About Me

About Me

  1. Hello simmers, Has anybody been able to make/acquire winglet textures for the Southwest Airlines 737-700 by Project Opensky? I recently flew Southwest, KAUS (Austin-Bergstrom Intl)-KDEN (Denver Intl)-KMSP (Minneapolis-St. Paul Intl), and I was lucky enough to get a window seat right on the wing. I took some great pictures, and I decided to recreate this flight on my FS2004/FS9. I already had wing views installed, and as I was taking off from Austin-Bergstrom, I looked out my window, and realized that my winglets were just generic blue, red, and gold. THIS MADE ME VERY ANGRY!!! Could somebody please tell me where I could find winglet textures for the Project OpenSky Boeing 737-700 for Southwest Airlines? I have been going kinda crazy all day trying to find them!!! Thank You!!
  2. Hi all, I'm trying to remove all but one cloud texture per coverage factor (e.g. for FEW/SCT/BKN/OVC). What would be the correct approach to fullfil this? Background is, that enabling clouds over distributed (but not directly interlinked, not using a master slave setup) P3D clients gives me sometimes correctly overlapping cloud textures, but sometimes they don't fit at all. Regards, DeviSim
  3. Hello, I'm returning to FSX after a while and I've rediscovered an annoying issue that appears frequently when flying airliners and locating in very detailed airports: - textures start missing, sometimes in AI airliners, sometimes in my external airframe views, sometimes in virtual cockpit, sometimes in detailed airports buildings; - sometimes it happens quite soon (before taxiing), sometimes after landing I have an enough powerful system, so my specs should not be an issue, although my gfx settings are "high" (scenery is almost to max, save for autogen=dense) I fly with directX9 I'm sorry if I missed it: I did not find any resourceful explanation searching this forum thanks for any suggestion
  4. Could someone be so kind as to point me in the proper direction? I want to learn how to take the livery textures, as posted in the forums, and make executable files, as provided by PMDG. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi guys. I have been having this problem lately especially when i load up high density addon sceneries such Aerosoft or Orbx. Aircrafts that i use are the common payware ones like PMDG, IFLY, Captain Sim and Quality Wings. So the scenario is that after loading is completed, the VC textures becomes all black. Sometimes it loads ok but when i changed views i.e VC to locked spot to VC again - the VC textures becomes black and then it will stay that way even when i load up default sceneries. I have minimized the scenery sliders thinking its a memory issue but its still happening. I used to have OOM issues big time but since i have installed the 3gb fix, its all gone but then this issue with the black textures came up. My interest in FSX has dwindled because of the OOM issues but it has now rekindled because of the 3gb fix. But i wonder if thats the cause of the black VC textures. Below i have included my pc specs (yes i know, its a dinosaur..Hahaha) my boot.ini where i put my 3gb fix and my FSX cfg file. Hope you guys can help. Thanks. My PC specs are: AMD Athlon II X2 245 Processor 2.90 GHz, 3.28 GB of Ram NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT with 1024 VRam Windows XP Professional SP3 32Bit My boot.ini looks like this: [boot loader] timeout=3 6. I get this rather blurry wing texture when looking out of the VC. Other planes and textures look sharp and I didn't change any texture resolution in FSX itself. So I assume that the maroon texture set is somehow blurred in that section. Can anybody confirm? Edited. Pictures are from 'blue'
  7. All, I'll take the plunge and open up the discussion around the dreaded topic of blurry textures. Given the move to put more power on the video card and leverage multi-cores, Prepar3D handling loading textures faster without blurry textures? Tim
  8. Hi, I just downloaded the new "Sabach Cloud & Environment" freeware add-on. It replaces default clouds and sky textures. I think it improves significantly the look of the weather, especially clouds. There's no impact on FPS, on the contrary it seem to be even a little better. You can donwload it here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=19462 A couple of screenshots so you can see what to expect:
