for me!
  9. If you're serious, try giving it a context! The more detail the better. For example: "Context: you are a loving husband of x years old with a wife aged x. Your wife enjoys (insert hobbies) and you want to treat her to an incredibly thoughtful mother days present with a budget of a to b. Write a list of your top five ideas, explain your reasoning" It's much better with gpt4 (if you don't have plus that is) but hopefully that kind of prompt will net some good results 🙂 you can also use the reasoning to figure out how it came to it's conclusions, and adapt them as needed!
  10. And finally, I promise no more - adjusted the responses to add an element of uncertainty. It produced the following:
  11. So I thought I'd push it a little further - the following context was given: yielding the following: Pretty impressive for a first draft.
  12. Hey there, I've been spending a lot of time with ChatGPT-4 recently and thought about its potential use as an airtraffic controller in MSFS. I gave it a context as follows: And here is how it played out: So it made a few errors there - for example I was approaching from the East yet it told me to make straigt in for 09, and it also said 'Have a safe landing' which I don't think I've ever heard in the real world. But you can see how with a little more contextual development this thing could produce a highly convincing and interactive ATC for MSFS. Given the API could take voice commands and geo coordinates as an input, I don't think a fully fledged dynamic ATC is unrealistic. Technically you could also set up the system to impersonate a number of AI pilots to speak on behalf of AI traffic - each with different voices. There are of course significant uses for LLMs out there, and this one is rather mundane by comparison - but I thought it was quite cool and thought I'd shared.
  13. For number one, I can only speak for PilotEdge but that happens to me a lot. No point keeping you down low when it just wastes fuel is guess.
  14. Didn't take it as a personal attack. It's perfectly possible to defend what is a perceived albeit slight injustice even if not aimed at oneself. I didn't see any need for the demeaning comments. Difference between a 3090 and 4090 is huge for both triple monitor setups and VR, with a significant increase at 4k too. You mentioned it'll likely only be noticable for those on a gaming monitor - I'd guess most people with a 3090 aren't running a 60hz screen. I don't have a 4090, I can't afford it. I have a 7900xtx which is significantly cheaper. But I'm still not knocking OP for his so called first world problems.
  15. Just went back and double checked everything I've written. Categorically did not say that. Telling someone a question they have is "a result of a first world problem" is condescending. If you're not aware of why that is, I'd suggest not using the statement.
  16. Who said anything about measuring success via financial well being? Wellbeing comes from a variety of sources though I'd certainly argue that financial health is one of them. Not sure of the relevance of what you're saying other than I've heard this argument from many people that are financially reckless. You've repeated that it's a first world problem in an attempt to what, diminish the OPs question or somehow imply they're out of touch? We're all flying pixel airplanes instead of hunting for food on the savannah or trying to fight off an invading country. Every question anyone could ask on this forum is a "first world problem". I think what you really mean by this is "this is not a problem I have, so it's not a problem you should have". Perhaps in an attempt to make yourself feel superior? Yes I'm defensive, I'm often defensive of people when I believe they're being ridiculed or put down by others that are jealous of their position and life choices.
  17. Oh really? Interesting. It's quite annoying as performance is quite a bit better with dx12 for me. Whole system runs cooler too.
  18. I've been a software engineer for long enough to know there's a special place in hell for people that don't report back!
  19. Butter smooth at 30fps? If that's true for you then good for you, but it's objectively not true for most of us. I notice a significant difference when my sim drops from 120fps down to 60fps. At 30fps I'd rather uninstall and wait for better hardware. It's not about watching the scenery. Flight is movement through a fluid, it doesn't take a huge leap of imagination to see why a more fluid perception of motion is nice to have here. Also, why are you calling someone out because their question is a first world problem? Many of us are experienced professionals for whom this is a significant hobby. I suspect a number of us are engineers, lawyers, accountants etc. The cost of a new GPU is negligible because we've been successful in our professional lives. It's far cheaper than a real aircraft, sports car, good set of golf clubs and membership...The list goes on - hell even a good tennis club membership for a year. If this is someone's passion, who are you to diminish their desire for better performance? Stop knocking people for their financial and hobby choice. You can't afford to upgrade? Fair enough. Not our problem.
  20. A lot of people here are guessing, however I recently went from a similar machine to an upgrade. I had a 9900k with 3070, and upgraded first to a 5800x3d, then a few weeks later to a 7900xtx. Your gpu is awesome. At the res you're playing you absolutely don't need to upgrade it. What I can say with confidence is that a cpu upgrade will be an absolute game changer. Grab the new AMD CPU or alternatively a 13600/700 and it'll feel like a new sim. The upgrade from my 3070 to a 7900xtx was significantly less impressive than the 9900k to 5800x3d. My current build in full: 5800x3d, 7900xtx hellhound, 64gb 3200mhz ram and nvme drive tends to sit at around 130fps at ultra (dropping to 70fps at heavy payware airports in payware airliners) at 1440p with 120 percent render scaling. I would be surprised if adding a more modern cpu to your build wouldn't net you something similar. Definitely drop that object detail distance down though. Very diminishing returns on that one.
  21. Hi all, I just finished building a new PC and I'm getting things setup. When loading in at Dublin airport I noticed the following: textureissue hosted at ImgBB — ImgBB (ibb.co) Its like the ground textures are above the airport textures. Its a default airport, no mods installed other than Vatsim and the PMDG 737. Wondering if anyone has seen this? Is it just the way things are, or can I fix it? Okay, figured it out. Turns out its a DX12 issue with AMD cards.
  22. I swapped from a 9700k to a 5800x3d last month and didn't wipe initially. Performance wasn't great and I had some crashes. Wiped and reinstalled from scratch and it's been perfect.
  23. Can anyone explain what that difference is that you feel with a better CPU? It's the feeling of much more fluidity at a higher fps. For example the new x3d chips make the game feel silky smooth vs my 9700k, even at an identical framework. Essentially, 70fps on the x3d feels noticably different to 70fps on the 9700k. Is this to do with the frame pacing I've seen people mentioning?
  24. Anything above 50fps is fine by me in the heaviest airports. No doubt both our cpus manage that!
