  1. After 2 flights on my journey to Chunilna : https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/638627-going-north-above-alaska-1/ https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/638788-going-north-above-alaska-2/ I flew from Childs Glacier Airstrip (6AK4) to Valdez (PAVD), a short 40mn flight. You can click on the map below to see the flight trace, and geolocalized screenshots : A few minutes after takeoff, over the Copper River Some interesting landscape in the Chugach Mountains, in the Wortmanns valley The weather deteriorated considerably as I entered the Lowe River Valley From this point I had to fly under 800 ft to see the ground I landed safely in Valdez, with a ground speed of approximatively 25 kts (with 10 kts wind blowing from the front). I could have joined the famous STOL competition !
  2. Was walking past the paint hangar last evening and couldn't believe what they were spraying in the booth! Think this one may make a few Alaska fans happy. 😉
  3. I'm really impressed with how FS Global Real Weather depicts fog, mist and low visibility in general when I'm flying under those conditions in P3Dv4 or X-Plane 11. Here is a dawn arrival into Alaska’s Talkeetna Airport (PATK) with Carenado’s PHENOMenal Phenom 300 using PILOT’S FS Global Real Weather (FSGRW).
  4. 15 years ago today, as luck would have it...I finished and uploaded my 2nd repaint to Avsim (The 1st one lost to the hack of the site years ago, but still available elsewhere). It's hard to believe I've been painting this long...I still remember my 1st paint taking about 3 months to finish! It was an Alaska MD80 for FS2002 (the latest and greatest sim at the time). Maybe I should paint Alaska on this slightly updated version of the MD as a tribute to my career as a painter? :)

  7. This is my first video on FSX. It is a Bush Flying. I chose to start in Alaska because of the tradition of this type of flight there. I took off from Alsek River lodge, flying by the river and til the glacier, climbing to the top of the mountain and starting a dip into the valley. After a high scenic flight, I followed the Tanis River and landed at Tanis Mesa. 8. No airfield, no runway. Only the sunset and the sea. This short flight start at Bering Glacier airfield, following the shore to the end of Kaiak Island to reach Pinnacle Rock. After several passes through the obelisk, I finished with a extreme landing on the stony beach. 9. There aren't many really good business jets available for the P3Dv4 platform, thankfully Flysimware decided to develop the Dassault Falcon 50, which is now in late Beta and available for purchase. I decided to take the Falcon 50 on a short trip into Northern Alaska, and ended up flying a bad weather approach in PATK. FS Global Real Weather did a great job at providing accurate and immersive weather, from winds aloft right down to the low visibility approach. I cannot recommend this fine aircraft enough! Flysimware have delivered a really solid aircraft with in-depth system functionality, and this, coupled with an option to add the Reality XP GTN 750 as an integral part of the VC, makes this one of the most interesting business jets to date. The Falcon 50 exterior is extremely detailed, as you can see in the screenshots below. The interior too is very well done, the instruments are crisp with an air of authenticity. Yes, this Falcon 50 really is that good! I hope you enjoy the screenshots! Now if only I can convince the Flysimware developer to add winglets. 😉 Cheers, Jerome
  10. Let it load in 1080p then grab a coffee or a beer, sit back and relax.........enjoy Alaska ;)[VID] [/VID]
  11. Just the one shot taking off in the Citation with PILOT'S FS Global Real Weather doing a great job in depicting the low clouds with very interesting lighting. It's definitely a great advantage having a weather engine that works with both P3Dv4 and XP11!
  12. Hi All, Been a long while since I painted an aircraft but got the bug to paint up something for the Q400 and what started as "just 1" ended up with 10 paints. All the logos were converted to vector images in Illustrator and brought into Photoshop and the colors are the actual CMYK values found on many of the University's websites. A lot of information gathering went into this "little" project :-) Here's all the tails I painted up and 9 of official liveries have been packaged up and uploaded to Avsim with 1 being left out so fingers crossed, it should be in the library tomorrow-ish given it's a holiday. Enjoy! This one was a personal project and not included in the upload. If anyone is interested I'd be more than happy to share it!
  13. Greetings, I'm evaluating Pilot2ATC and generally am impressed by it, but I'm having problems with the approach functionality. As background, I live in Alaska and do a majority of my virtual flying in the state as well. I realize this is probably a different sort of instrument environment than the typical Pilot2ATC use case. Before testing, I updated the nav data in Pilot2ATC to Navigraph AIRAC cycle 1802 using the Navigraph FMS Data Manager. For my first flight, I tried an IFR trip from Fairbanks (PAFA) to Nome (PAOM). For this flight, I manually added a SID but no approach. I did check "ATC Assigns Approaches" in the configuration. However, ATC didn't assign an approach or issue a descent clearance as I reached the end of the flight plan. I next tried creating a simple flight plan along V440 from Nome to Unalakleet (PAUN) and manually adding an approach. I am able to enter the routing via the airway. But when I press the APPR button to add an approach, the approach panel never appears. Instead, I just get a "spinning" mouse pointer. This continues even if I wait for an extended period. I see similar behavior for other smaller airports in Alaska even though each I have tried has multiple instrument approaches. Flight plans in other areas seem to work correctly. For example, I entered a flight plan from Austin, TX to Dallas (KDFW) and was able to bring up the approach panel and add an approach normally. I'm also able to select approaches for major Alaska airports such as PANC (Anchorage), PAFA, and PAJN (Juneau), as well as some small GA airports in the lower 48. It seems there is something particular about smaller Alaskan airports which causes problems. Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance! Ryan Biggs