  9. Hello all, this is my first post. I hope im not breaking any rules by posting this. I am getting lots of texture glitches lately and I have no idea what could be causing them. I run FSX in DX10 mode because I get a lot more frames. The thing is I was never seeing this before. its just recent. I think I may have done some fsx.cfg tweaks. I have tried everything. I even generated the default fsx.cfg as well and nothing. I have done several troubleshoots like update alll my drivers, defrag, OC settings, Texture reload/settings, frame limiters, graphic options and many more other things. A few minutes into my flight or sometimes right away I get a whole bunch of spikes and noise. It flickers everywhere. Sometimes it could actually look scary lol. I would love to solve this. I have seen picutres online where ppl have gotten the same glitch/bug but I cant fix mine. Help me avsim forums! 10. Hello guys, I'm presenting here a little addon I made for FSX. It's a set of sky textures designed to take advantadge of some ENB features. The sky textures were made in parallel with ENB settings -- that I included in the package -- to achieve the best visual result. You can use them without ENB, in a pure FSX, or while using something like SweetFX, but the results will be a bit different from the intended. Here are some screenshots, with and without ENB: With ENB Daytime At night (it will be darker than vanilla FSX, but lights will stay there) Sunrise Sunset Without ENB Sunrise Sunset Post-sunset Ok, I think this gives you an idea. You can download it here: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxmisc&DLID=179660 That's all, hope you like it! Use this topic to discuss about this mod. This topic is replacing the one that was in the screenshots forum. Regards,
  11. So I got into the old trick of converting textures and shrinking them down, especially for the Ultimate Traffic 2 planes. When the utility was done adding mipmaps and alphas to all the planes I thought I'd experiment and be clever at a payware airport; Flightbeam's KSFO. Now before I did anything TOO stupid, I backed up all the textures in the KSFO folder and then just to test things out I shrunk some of the textures down to 512x512 and re-mipmapped them and then fired up FSX. It looked like utter crap so I restored the backup of the textures but now... those textures that I edited.. are STILL loading on the airport! I even did re-install of of KSFO (without uninstalling it) and my crappy texture edits are STILL there. @_@ I assume this is FSX storing the textures in a cache and refusing to load the restored textures just to torture me further. Where is it hiding it my crappy texture edits that I have gotten rid of the KSFO texture folder? How can I restore the textures? My quest to get more than 22 FPS in the NGX while UT2 is running at FB KSFO is going to drive me insane!
  12. Dear All, I have decided to post here so you are aware of the actions by a group called UTT (United Traffic Team) which is a group which releases AI models as freeware, but also sell the sources of their models for profit. http://unitedtrafficteam.com/ Throughout my time in the FS freeware community as a painter, I have (sadly) witnessed countless attempts by people breaching copyrights (stealing other's works), selling freeware as their own product on websites and so forth - these are nothing new but what I have seen recently, in my opinion, is extremely disturbing and disappointing. I was informed that this group had reverse-engineered freeware models, subsequently modified them and released as their own work (AI and source models) (without permission or crediting the original authors). They are selling these source models for profit. The following links are dedicated to covering this matter: http://www.alpha-india.net/forums/index.php?topic=17637.0 http://talk.pafs.wf/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2837&p=25014#p25014 While I cannot personally vouch for the claims regarding the B737-200 and B747-800 AI models - I know for certain that they have stolen Hiroshi Igami's CRJ900/1000 models (which are available in the AVSIM library). Based on Hiroshi's analysis, the fuselage wireframes are nearly an exact match besides some modification work (to reduce the polygons). Below is the evidence: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10200899380910987.1073741880.1359007212&type=1&l=6cb1801994 During the development phase of the original model, it was known there were a couple of deficient areas of the model which was not fixed before release. Unsurprisingly the UTT model also have the same errors. Here is their store where they sell the model source (which is essentially a modification of Hiroshi's work without permission): http://unitedtrafficteam.com/index.php/store1/3d-models-source/item/bombardier-crj-1000-3ds-max-source-model I also became aware that they have copied a number of my textures from the CRJ900/1000 in the source model which they are selling. When confronted a spokesperson from their group claimed they did not steal other's work and were adamant that it was their original work. They then admitted on facebook to have 'simply borrowed' 5% of Hiroshi's model. The takehome message with this is - be careful of these people and it may be worth investigating if you suspect your work has been stolen. Note to moderators: maybe this should be listed on the wall of shame...
  14. Hello everyone, In order not to "pollute" the post on the HD textures, I open it that is specific to these new textures. So, here's my latest creation for FS2004 Finding nothing more to cope with behemoths like Orbx FSX, I'm, a little frustrated, re-interested in FS2004. A guy (jon_aus) contacted me and told me he had tried my ground textures for FSX into FS2004 and the result was not too bad. I did some tests and then finally converted this work by adding and creating new textures specially developed for FS2004. Admittedly, it remains with textures 4 m/pix, but curiously, it seems they are more accurate. From there I got the idea of "emergence" This way one can "pompous" finally is not so unwarranted when we read the definition of emergence on Wiki french: "Emergence is a concept that occurs when simple systems show, through their interactions and their evolution, another level of complexity that is difficult to predict or describe by the analysis of these systems in isolation." And so they are in the same line as the project "forests, mountains and intermediate zones for FSX" these textures adapted and developed for FS2004 Few hours on Avsim and already more than 300 downloads: who said FS2004 not interest anyone? 15. Well, by principle, this batch script is nothing new as batch scripts calling Imagetool to convert texture files have been around since FS9. This one, is a bit more than "just" a conversion script though. Features: - A script-based user-interface - Converts .bmp to DXT5 .dds files (with or without mip-maps)* - Supports backup and backup restore operations - Works with *.bmp files only, i.e. other files are not backed up to save disk space - Can convert large (e.g. all AI aircraft) and small (e.g. a single aircraft) folders - As Imagetool tends to skip converting some files in large folders, the script also checks for unconverted files - Supports blacklisting, i.e. for panel bitmaps or similar *Well, a conversion to DXT5 .dds is nothing new, but it could help saving the odd GPU cycle as the GPU won't have to flip each texture around while rendering it. Texture rendering in DX10 mode might also benefit. Usage: 1. Unzip to a place with enough disk space available** 2. Run Converter.bat ** The backup folders will be created in the folder Convert.bat is located!! Notes: 1.) I do not intend to destroy your FSX installation. I've tested this tool in a contained environment as well as on my own FSX installation and it left everything intact! 2.) CREATE A BACKUP BEFORE DOING ANY(!) CONVERSION WORK 3.) Make sure to read any instructions and notes on-screen when using this tool! I didn't add them for nothing! 4.) I've added a safeguard when entering folder paths, i.e. if the specified folder does not exist, you will be thrown back to the main menu. So it's harder to mess up by entering the wrong path to a folder. 5.) Creating or restoring backups and converting textures can take a very long time. On a SSD, converting my 11 GB AI aircraft folder took over an hour 6.) Backups can be amended in case you're adding new files to your FSX installation at one point 7.) Conversion is an iterative process. You will need to do more than one pass in large folders. 8.) DO NOT rename or delete the "ZZZ_Helper" folder! You *will* break this script! 9.) The conversion process also fixes the "Missing Alpha" issue Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/66vaa7226k76g6b/DDSConverter.zip Any fearless volunteers?
  16. Greetings! I have been having problems with models developed by Project OpenSky. The issue is that when I select the plane and start flying, there are no exterior textures on the plane, despite they are displayed correctly in the main menu. There are no problems with interior/VC textures or sound. This occurs with all POSKY planes I have downloaded (747-4, 777-2, 737-9). I have checked the aircraft.cfg and texture folders and it is all normal. What can I do. Here are some pictures for better understanding: http://i.imgur.com/aQljHPg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/5UvTWQQ.jpg
  17. Hey guys. I need some expert opinion. I want to upgrade my gfx card from a 9500gt to either a radeon 7750 or radeon 7770. I want to know how they will run on fsx with my pmdg 737 (ie if textures would load immediately etc). The 7750 is much cheaper and if i select that i will order it immediately. However if i choose the 7770 i would have to wait till june/july. Which should i get and are there vast diffrences? Btw system is Phenom ii x6 1045t 4gb ram 1333 ddr3 Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
  18. Hi guys! I'm not exactly new, mostly been a lurker here and there researching lots, but by no means a new Flight-Sim'er. Big time commercial/large jet enthusiast, but no professional at all. But I seek all of you for your assistance! After lots of reading/research and trial and error, I have my FSX running beautifully, except for one minor issue. I have recorded a quick video of what I am experiencing on my YouTube. Basically, only at a couple of airports so far, I get this texture flicking nonsense and have no idea how to cure it. VID: https://youtu.be/lYbg1uro3sk (Direct Link to my youtube account) Here's my stats run-down: Version: FSX Deluxe Ed. SP2 DirectX10 P - Enabled - My PC runs FSX so much better in DX10 over DX9, so I am not really inclined to switch back. The issue isn't present to the same extent in DX10--Instead of flickering I get a huge framerate drop in DX9 in the same view position Graphics - pretty much maxed Add-ons relevant to issue: Ground Environment X FSX Modified Terrain CFG - via FlyAwaySimulation FSX2xWater - via FlyAwaySimulation FSX Ground Textures - via FlyAwaySimulation Roads v1.1 - ^same as above TreeX USA Ground Textures Upgrade - via FAS too Steve Parson's Shader Fix for DX10 Custom Built PC: Intel Core i7 4790k Devil's Canyon ASUS Maximus VII Motherboard G.Skill 16GBx4 RAM DDR3 MSI NVIDIA GTX670 4GB x2 running in SLI on latest drivers, clean install WD VelociRaptor HD 10k RPM I know the issue here is not my PC in hardware--it is a beast and like I said I have FSX nearly running perfect. But I experience this graphic issue. In the same exact camera POV in DX9, I get a huge framerate drop so something's wrong on both ends. In DX10, I get this weird anomaly. This is specifically at KEWR (Newark International Airport) and no matter where I am, at the gate or on the runway or in the region, I will get this. I also noticed it happens at Japan's Haneda International in Tokyo. Here's where it doesn't happen and all is well: I have been to KSLC Salt Lake City International, Seattle-Taco, KLAX, Heathrow, and Domodevovo in Moscow. It doesn't happen there. Can anyone help me here? I'm on my freshest install of FSX yet with all the processes clean and tweaked using that famous FSX Bible by NickN. And it still happened before all the tweaks and add-ons, and even on a previous install (that said, I tried reinstalling several times, clean and still get the issue). Any thing else for me to add please let me know. Trying to be as specific and detailed as possible since I've discovered many threads about "flickering" and Texture and graphics issues. I've sorted through them all and they all say that Steve Parson's DX10 Shader Fix is the solution. It's been added and still get it. Help! lol Thanks in advance!!!
  19. Looking up the Eisacktal valley along the Eastern Rhaetian Alps - Dolomites boundary from just east of Bolzano, Italy. (Please note the lens flare was added after the screenshots were taken, and not rendered in FSX) I wish FSX had an accurate Rayleigh scattering rendering like the blue haze in X-Plane which would make these kind of screenshots so much more realistic. I also wish FSX had a dynamic sun lens flare depiction so that its brighter and more intense during midday and smaller and softer during sunrise/sunset.

  21. Hello everyone! After testing FS9 Evo extensively for the past week I thought it's time for a mini review. First of all, I'd like to thank Sascha for being extremely helpful and for offering his excellent work as a donationware. Before Evo I had been using GEPro, a very good product when it first came out eight years ago. For the past year I had been searching for a replacement for it as I thought it had started showing its age. Here comes FS9 Evo. At first I was sceptical (and, to be honest, a tad disappointed with the thought that there's not much potential left in the FS9 engine), many have promised the "ultimate FS addon" over the years only to disappoint us simmers. Me being me, however, always hopeful I thought I'd try it out, I always keep a backup of my FS installation anyway. Let's see how that turned out... Departing LGBL, direction North in my trusty Skylane RG! Over the city of Volos Turning towards Larisa Let's follow the highway to Katerini Beautiful fields! Some sightseeing over the city of Katerini before we head North to tackle the busy TMA of Makedonia Airport in Thessaloniki (LGTS) Phew! The adrenaline kicked in but we got in and out of the TMA of LGTS without issues! The island of Thasos is in the background. We've left the town of Komotini behind us, let's do some sightseeing over river Evros before we land at Alexandroupoli (LGAL). It seems the sightseeing will have to wait for another time as we are flying VFR! At least we are very close to the airport, let's join the circuit! In conclusion, thank you Sascha for bringing this whole new world to FS2004! VFR flying is now much more realistic and flying jets you can finally recognize the places you are flying over! If you are still thinking whether FS9 Evo's worth it or not let me tell you this; no matter what you donate it's worth ten times more! Other add-ons used for the screenshots in this review: HSP Base scenery + HSP Mesh REX2004 for the sky, the sun, most water textures and the clouds Carenado Cessna C182RG II HSP LGAL ActiveSky 6.5 and of course the IVAO network Cheers, Achilleas

Posted 26 June 2016 - 09:53 PM Hello, I am currently having a problem with the bad textures of ai traffic on v pilot. I am using p3d v3.2 and v pilot beta version because the standard one did not make the models. I have two questions. Sometimes models like the 737 look amazing, then models like the aurbus look aweful. How can I fix that. And I am using MyTraffic6, but am not sure if it is connected to vatsim. All I see for model matching is WOA then 6 models identified. They give me the models just in bad textures. And one more question. On the models there are little circles of light, 1 on top and two on the bottom. I think they might be the landing and turnoff lights. Is there any way to check/fix these problems Thanks, Dillon L Also I forgot to mention, the details does not show flaps, spoilers, or reversers. 0 Selective Quote Quote
